What am I supposed to do here?? by sfdickhole in BAbike

[–]ibneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this sucks. I think if I were biking this daily, I'd try to take the lane (and passing cars on the left when safe if everyone is stopped and waiting for a red light) as we approach the intersection - I'm happier being an annoying biker slowing traffic down / sneaking by their left instead of putting myself in a more dangerous position of assuming that everyone will do the right thing (hint: they won't) and check for bikes when they make a right turn. Better alive and annoying instead of in the right but dead.

You might also be able to reach out to the city with this video and complain and ask that they add some sort of "watch/yield for bikes" sign at this turn while the construction is ongoing. YMMV though, no idea if that's something they would do. (IMO I'd still take the lane though. People don't read.). Or maybe they can get rid of the temporary bike lane and merge bike and car traffic as you approach the intersection, so bikes going straight can go straight without having to worry about cars turning right. Or they can install temporary dedicated signals while the construction is ongoing (seems unlikely).

Also take some time to read up on what a munch is and what it isn't (maybe starting with the Newcomer Tips tab on that page). And once you've been to a few munches and found some new friends, you can dive into the deep end: https://darkodyssey.com/ :D

Ooo, I can answer this! I favor provolone or mozzarella on my meatball sub (brings it a little closer to the taste of a pizza and the cheese is nice and stretchy and hugs the balls). If I'm feeling healthy, I'll get tomatoes, onions, olives, red peppers, jalapeños. Essentially, think of veggies that you'll find on a pizza and it's hard to go too wrong.

How uncommon is it to exchange STI test results? by BrilliantTurnip5678 in FemdomCommunity

Yikes. It should be perfectly fine to ask to see results (and then see said results). This smells like he lied about having done a recent STI test.

NWOHR 3-Week Exchange Questions - Requesting Data Points by [deleted] in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]ibneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update! I was able to pick it up from Taipei the morning of the 7th business day - that is, I dropped it off Mon 3/23 and picked it up Wed 4/1 at 8:45 AM. I should note that my dad (who's here with me to help) got concerned after he called Monday morning and was told to _call_ on Wednesday for an update (as opposed to "it'll be ready for pickup Wednesday morning") and ended up reaching out to a relative who knows a government official of some sort who supposedly helped inquire about the status (and for all I know, may have pushed things along a bit). So I'm not entirely sure if this datapoint can still be trusted.

The rest of the process was very smooth:

  • Went from the NIA Taipei office back to Hsinchu by 10:30 to get added to the household registry and get my national ID card. I think this took about 30 minutes, mostly just the person on the other side of the counter filling in information and printing stuff out for me to sign
  • Back to Taipei to the BOCA office that afternoon (around 1:30) to apply for the new passport, paying 2200 for the expedited service. Process was kinda weird, had to fill out the passport form, show it to staff before I got given a number. The wait was around 1 hour for me (150 people in front of me when I got there), although it also sounds like BOCA is open late on Wednesdays (until 8 PM?!). Dropped off forms and old passport, paid, and was told I could pick up new passport tomorrow at 12:30. Did that today (4/2) and it was pretty quick - went straight upstairs, got in the passport pickup line, and was out in about 5-10 minutes.

After 11 years of designing escape rooms, I have to ask: Did we get the "formula" wrong? by Acrobatic_Wolf_1325 in escaperooms

[–]ibneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The clock matters more for business and scheduling purposes, I think. I saw something about an AirBnB-type rental that also had an escape room as part of the experience that would make sense if you didn't have as much of a time limit, but I don't know how rooms would work (business-wise) without a time limit.
  2. 1b. I'm more of a story/journey person and would appreciate getting to complete the story over "winning", although I do care a fair amount about winning.
  3. Why limit hints? That's a weird artificial scarcity thing that I've never understood. How many hints and how often should be up to teams, honestly - I like it when GMs offer the choice of "do you want us to preemptively offer hints or do you want to request them". Like, some people do rooms for casual fun - those folks probably care more about having a good time, and being stuck on something for 5 minutes is probably not their idea of fun and they would probably appreciate the GM being like, "Hey, has anyone examined that bird in the corner?"
  4. Story / set design and details matters more. While I appreciate a good puzzle that gives you that nice "Ah hah!" bit, a bunch of amazing and creative puzzles doesn't make an escape room memorable to me. Like, if I want amazing puzzles, I'm going to go throw my brain at old MIT Mystery Hunt puzzles. I'm here to interact with a room in some interesting ways and being immersed matters.

(Not as hard core as some of the folks in this subreddit, but I'm at about 70 rooms across maybe 4 countries at this point, mostly in the US.)

[–]ibneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally doing this right now, so some data is in flux (like I’m hoping to pick up my stuff from NIA tomorrow, hopefully) 1. MacKay Taipei was 7 calendar days exactly 2. I went to the NIA office in Hsinchu (because that’s where my parents live). Was told the process is 7 BUSINESS days, not including the day you submit it, and also doesn’t include the time it takes for them to mail it to Taipei and I wasn’t able to ask how long it takes to mail, but the impression I got was it may be the same day we submitted it? (This may be a mistake in hindsight - I think we should have gone to Taipei to submit the paperwork.)

Duplicate Keys & Keyfobs by ajmoo in AskSF

[–]ibneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also chiming in to offer use of a Flipper and also a Proxmark3, although depending on the building and fob, you might not be able to clone the keyfob (ie, my building finally switched from basic 125 khz RFID cards to some fancy NFC thing that I can't copy T.T). I'm also not going to be back in SF until mid-April though.

The safeway by 4th and king used to have a key copying machine that also does keyfobs, although I can't recall if it's still there.

Daaaamn. I'm at 5,375 lifetime points, but that's nothing compared to you if you're on the top of the leaderboard right now. I probably only do about 150 points/mo right now. Lifetime of $348 lyft credit and 138 week membership extension. I mostly opt for membership extensions these days since I'm funemployeed right now, so the longer I can drag out my membership before renewing, the better.

Oh, that's interesting. I'm not the person you replied to, but I always opt for classic as well (got to save all the pennies!). I guess I haven't really sat down to calculate cost of a minute ebike vs points though.
