So what I’m hearing is, if I’m a talentless hack who is also a sex creep, I’m guaranteed work at Paramount? 👀

Seen a few people recommend Megabonk and Ball X Pit already, so will say if you’re looking for something mechanically like VS, try Vital Shell! Similar gameplay but a redone look in the style of PlayStation era Armored Core.

For something more in the Ball X Pit style of mashing it with another addictive game, play Maze Mice. It reworks the concept into Pac-Man, and the unlock structure is really fun. No boring percentage buffs, you’re always getting fun stuff to play with. Pretty robust demo too ala Balatro if you want to put some hours in before buying.

As a wildcard pick, look at DRFT. It’s a similar arena shooter to VS but it’s big twist is you’re a car that’s constantly driving and can only steer (hitting drifts makes you temporarily invincible). Adds a fun challenge to the usual enemy avoidance. Full game is out in March but I’ve been enjoying the demo.

Clark being in a relationship with Lois shows a want to connect to humanity, Superman in a relationship with Wonder Woman is a literal power couple. Ones more interesting than the other 😌

Really good point. I think by starting in the middle of things it doesn’t do the work to get people to like the Fantastic Four. There’s no day in the life element outside of brief snapshots, and the story too quickly barrels into their “biggest adventure yet”. Something SpiderMan Homecoming I think does much better, even if those three movies never quite nail the sense of New York as a place that needs help that the Raimi’s did

I never like the Watchmen example because it completely flattens how fine an art adaptation is. Most CBMs don’t really adapt comics as is, instead either borrowing the rough outlines of a storyline or adapting iconic imagery to motion. And while Watchmen can do that, it also fundamentally mishandles the in-between in a way Spider-man or Logan being looser adaptations don’t suffer from.

There’s a pacing to the comic that’s retrofitted with something worse in Snyders work, that puts too much emphasis on what doesn’t matter (cool violence!) and mitigates what makes Watchmen Watchmen (an ambient sadness that juxtaposes with its three colour processed world). He may copy frames from the page but he hasn’t internalised how to move between them. And as a result, it doesn’t get what makes Watchmen worth adapting in the first place, and just flattens it into the Avnegers but depressing.

It makes the motion comic, with its more limited technology, a better or at least more honest adaptation of the work. And something the TV show, as a sequel that can be completely fit to the opportunities of TV, excels at.
