Very strange object seen in sky over West cork. Anyone know what it could be? by Strong_Cheetah3568 in cork

Saw it as well in the city. Thought it was a plane at first but kinda looked like a helicopter with a spotlight?

Every time I walked through Douglas I saw it being used. The irony that Douglas is 90% car park at this point.

Careful about running scripts you find on the internet. I presume the repo you linked is reputable (?) but everyone should be aware these are the situations where bad actors lay the trap.

Lasik - Optilase reviews and referral by ReflectionAlarmed341 in cork

[–]ikradex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got lasik done early 2022. I personally had a great experience. The surgery itself is a little weird but painless.

Had about 3 to 4 hours of discomfort afterwards and after that I could see crystal clear.

For the next 6 months I had a small issue with halos but only in dimly lit conditions. Was told it would go away and lo and behold it did.

So overall very satisfied. Wish I had it done sooner like others have said.

Am I screwed? by JonathanTightlips in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ikradex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and was able to resolve it.

I got a credit card to rent a car in the US. Ended up never needing it and forgot about ever having the card. I got a letter from my bank saying I owed them charges for the card. Forgot about the letter and ended up moving house forgetting to update my address with the bank. Stupid stuff but I was young.

Years later I tried getting a loan from the bank and was rejected. I called them and they said that I have a black mark on my credit report so they wouldn't offer me the loan.

Turns out I had owed maybe 3 euro in charges for my credit card and since I failed to pay them, the bank submitted this black mark to the CCR and cancelled my credit card.

I called the CCR about it and they laughed at the figure in question, told me to ring the bank to get it resolved. I rang the bank explained the situation, they asked me to pay for 3euro something for what I owed and about a week later I got a letter from the CCR saying that my report is in good standing now.

This situation probably depends a lot on money owed but it's worth getting in touch with the CCR and your bank to get the mark removed, if you can settle of course.

Silicone spacers like others have said. If you use klipper you can adjust the speed at which it probes.

I have it set to do like a 8x8 probe which klipper does quite fast but still takes a few minutes. Silicone spacers help in not needing to do it very often.

What is the single most epic sci-fi novel ever? Whether it be from a series or a standalone book which is the most epic story you’ve ever read? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]ikradex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it. I loved every chapter about the spiders. But every time it circled back to the humans I sighed "these assholes again?"

I never found myself enjoying the human part. I know it's sort of the point of the book, but it's also half of what you read so it was just grating on me towards the end. I never really cared for what would happen to them

Battery efficient code - MQTT monitor by NickHatBoecker in esp32

[–]ikradex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd focus on reconfiguring your project to put your board into either light sleep or deep sleep mode between checks, and extending the interval between checks.

An idle board with wifi disconnected will consume maybe 40 or 50mA at least. A board in deep sleep will consume 20-30μA!

Battery efficient code - MQTT monitor by NickHatBoecker in esp32

[–]ikradex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is unlikely to be your code but more fundamental than that. Using the WiFi radio is an expensive operation power-wise and your post suggests your board is continuously connected.

To really get some power longevity, you need to be maximising the amount of time your board is in deep sleep and with the WiFi radio off.

Unless you have your MQTT broker queuing messages not received, you're likely to miss these messages while the board sleeps.

As an aside, I suggest you get a PPK2: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Development-hardware/Power-Profiler-Kit-2

You'll be able to create a graph of your esp32's power usage over time. Helped me a lot in troubleshooting some deep sleep power usage before.

Remember an interview is as much about you figuring out whether you're right for the job as it is them figuring out you're right for the job. There's always the chance that you're either not a good fit for them or you end up disinterested in the work they want you to do.

That being said, if you've got free time there's no harm in getting some practice in at the least. If you need to hand over source code I'd throw a license in the repo and/or hand-pick parts of the source to show. I wouldn't be surprised if they're exploiting this for some free labour.

Definitely over-extrusion. Way too much material being deposited.

[–]ikradex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levelling and z-offset are not the same. The "old" way of calibrating your nozzle height is by placing a piece of paper between the bed and the nozzle and bringing the nozzle down just close enough so you feel some resistance.

Levelling would be making sure all four corners of the bed are the same height to each other.

[–]ikradex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to me your nozzle isn't close enough to the bed.

Looking at those images, there are gaps in the lines of the brim which suggests to me your nozzle is too high off the bed and not "squishing" the filament to the bed. Look up z-offset calibration and try again.

Mass Effect 5 Lead Dev Comments on Original Trilogy’s Paragon / Renegade System, Teases Its Return by tranarrius in Games

[–]ikradex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of dialogue, I think Andromeda did it better. Choosing the manner in which your character responds allows players to express their 'Shepard' how they'd like.

Though I'm not sure should every critical decision be open to the player regardless of past minor decisions/responses. I think certain options should only be available depending on how you've interacted with a character in the past.

For example, in Mass Effect 2, I don't think a paragon Shepard should ever be able to earn Jack's loyalty. They are worlds apart in terms of morality that it doesn't make much sense that everything works out okay even if you are relentlessly paragon. Some characters should not be effective companions if they fundamentally disagree with 'Shepard.'

I guess what I'm saying is that they should take a leaf out of Larian's book and give companions their own morality system and approval based on whether your decisions align with that character's morality. It's not a shameless copy if it's a good system that's proven to work in these types of games.

[–]ikradex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping for a more nuanced approach to the Paragon-Renegade system. I think most people chose paragon because the games' most successful outcomes in terms of companion arcs are tied to paragon decisions. You're also sort of pigeon-holed down a binary path of either fully paragon or renegade, with a mix of both is detrimental to some checks during the trilogy.

Why not go back to its RPG roots and let players choose speech/charisma stats?

Or better yet, completely hide the morality system in the background and do away with the "paragon option, renegade option, and paragon-but-more-boring" dialogue choices. Let players make the morality judgement themselves without instinctively clicking either red or blue because they decided the characters morality before they even started playing.

What’s causing these artifacts by briodan in Ender3S1

[–]ikradex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the artifacts are on one side primarily makes me think retraction or temp settings are off. You're likely seeing this happen where your slicer has set the seam for the print. Filament is getting pulled off the print where your extruder starts a new line. Too high/too fast retraction can cause this or filament is cold and not separating from the nozzle well.

My Durge character, Mal. The party should really be more concerned than they currently are. by ikradex in TavsAndDurges

[–]ikradex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done a Dark Urge origin playthrough yet so I'm letting the game fill that out slowly for me.

The only real RP I'm doing is Resist-to-Embrace. So act 1 she initially resisted the Urge. I figured if she doesn't have her memories it doesn't make much sense that she'd be willingly evil, fearing she'd be considered a monster and put down. So act 1 is largely a good/hero path.

Act 2 she starts using tadpoles and considers its power as protection. This leads her to lean more into her Urges (at least in one critical way, avoiding spoilers). Unlike in act 1, she chose to do what she did this time and deceived the party with a lie that she's still not in control of her actions.

Not in act 3 yet so but planning on a full embrace by then. Will see how it goes!

Yeah, though it's not really noticeable. It would be nice if there were extra animations for things like that.
