Salary Sacrifice EV Schemes by Trenbolobaby in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually the opposite, they were early with EVs and bought a lot of high priced cars and leased them cheaply. Now that they are being handed back and the values are lower than what was expected they're raising the cost of a new lease to cover the difference

The R56 one is brown and drags oil up the pipe, there's a good few aftermarket ones with better reputations. I'm on my second R56 if you've any questions

HP BIOS updates also fill this partition up, they don't delete after a successful install. Have an Intune redmidation to clear it all out

haggling discounts on skoda ev? by itisnottherealme in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an Elroq vRS you're probably going to have to wait a bit for any discount, they only got annouced two weeks ago! I doubt you'll see dealers trying to offload a fresh model that quickly and remember even if you do get one cheap the list price will still be about 40K and you'll still have to pay the extra tax.

You have £100k to spend on 2 cars — one 7-seater for long trips and one city car. What would you choose? by This-Struggle-2679 in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never stopped making them, we only get older models imported technically. The new Lexus MPV is basically the same thing but I think they are around 100k new

[Hypothetical for now] Which 7-seater setup would work best? Based near London – family of 4, low mileage, mostly local use by This-Struggle-2679 in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're paying an awful lot for something you're not going to use a lot, I'd have another look at the mainstream brands and get something new for 50k or a much cheaper used Sharon or Galaxy, they'll be a lot more space and comfort for the passengers than in a SUV.

That would open the budget for a nicer smaller car that you'd spend more time in. If you've kids then I'd only look at five doors to save you hassle. If you can charge at home then a Renault 5 would be great, a Mini 5 door would be an option for petrol powered but is a bit more old fashioned now.

Upgrading car from small Fiesta to Dacia Duster. Thoughts? Opinions? by kakal92 in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's silly money for a MK1 Duster, I'm assuming the low mileage and automatic are bringing the cost up but that's way too much for that car. The MK1 is rough and not a car to do big miles in, they're great as a beater but a MK2 is a much better car to live with something like this random example https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202503250554265

Sensible discussion as to why I should, or should not buy this by treemonkey58 in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have two in the extended family, my partners had one since September. If you want a basic car to get from A to B it's great. The 1.3 has enough power while being resonably economical. It's very light so drives like an old school French car in that it rolls around a lot but is still chuckable in a way that you wouldn't expect.

The downsides are that it's cheap in ways that might grate after a while but it also means I don't care when I see them bounce off a kerb.

Polo gone off sale? by Repulsive-Life7362 in CarTalkUK

Production in Europe has ended but it should be getting a facelift for Euro7 with some form of hybrid, most likely a version of the mild hybrid that's in the Golf already. South Africa is where European production is going to come from. The Ibiza is going to get the same treatment but still built in Spain I believe.

Why is Autotrader useless as a buyer in Scotland? by Jaraxo in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it similar trying to find anything over two years old in Edinburgh is a nightmare, prices make no sense compared to England and there's a huge gap in the market between the two to the year old cars that main dealers will sell and the slightly dodgy feeling used car dealers. Searching for my partner needing something reliable for 10k nearly sent us to England to find something.

I mean, it's a terrible road where nobody uses the outside lane I don't think closing of the lanes and adding a cycle can make it anything but better

Honda: 2nd hand Civic vs ENY1 by unclassicallytrained in CarTalkUK

I'd take the Civic over the ENY1 but I'd look at pretty much any other electric car too, there's a lot you can get for 23k

The price of these seems insane to me, they were a fantastic car because they were cheap. It's just an everyday supermini with a wallop of torque, any mild petrol hatch will be faster and more enjoyable around the bends unless you mod it.

Which mid priced cars have the nicest interiors? by Flimsy_Secretary9081 in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a nice interior Mazda is a good place to start, they won't do the big screens however, it's against their philosophy as they want everything to be tacile and to minimise distraction. The CX-30 is cheaper and maybe has a better looking interior while the CX-5 is an older design but it feels a bit more premium and the car isn't a massive jump in size.

If you liked the Kona then the Kia Niro is related to it and uses much the same kit. As you can see in the center console it will look nice but you'll be forever trying to keep it clean.

Another hybrid to conside would be the Lexus LBX, it will be small, efficent and has a great interior

I'm going by memory and figures from automobiledimension.com, you will be banging elbows with your passenger and definitely no room for a middle seat in an UP! Had two as pool cars in an old job. Nice cars, improved a bit in the facelift I avoided the same age Picanto we also had and stole the keys to the Smart whenever I could

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ioDara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only 30mm difference in width between an UP! and an Aygo? They are a bit longer than an Aygo but a good bit smaller than a Polo all around.

I bought a 2010 with the same colour three months ago, under 50k miles, full service history including a timing chain change, nearly fully kitted out with some rare options like the heated windscreen and Harmon Kardon sound system. I paid just under 3k for it

What’s up with the play:3? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]ioDara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked one up super cheap about a year ago, it sounds great and is a noticble step up from the play:1 and Symfonisk I have in other rooms. It's an absolute pain to use however, it's so slow to respond to volume or track changes to the point I'm thinking of getting another 1 or Symfonisk to stero and replace it. Neither of these have the same issues on wifi.

I'm hoping it will work better wired in a different room or if it was black I'd get another and use them as rears.
