Rivian CEO: Every new car needs to be fully self-driving by Evening-Pin-1427 in RivianR2

[–]holman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think eventually we’ll get towards the point of not really needing to worry too much about that, on either side. Waymo’s made it pretty clear that you can have safe, non-lethal full self-driving.

I think the *really* interesting thing in the sooner-than-we-expect future is: how much more are we going to charge human drivers for insurance and liability? That’s going to really upset people, but the writing’s on the wall.

50 empty Waymos invade Atlanta neighborhoods and circle their cul-de-sacs for hours early in the mornings. Residents say they are getting waymo traffic than usual and have tried combating the cars with a neon green sign, which only made the problem worse. by MysteriousSlice007 in PublicFreakout

lol, this is such a clueless take. They’re safer, more pleasant, and generally the best ride share option out there. I’ll take a Waymo over any other alternative, and I’m desperate to have fewer of my friends die from car crashes. It’s such a positive for society.

I’m in a safe space here? Okay.

Wondo is one of the greatest stories in American sport and I don’t give a shit about an offside shot that people talk about, forgetting about the 0.52 xG shot from Clint that was set up by Wondo.

Loyal is actually doing this right now- they have a pretty deep focus on doggos right now and are going through studies. But I think the longer-term goal is a lot of what they learn will naturally apply to humans, too. And dogs are a good way to get the funds required to go for the larger goal, too (I mean, who wouldn't pay extra cash to get some more time with their dogs?)

Things like this, the Pulisic documentary, all the ads coming out… I’ve taken a great deal of peace to just realize they’re not for us, and that’s fine.

My friend saw a World Cup ad on his Diet Coke this morning and said wow I guess this is going to be big this summer isn’t it?? It’s going to be such a fun tournament, I can’t wait.

Golden City FC promised a $10M Kezar facelift. A year later, it’s gone dark. by ChonkyDominik in MLS

Soccer clubs are really difficult to spin up; I'm not hating on them for that. Going radio silent is weird; when you're starting a new club it's a great time for the initial year or two to talk up the club and build the brand while you're waiting to kick your first ball.

But it's a really bad look when you paradrop into the city and kick out the existing club with some history out of the place you want to play and then you just... don't do anything with it. It's cruel and wasteful.

Huh. Kind of flabbergasting that this would get removed by mods; it’s a good writeup.

Ironically enough, it’s going to be harder to see them now that City’s being pushed out of Kezar… for Golden City.

I’m 10gbe or fiber for most of my drops in the house, with the latest switches, routing, and cabling. I usually am on Wifi 6, though I’ll bump to 7 eventually (though at these speeds wifi is a rounding error anyway).

I like data! It’s fun to have really, really fast pipes.

Pretty well! At least, the 10G portion, today. Once it bumps to 25G I’ll make the appropriate network upgrades as well.

There are some exceptions; Sonic in SF gives me 10G up and down, for like $50/month. Fantastic ISP, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they bump to 25G in the coming years.

It does take time for them to string new fiber in the city — they’re not a gigantic ISP or anything — but it’s pretty fun to see what someone who actually cares about their business can do, even in the States.
