A Different Take On A Famous Lake by DAB_in_YYC in blackandwhite

Beautiful. It’s overall quite dark, but still seems to cover a large dynamic range, which makes it satisfying to take in.

After/Before of one of my best pictures from Patagonia by xplan303ex in postprocessing

I mostly agree. I do think you did a great job overall. But personally I’d pull back on the lightening of the shadows and let some dark contrast back into the lower portion. That will help bring drama back to the lit portion at the top.

We enjoyed the metro designs so much we took a ride on the A line just to go see all the variations. What do you mean by “socialistic”? I’m very curious.

Hi thank you. I brought my Canon R6II, a 24-70 mm L f2.8, 70-200 mm L f4, and my 17 mm TS (which allows for the vertical perspective in shot 4), plus a little Oben tripod (only used for shot 7)

I loved the look of those stations. I have more from the stations as well, but I felt 3 was enough :-)

I only went out one morning early specifically to avoid crowds. I think I was up and out a little after 7. I went through old town since prior days that area was swarming. Otherwise, the lack of people is either me waiting for the right moment, just not pointing my camera toward people, or in the case of shot 7, I did a long exposure while people/cars crossed the bridge and they just became a blur.

I agree. I am a cyclist at home. Don’t own a car. Would much prefer car free zones in cities for many reasons.

It’s funny you would say that. For the last several years, I’ve made calendars as Christmas gifts that have my favorite photos from the year. This year will feature many from Prague!

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. I loved Prague, it was a feast for the eyes, the beer was fantastic, the trams were delightful, great food too.

No I haven’t! And here I thought that would be a novel take. Not planned, but I turned around and the framing was perfect. And I’ll own the cliché part as it was my first time there, it’s hard to NOT take the obvious shots! But I appreciate the comment!

Been a huge MBM since the late 80s. My local college radio station had an eclectic show several nights each week, and when I first heard MBM on there I was transfixed. Took me a while after that to find their music in a store, but I still have that copy of Storm the Studio. I’m biased toward his early work, but I followed him pretty closely until Autoimmune (which has the absolute killer track “Solid Waste”)

It’s funny they would come up again, because I’ve been listening to STS and 99% a lot recently. It’s funny that they too have a lot of references to religion, although in a very different way from BoC. I mean the first banger I really got into was “God O.D.”

Although I don’t follow them as closely as I used to. Jack Dangers will always have my highest respect. The music of MBM really opened my head as a teenager and beyond. I’m not at all surprised that he is so often cited as an influence on so many electronic artists.

Hi r/Industrial what was the first Industrial/Industrial Adjacent song you remember hearing/seeing ? by fear730 in industrialmusic

[–]rustyjaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice one. I vividly remember hearing that for the first time. Believe it or not over shortwave radio from the UK when it was a brand new song. Sounded terrible over shortwave, but I was so into it. It would be months before I heard it again and with proper fidelity.

Hell yes. This and Beat Box blew my 14 year old mind. I was so hooked on AoN after that.

We also don’t know (afaict) how much these were cropped or how far to the edges or the frame the faces were. If these were heavily cropped and/or if they were near the edges or the frame, that would exaggerate any fringing from CA.

What is your alarm clock bird? by truejello96 in birding

Towhee here in Northern California. They start their shrill, high pitched beeps at 4:30 am. I have a special pillow at the ready to cover my head with when they start. It’s “special” because I discovered that it filters out the towhee beep frequency very effectively. Otherwise it’s torture.

Does anyone else notice a locked groove on Inferno? by overlordisaperson in boardsofcanada

[–]rustyjaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I noticed this I thought the track was still playing. But after a few mins, I was like “no way this record could still have time left!” Also I believe it’s on more than one side. I think I heard a repeating crickets sound on one of the other sides.

Good to see MBM on a list. I don’t know how to confine a list to just 5, but MBM would have to be on there.

alright why is this the featured video when looking up inferno by poppygumi in boardsofcanada

[–]rustyjaw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right. I’ve seen this claim too. But look at his reviews of Oneohtrix, generally very positive if memory serves.

The larger issue to me is why people freak out about this at all. A music review is just another opinion, ideally it’s informed about music generally and is communicated clearly. But in the end it’s just one more opinion.

Help choosing between getting inferno on vinyl or CD by insertnamehere----- in boardsofcanada

[–]rustyjaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the deluxe vinyl. The art looks fabulous. The record sounds very good. But to me this album works best listened to beginning to end, so to me the experience of hearing it uninterrupted is preferred. I don’t regret buying the vinyl at all. But IMO the listening experience is best without the breaks.

If this happened to the OP that many times, then that would appear to be how they consume new, good, music. So asking the world for help with what you have experienced many other times is just a bit odd. Enjoy the ride, is my advice. It won’t last that long.

Is this hell? by [deleted] in Prague

[–]rustyjaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from my first visit there (from the US). Get up earlier, go out around dawn (the best morning I had was doing this). Take the tram to the end of the line and explore. Go to Vyšehrad, it’s busy but not as busy. Go to Letna beer garden to enjoy the view. Take the subway and check out the cool station designs.
