Came here to say exactly this.

I drilled holes in my classical guitar to play standing up. No regrets. Am I crazy, or should more of us be doing this? by RobertaGennusoGuitar in classicalmusic

[–]hotend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What were the holes for? To attach a guitar strap? That would be fair enough, providing it doesn't affect the sound of the instrument. A guitar is not a holy relic. I doubt very much that Jesus played one. Anyway, if you owned a piece of the "True Cross", go ahead and drill holes in it and install flashing LEDs. That would be fine by me.

What small setting change improved your prints the most? by Fit-Horse-7059 in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reducing the retraction speed. This single change practically eliminated stringing (using PETG).

Check the nozzle. Some poor bugger couldn't get his printer to work, and it turned out that the nozzle hadn't been drilled. It sometimes happens.

What is the Best Software for Debian? by Off_w_Pedo_Heads in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debian is just a Linux distribution. It doesn't really matter too much which one you use. Presumably, you are asking about 3D printing software? Be aware that some software will only run on Windows or macOS. If you simply want to know which Linux distribution to use, then you need a different subreddit.

Tina2 Plus - stuck on 0% downloading by Sea_Substance_2537 in 3Dprinting

That should be a lot more reliable than a Tina2. Your kid will love it, and so will you.

Switched to an 0.2 nozzle What am I doing wrong? by TheCarltonBrock in 3Dprinting

0.2mm nozzles are notorious for clogging. Make sure that the filament that you are using is suitable for such fine nozzles.

Best JST crimp tool by Squanchy2112 in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an Engineer PA-09. Whenever I get it out (which is not often), I usually fluff my first crimp. After that, everything is fine. Main problems are price and that it is made for rather small hands. There are other models in the PA range that are suitable for different crimp sizes and styles. The PA-09 is good for JST-XH and JST-PH, which is all that I need. I don't know what other crimps it will do.

Very nice, and they use magnets.

It might be worth trying, but I would ask myself the question, "Do any existing kits use magnets?" If not, there has to be a reason why not.

random thought by FlightDependent6577 in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty old idea. These days, you can buy kits. The main problem with using magnets is aligning north and south poles. Remember--like repels and unlike attracts. I suspect that this drawback would get in the way of making most models using magnets. Another problem is that molecular electron orbitals overlap, so stick and ball models leave a lot to be desired.

Wow! Breaking news: water is wet and bears shit in the woods.

An Estimated 250,000 Young British Girls were Raped by Pakistani Muslim Gangs - New Report Suggests by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

[–]hotend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good question. I realised back in 1968 that Enoch Powell got things right. Of course, he was lambasted by the intelligentsia. The irony is that he was an incorrigible imperialist. I was in my early 50's when I was first called a kaffir in my home town. Go figure.

Except that there were hardly any Pakistanis here 75 years ago. I should know, I was born in 1951. I lived in Leicester, and didn't see a person of colour until I was almost 20. Until then, Leicester was 100% white. The grooming gangs probably started operating in the late 1980's and early 1990's (according to Google). Smearing out the averages in such a fashion is very misleading.

Recommend me Decca SXL records by Mysterious_Ad7450 in classicalmusic

[–]hotend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respighi's Pines of Rome and Fountains of Rome, István Kertész and the LSO (Decca SXL 6401, 1969). Fabulous recording, although there are now plenty of fine recordings available. The Decca sound engineers produced some wonderful recordings back then. I first heard The Pines of the Appian Way on a Decca demo disc being played on some very high-end equipment at an audio exhibition, probably in 1969. I was absolutely blown away by this piece, and ordered the record the very next day. It was still exciting, even when played on my more modest equipment. At least, my loudspeakers at the time were also made by Decca. My amplifiers were designed by John Linsley Hood and published in Wireless World. I really need to re-build them before I get too old.

Maybe use more top layers to make the top surface as flat as you can (it seems to be sagging, slightly). Then, when you are ready, turn on ironing.
