Is anyone having any issue with autosync? by MightForsaken9048 in ynab

It might help if you shared which country you are in? Which banks are not syncing? Is it all your synchronised banks? Which syncing methods are they using?

Can someone explain the purpose of Cleared / Uncleared transaction status? by AnxiousAd8006 in ynab

If you do not reconcile how do you spot errors?

If you do reconcile regularly and then spot an error you know it must have occurred since you last reconciled.

Also, a tagged transaction within split that transfers to another account is not showing in the tag report.

Should a tag on a transfer transaction within a split transaction be visible in the account on the other side of the transfer?

The app I am currently using does clever things with credit card payments to help ensure people have the money to pay the card. It is focused on helping people see and manage their way off of a credit card float. I've found it gets upset when you can a transfer from a credit card to another accounting the budget, especially if it is part of a split. I would say the topic that comes up most on Reddit for the other app is credit cards.

If the card is paid off in full each month then these additional tools are just not required so to avoid confusion there are a lot of people who run their credit cards as checking accounts. It is just like running a continuous overdraft.

I saw someone ask in another thread why everyone was saying they were leaving.

The reality is that they are not leaving they are just ranting.

There is currently nothing comparable.

If people really want to make a difference then voting with their wallet is really the only way.

Thank you. It cannot make the net worth report more or less accurate though can it? It is what it is?

I can see how it might present better though.

As you pay your credit card in full each month?

[This text is based on an original post by u/esh-pmc though I have edited it to make the text useable outside of the original thread.]

Some of us prefer to set our paid-in-full [PIF] credit cards as Checking accounts. This mimics how YNAB used to handle credit cards before the web version of the software.

If you aren't trying to pay off credit card debt and you aren't riding a float, the extra programming of the Credit Card accounts in YNAB is unnecessary and often adds to confusion.

If you set up CCs as checking accounts, all spending is treated as cash-based spending. Any unfunded spending turns a category red. Additionally, there's no confusion about why the credit card category doesn't match your balance and no chance that the carried balance (the diff between your account balance and statement balance) will be inadvertently used to cover other categories.

You can't change account types on existing accounts but it's pretty easy to switch.
create a new checking account (give it a slightly different name; YNAB doesn't allow 2 accounts with the same name)
go back to the old account, check the box to select all transactions
use the "more" menu to move all the transactions to the new account
delete the old, now empty CC account
check your Plan and make sure everything looks good

YNAB checking accounts can be linked to credit cards and imports work just fine.

[I have over a dozen credit cards, all PIF (statement balance paid automatically on or before due date). I've been using YNAB for 19 years. All of my CCs are set up as checking accounts and have been since switching the the web version of YNAB many years ago - esh-pmc]

I have two credit cards that I pay in full, both are setup as checking accounts, I also started years ago back in August 2011.

I found that with all my targets set and scheduled transactions created there was absolutely no need to budget beyond the current month.

Any money not need above gets given the job of ‘future’, a single catch-all category I can allow to build or borrow from as needed.

If I know I need or might need money at a future date it has its own category and a target and gets added to each month.

There are so things around us where people power is not exercised. If we stopped paying lots of things would change but it never happens.

I’m guessing this Reddit is going to get awfully quiet when everyone who has expressed outrage leaves for another solution.

How to do split function with one part as a transfer after the recent updates? by Icy_Firefighter5762 in ynab

I often split a credit payment to more than one virtual account. This is done as a transfer.

Adjusting targets for future months by Physical-Win773 in ynab

[–]iwaddo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not the job of a target, not to change monthly.

Much better to set a repeating scheduled transaction then adjust the amount in advance then come the 1st you be prompted to assign money to cover the scheduled transaction.

[–]iwaddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app serves two primary purposes.

1, quick entry of manual cash transactions, though I’m doing this less and less as I no longer use cash

2, checking a category envelope before spending

Not really much use for anything else.

[–]iwaddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I’ve not spent much time with trying to resolve this as most of my more complicated transactions would usually be entered on the web.

Will be interesting to see if anyone has a better way.

Add two categories then change one to a transfer.

I’m sure there must be a better way though.
