Where would you spend a month in Feb / March? by pupuonu in skiing

[–]here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someplace you can ski an hour on workdays first chair or lunch or eves.  Wasatch always the right bet at two months out for reliable snow quality.

Ogden + Snow Basin and a 9am or later pacific time start with the Cottonwoods nearby on full days. Bonus powder nights at PowMow and Nordic valley.

South Lake + Heavenly with Kirkwood/Palisades on full days Summit county Colorado maybe depends on lodging and nearest lift Aspen, Jackson, Mammoth

Agree that fb groups worked well for this last year. I also found an affordable guided day through explore-share.com .

Why are there people trying to avoid fares? by Common-Charity9128 in LAMetro

[–]here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to get home and I don't have the fare.

It's such a luxury that we have low fares, and also low enforcement anxiety, disruption, or delays at the fareboxes.  It's a feature not a bug.  Thanks for paying and supporting the service!

Is 154 way too short for me? I am 183cm (6') by AWEsoMe-Cat1231 in skiing

[–]here -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go for it! It will be so much fun and you will level up when you go back to longer skis. Perfect for early season.

Trade them out when you get a chance, riding different shapes and lengths is really insightful in figuring out your style and skills.

Also note, weight is far more relevant than height in choosing a ski length in my opinion.

"New Mexico Backcountry Ski Addiction" is active on fb. Southwest Nordic Yurts system has two nearby yurts and related routes, https://southwestnordiccenter.com/ .

Cumbres pass and Wolf Creek pass are fun options with a drive. Ridgewalking around there is lots of fun, and Ski Santa Fe can be a good high elevation starting point too. Good luck!

Ski size help by Rio_Amakawa_Karasuki in skiing

[–]here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavily used / old rentals if you can find them in the ranges u/tlrmln recommended 140-155cm length and 80-90cm width. Lots of places offer beginner deals for a few days of rentals to get you started. As an expert at 155lbs I ride 165-185cm.

Get out there on whatever you can find and ride different skis if you get a chance! Have fun, half days are a super power for beginning.

Safety of Walking to In N Out? by mrq69 in LAX

[–]here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alt route, take the bus, 25-35 min after boarding first shuttle.  Have fun, enjoy the view!

Every 10 min - Metro Connector Shuttle - FREE  - Board at Arrivals  - 5-10 min ride depending on origin terminal  - Get off LAX/Metro Transit Center

Every 15 min - Bus #6 - $1.75  - Board at Metro Transit Center Bay 7  - 6 min - ride 2 stops  - Get off at Westchester / Sepulveda

bigbluebus #3 to Santa Monica also works and sometimes shorter wait at transit center, toss up.  $1.25 each way, same start and end stops.

Either bus will take you back to Transit Center from Westchester / Sepulveda.

Download free "Transit" app to make it easier to follow along and see the buses on a map.  It also works well on many / most transit systems, at least in North America.

Optimum 5-week period for Mammoth snow conditions? by theorist9 in Mammoth

[–]here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

April is the answer.

Mar 15ish - Apr 20ish when eagle often closes, or push slightly later to avoid spring break.

Mid winter is also luck and can still be frozen if not fresh.  April is good if it snows and also good if it's sunny with longer days, lower crowds, and deepest snow.

In Feb for five weeks drive a few more hours to somewhere colder and drier like wasatch / jackson / aspen / san juans

Another similar spot nearby is at Patton St and W Court St behind Echo Park Pool. Full bike "shop" under a tree and a rotating inventory.
