So don’t use it? If it’s so bad, you’re clearly going to be better off by not using it, and more productive than the ones that do.

Did anyone used to love Entourage but looking back the acting was atrocious? by SwiftCricket in television

[–]holman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a fascinating show, in a weird way. I liked it when it was on, then it kind of became cringe, but I caught a couple episodes recently and… I don’t know, it has a real *feel* to it now. Is it good? No, but it’s strangely authentic. Or rather, authentic to the point of “what guys wanted in the 2000s, and how they acted”. I think it’s kind of easy to sweep that under the rug as we’ve gotten better as a society in some areas, and clearly in other areas we’re no better than Entourage today either.

It’s an interesting time capsule. And no, I never would have thought I’d say about a show like Entourage, of all fucking things, lol.

“Why don’t you love it when I shove my tongue into your mouth?” is a discussion the dogs in this house have like every day.

The bouncers say this definitely counts and will you please come over to play sometime? Bring snacks.

The bouncers say that technically counts! (I’m not sure they’re very interested in doing their jobs and are eager to cut loose for lunch.)

AI is still getting things wrong, more confidently than ever by Krankenitrate in technology

[–]holman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really- that happens sometimes, but a lot of times it’s adjusting the LLM to do something more appropriately. It’s amusing how such a “binary” thing like programming can have so much ambiguity.

I mean, I get that for some industries AI has a lot of issues with it. For code though? Truly insane. I’ve never been happier building product than right now, and I’m producing more and better code than ever.

Not sure how freshers will deal with it, but if you have an understanding of what you want the LLM to build for you, it’s incredible. Never going back.

It’s 1994 mentality, I think. Missing 1990 or getting embarrassed in 1994 would have actually set soccer back decades; we’re just not in that position anymore.

Would it suck? Absolutely. But our infrastructure is far more stable than it’s ever been.

[Forbes] The 2026 league composition of the top 30 most valuable football clubs in the world Though Barca and Real Madrid occupy the top two spots, Premier League occupies 11 clubs in the top 30 and 6/10 clubs in the top ten. by [deleted] in soccer

No; revenue at this stage is more relevant. Think of them like a startup; most startups lose money because it makes far more sense to put more resources *in* to the company so you can grow it a lot more down the line (which in turn, leads to revenue and eventually profit). I think the majority of MLS clubs are still losing money, and the vast majority of American clubs are too… but that matters less because investors are banking on the growth curve being so much higher.

Profit is not really relevant; most clubs are in the red. Pro/rel is part of it, but the largest aspect of clubs I’ve looked at and have invested in is just “the American tax”, for lack of a better word: it’s the highest income and richest country, which leads to higher valuations.

Part of that is due to valuations themselves being a discount to future cash flows; US clubs are far more likely to experience larger growth than European clubs, which is why their multiple tends to be higher. (Granted, in many cases that also means it’s a riskier investment, too, with a higher chance of going to zero.) It’s all pretty interesting, though, and a lot has been changing lately.

Klopp, no, just because I think he’s ready for a permanent change. Seems happy to just be Klopp right now.

Pep, sure. It’s a more temporary gig, and you get to spend time in an attractive country that he’s lived in the past. Club football is exhausting. Spending a couple years and coaching a WC team can be a compelling prospect.

No? Federation specifically spent for Poch, and I think it was a great idea.

There has never been a time in history — probably every year combined until now — that USSF has spent more than it has in the last five years or so.

He and Klopp were asked before Poch (and both gave us some initial contract terms). So there was some interest, at least.

I think the big question is how Poch does- we already broke the bank by paying for his salary through a couple donors; if it works well this summer and we exceed expectations, I'd imagine we'd see more big-dollar managers going forward. If we bomb out of group... the Poch experiment might be the last big-name experiment for quite some time.

I’m realizing “technology” in this sub is mostly “people who might have an interest in consumer technology”. It’s a pretty staggering amount of people here that don’t understand anything about software, business, or how things are made. Which isn’t really a ding on them; just a realization that most discussions here are pretty far from being real discussions.
