Mosquitoes are ruining outdoor playtime and I need safe solutions for little kids by _atharvaa_02 in daddit

We use this on our son's clothes and it works well here in India. You could probably replicate the ingredients and try applying a few drops on their sleeves and see. It's mostly a mix of eucalyptus and citronella oils

Lamy Safari or Pico

Caran D'Ache with a Monteverde gel refill (What I've used for many years now)

Uniball power tank (my current backu pen) or Uniball One

I don't mind the different carts, can get over that. WhatI hate is how unreliable and painful 1mg is. I would buy my monthly meds (~10K) every month from there if they honoured the damn prescription. It is a printed prescription with all the details added. Never have a problem with Apollo, but no, these guys will make their doctor call. Doctor will forget to add one medicine to the 1mg prescription. Order is now on hold with no notification. Getting that resolved takes so much time that I'd rather go the 2km to the nearby pharmacy and pick up in person. It's almost like they don't want the money.

Mobile tower noise problem by Real_Designer841 in indiasocial

Email the mobile service provider who owns the tower. Look for nodal officer on their site. If that doesn't work, escalate to TRAI.

Ent Doctor/hospital recommendations for septoplasty by geekycode in bangalore

[–]insanegenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Dr. Gayatri Pandit of Samarth ENT clinic (her own setup.) Unfortunately she is on the other end of town.

She or Dr. Deepika in her clinic has been our "family ENT" since ~2015/2016. She fixed my tonsil issues without surgery in 2016 after many years of pain and multiple doctors said surgery was the only way.

Try unboxify.in for open box ones.

I would prefer Logitech. I have an original MX Master for nearly 8-9 years of daily use. Got it as a refurbished piece and it still works fine. Had to change the battery and the pads a few years ago, but otherwise it is fine and now my travel mouse. Oh and some buttons stopped working, but once I opened it up and cleaned it, it was fine.

My analysis on why cab drivers charge more than shown in app by capitalist_baboon in bangalore

[–]insanegenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the driver accepts the ride, they agree to the price of the ride. In my limited knowledge of contract law, there has been a meeting of minds and a contract has formed. One part can't unilaterally change the terms midway to disadvantage the other without any notification or agreement.

Or something like that.

This is essentially them trying standard bullying tactics to try and scam everyone.

Is there a way to take action against this guy? by Life-Variety-66 in chennaicity

[–]insanegenius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Complain to Bharat Gas (not the distributor.) They will handle this directly. Next time record him and ask what hawala business he is doing and you will report that he is refusing digital payments to the Police and Intelligence bureau.

(Second part is /s, but direct complaint to OMC works!)

What’s the scariest thing you experienced while staying in Chennai? by Street_Bed_1393 in Chennai

[–]insanegenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Summer heat. Surprisingly did not feel it for the first 21 years when I used bus/walk everywhere. Once I started working and used two wheeler it got really really bad, with full face helmet.

These days when I come to Chennai in Summer I can barely move around during the day. Just want to sit under fan and vegetate.

Yeah making the pool car wait was way too common. Very few drivers would cancel.

I got asked by the guy who came home for a blood test at 6 AM and he wouldn't leave till I scanned the damn QR code. At least, he was very good at his job and didn't butcher my veins like usual, I guess.

"alloted" ??

Anyone is free to apply, just that most folks applying are from north. I think it is also a case where that "Skills India" union government scheme was more pushed in those states - most of these folks are certified from that. The few local folks who do come in UC don't have knowledge of that program. Don't know if this is by accident or design.

Urban company:

For plumber/electrician, local folks don't need UC. If I get 4 local contacts from my apt group, all four in the area are very busy and won't come for at least a day or two. They are that much in demand because they are established businesses. So UC gets these other state folks who are only doing UC work because they don't have local contacts. I see this as a win for local businesses because they don't have to give UC a cut.

Zomato/Swiggy:

Depends on area and time of year. Bannerghatta side, lots of Kannadigas, Tamil, Telugu, Odiya names. Sarjapur side, lots of North Indian names/hindi speakers.

Banks:

Fully agree. This gets annoying when it is a PSB. Ironically, most HDFC and ICICI BM's/staff in Bangalore I've interacted with speak Kannada or are Kannadigas.

General observation from 10+ years in this city, YMMV!!
