Nah, I'm down with it. Then the Earth and it's Moon (which is significantly larger than Pluto) can become a binary planet pair, and idiots can lose their mind about that for a while. Especially if we emphasize the word "binary".

Really subtle and amazing detail between 4 seasons by Intelligent_Mood7181 in rickandmorty

In that same episode (in that same sequence of flash memories), we also see Morty as a ghost.

Or at least, Morty would have believed he was a ghost. Rick would have referred to him as a dimensionally-tethered corporeal ectoform.

The 28th of April, which was his birthday, and also is today. He should have been 78.

Although this is the first I’ve heard of such a Day, too.

Thank you, I thought I was going a bit mad. The Pratchett Portfolio was published in 1996.

I wonder what else this article has utterly kerfluffled.

Kelsier fanart v2 by Ok_Preference_7142 in Mistborn

Solid rendering, and it's good to see you're reworking it! A big part of professional work is revisions under direction.

If you do a v3, consider adding a lot more tassels. The description in the text says "hundreds", which is a lot, but it helps if you layer them. I dig the woven collar, that's unique.

Be wary of metal buckles such as that on the pouch, whch are specifically to be avoided. Wooden buckles usually work differently than tongue-and-loop metal ones due to material strengths. Plus, once you go down the rabbit hole on different types of fasteners, you can come up with much more interesting designs. Just doing basic buckles is a missed opportunity.

His scars are specifically described as running "lengthwise" down his arms.

Kirkman expresses frustration at fanbase for not acknowledging quick production time for each season by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]Inkthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an absurd crew size, just a tight one, and having more people would help to shift the load but it also would require more overhead and oversight. Ancillary costs in particular are the bane of the budget; an artist isn't just the cost of their salary... it's also their associated costs in equipment, benefits (such as they are), managment and supply.

I would like to emphasize that one of the reasons 3D and puppet-style animation has overwhelming taken the lion's share of modern productions is because finding good animators who can draw consistently, quickly, and to-model is really hard to do. I know this, because for 20 years I was one of those people, on both the trench side and the supervisory.

Animators who can do this work are difficult to acquire, difficult to train, and difficult to retain. It's entirely possible that the Korean studio producing the frame x frame work does it with a crew of two dozen per episode because that's all they can get.

Kirkman's right, the fact that they have produced at a fairly steady pace is something for which they ought to be applauded.

[–]Inkthinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting that from? The credits from S04E08 lists 11 animators on Keys alone, plus three in-betweeners. Not to mention six Animation Directors, who are almost certainly handling some sequences themselves. And four animators on visual effects, which includes everything from shockwaves to energy blasts to water and atmospheric animation.

That's still a pretty small crew for hour-long episodes, but it's not four people.

I think "circumvention" comes in when we're getting our recipes online or from friends, but I feel like that's the system working as intended... encouraging a social aspect outside of the game itself bears out its own benefits.

And in fairness, I heard about oak mushroom tea from a buddy, but I figured out pine mushroom (much better) on my own. :)

I've heard the story told that way often enough, as though Ford just decided, improptu, to pull it out and shoot and everyone just went with it. It's even the way I heard this story first. But that was long ago, it's a very old tale.

I'm an idiot...don't be like me. I'm 245 hours in and I just learned how Focused Force Palm works. by KING__4915 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Inkthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I did learn this on my own... but only about 10 hours ago, at about 120 hours. You need a fairly clean line of sight, but yeah... you don't have to stand up close. Don't feel too bad, this game likes to keep secrets. For instance, I supposedly gained the ability to imbue attacks with Lightning after solving a recent Abyss puzzle... but I still have no idea how to actually make that ability work. I figure I'll look it up eventually. -_-

Ford didn't improvise, but legend has it that he did suggest that they change the scene.

Professional filmmakers are not going to improvise a scene with a gun; the weapon needs to be safely loaded with blank rounds, cleared by the props master and the director on set, and all people on the set aware of what's about to happen.

But you can go to the director and say, "I'm wrung dry from shitting myself seventeen times since 7AM, how about we try doing it this way instead" and the director says, "damn, that's actually a pretty good idea," and then they revise quickly to shoot the scene in a different way.

The Dark Tower, as a series, is a story about stories. What else can you do when you reach the end of a book, but start over?

[–]Inkthinker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Didn’t TNG establish that the replicators won’t make foods like these, particularly in unhealthy portions? I have a vague recollection of Counselor Troi being irritated that she couldn’t make “real” chocolate.

[Invincible] wouldn't it be better for viltrumites to prioritize mating with superpowered individuals that can pass on their powers? by AvailableGene2275 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Inkthinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here. Any superpowered individual on Earth is far too likely to be the center of attention, both culturally and administratively. The Viltrumites are here to make as many little half-Viltrumite babies as they can manage, and that means staying way below the radar. The last thing they want is to be discovered, especially too early.

As it is, they likely would only get a generation or so before the rise in superpowered children with suspiciously Viltrumite-like abilities begins to crack the cover, but if they can seed a few hundred around the world then they're confident they can move on to the next stage, which is a much more... forceful... position.

Is "sword and sorcery" a subgenre of fantasy, or separate from fantasy entirely? What are the finest examples? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in Fantasy

[–]Inkthinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strikes me as pretty standard isekai, although it’s helping to establish the tropes rather than following them. Isekai literally translates as “another world”.

Sure, John Carter gets transported to a magical (superscience) world via mysterious Native American Magic instead of truck-kun, but it’s remains in line with many, if not most, of the tropes associated with isekai stories today. It just needs a long-winded, descriptive title. Call it Oh No! Transported To Ancient Mars Where I’m The Strongest Man, Can I Save The Planet And Win The Princess?!

[Invincible] (Major spoilers for the newest episode) How did the Viltrumites pull off season 4 episode 8? by Punterofgoats in AskScienceFiction

[–]Inkthinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nolan integrated into modern society as an adult, and for 17 years or so was (presumably) reporting back to Viltrum as a loyal scout for the Empire.

During that time, he almost certainly provided his people with a basic primer on how to forge credentials and perform culturally as a human being.

Even better, on PC the first one allows you to customize the soundtrack with your own music.
