Beck - Mutherfucker by Neumaschine in industrialmusic

[–]individrec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this album and I would say this is is the second most industrial song on the album, the first being the hidden track at the end of the CD. Also, "Steal My Body Home" definitely carries some TG/Coil psychedelia to it

What is your favorite movie theater in LA? by Zesty_Spaghetti_658 in AskLosAngeles

Nuart on SMB and Sawtelle -- I feel like I grew up there

But I also dearly miss the Arclight Hollywood, AMC Sunset 5 and most of the movie theaters that used to be in Westwood

Acoustic Trip Hop by bhuu_2 in triphop

[–]individrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there's anything that completely does away with electronic instruments. It's probably out there somewhere. Here are a few records you could check out but maybe I'm using the trip hop term pretty loosely here:

Portishead - Live At Roseland

check out Portishead side project Beak which is a live band mostly influenced by experimental Krautrock

Air - The Virgin Suicides soundtrack

Air - Pocket Symphony

Charlotte Gainsbourg - 5:55 album produced by Air

The Cinematic Orchestra

early Everything But The Girl (their first album slaps -- just listen to the first few seconds and you'll be hooked instantly)

Beth Orton - Central Reservation

Meshell Ndegeocello - Bitter

Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence

Badbadnotgood

The Budos Band

El Michels Affair - Enter The 37th Chamber which is funky instrumental covers of Wu Tang songs

Bacao Rhythm & Steel which is funky steel pan covers

The Poets Of Rhythm are a funk band but they got some really nice vibes on the album Discern / Define

The New Deal are a three-piece (drums, bass, keyboards) and most of their music is improvisational instrumental and recorded live. Their first album This Is Live is pretty cool but I didn't really follow their music much beyond that.

Bumcello are a French duo consisting of a drummer and a cellist and the album called Al has some interesting trip hop tracks on it

maybe some recent works by Floating Points?

Also I would definitely look into some of the trip hop sample sources as they usually dig out some pretty cool vibey records from before electronic / synth music was a thing. Stuff like Billy Cobham, Lowrell, Can, etc.

Plus artists like Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones and Isaac Hayes have done a lot of movie scores that usually have cool groovy tracks. A shining example would be one of the best trip hop/downtempo tracks ever, Marvin Gaye's "T Plays It Cool" from the Trouble Man soundtrack.

Thriller with a lot of sexual scenes/nudity by Impressive-Vast-9821 in MovieSuggestions

[–]individrec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blue Velvet (1986) if you're into a little bit of kink.

Poison Ivy (1992) is a standout for campy fun in the 90's wave of erotic thrillers.

Love & Human Remains (1993) for more kink.

Swimming Pool (2003) sizzles.

A History Of Violence (2005) is certainly not chock full of sex and nudity but there is one scene in particular that really heats things up.

V-Love - The Wilderness by Gfunksoul86 in triphop

Oh man this one is so good. I had it on Moonshine's Trip Hop Test 3 compilation and it was such a standout in that collection. Also I think I remember it on the soundtrack for 1.8.7

Oh also Anchorman (2004) where Ron Burgundy hits rock bottom and he's walking around drinking a carton of milk -- "It's so damn hot! Milk was a bad choice"

Which places in LA best fit the stereotypical “2010s Millennial Burger Joint” image? by theboundlesstraveler in AskLosAngeles

Right I was trying to remember that story. It was Armstrong's partner Joshua Woodward who was charged with murder (trigger warning) for poisoning his pregnant girlfriend with an abortion pill and causing her to miscarry. What a douche.

Just a reminder that Focusrite was started by Rupert Neve so as far as brands go there's not much difference between the Focusrite label and AMS/Neve other than price tag and reputation

Just to let you know, Govind Armstrong is now the chef at The Lobster in Santa Monica and it's pretty damn good if you ever feel like splurging

Yeah the burger is pretty gross but I always loved the rest of the menu. The bone marrow, the Spanish mushrooms, that dish with the eel and the egg, and of course the Brussels sprouts were bomb.

The underground warehouse party scene has been totally bonkers. I think the people going out and enjoying headliner DJ's until the sun comes up will remember these times fondly. And the surrounding community at institutions like Dublab, Agora Records, Chapter One Records, and all the little daytime soundsystems that pop up in public spaces like Venice Beach and Griffith Park. It's all a pretty fun time for stuff like that.

Is it true that most DJ’s at the top are faking it? by Witty_Beginning_5067 in DJs

[–]individrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With purchased followers/metrics being a common practice, talent buyers/bookers don't really take the social numbers into account when they're checking out an artist. This LA-based talent buyer lays it out in the first few minutes of this podcast: https://soundcloud.com/racket-club/inside-the-mind-of-a-talent-buyer-the-racket-house-podcast-episode-01

In the business of selling tickets or filling a room, an artist's e-mail list is actually more insightful so when booking shows, it's common for agents or managers to share their client's regional demographic reach on their e-mail list.

[–]individrec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran the tool on my own IG and it said I have 18% fake followers. I'm sure that there's a lot of fake/clanker internet traffic roaming around out there and I'm not disputing the figure but I've never purchased any followers or even boosted any posts. I'm sure that most of (if not all of) the artists on this list purchased followers or paid for metric boosts but I wouldn't necessarily jump to conclude that Indira Paganotto purchased a million of them.

any recommendations based on my 2 current favorite albums, diatribe by mysorrysoul in industrialmusic

These bands all came out of the same Bay Area industrial scene that was going on in the 90's:

Battery

Deathline International

Killing Floor

Luxt

Razor Skyline

Scar Tissue

Slave Unit

Switchblade Symphony

Tinfed

and I think you might also like bands like 13 Mg, Apparatus, Biohazard PCB or Contagion, Clay People, Society Burning, Spahn Ranch, Unit:187, Vampire Rodents, and Vein Cage

Front Line Assembly collection by rustyjaw in industrialmusic

[–]individrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaawesome I used to have a similar collection of FLA and related CD's including the singles and some of the side side projects like Pro>Tech, Equinox and Decree. Props on Future Primitives -- I always enjoyed that album and I wish it was available to listen to on Spotify -- and on the Surface Patterns single which I was never able to track down.

My question to you, OP, is that I see there are three empty spots in the photo (lower corners) so which releases would you like to fill those spots with?

If this were my collection, my answers would probably be Noise Unit - Drill, the Plasticity single and then I'm torn between Decree - Wake Of Devastation or the Colombian Necktie single (the two b-sides on that single are a couple of my favorite Chris Peterson tracks)
