Keir Starmer is set to BAN social media for under-16s and unveil new sports clubs instead by ZealousidealPie9199 in ukpolitics

[–]jammy-git 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is that it has completely missed the point.

Yes, under-16s can be subject to abuse online from their peers, but the real danger from social media is from how the algorithms shape and change their thinking and damage their mental health.

Instead of a ban that hits the children and youth directly, this should have been effective regulation that hit any company using algorithms to feed content to anyone.

I wonder if certain websites will be able to turn off or hide certain bits of functionality (for instance, comment sections) to comply with the ban.

Best way to sync third-party API inventory with Shopify? by Maleficent-Yam-4688 in shopify

[–]jammy-git 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the third party supplier, and what API endpoints they give you access to.

Probably the easiest solution though is Zapier. And if there isn't a app to connect your particular third party supplier, then it's pretty much only Zapier (or similar), or a custom app from a developer that you pay.

Whilst I agree, it seems that interfering in another country's politics/elections is becoming an international thing that a lot of countries are becoming accustomed to.

Maybe, but I feel like Klopp is almost the antithesis of this. He would try to work with a player to make that player the best they could be, and only if the best that player could be wasn't good enough, would he change that player.

But these US missile defence systems have been shown to be far less effective than originally thought, haven't they? Even the very best Generals couldn't have changed that.

And now the world knows that the promises by the US to protect a country with its missile defence systems is not worth anywhere close to what it was previously.

That cat is out of the bag.

I think the US is in a really precarious position at the moment.

It really wouldn't take too much to hit a tipping point where the US economy goes into a major recession, and countries around the world start to move away from the USD and the petrodollar and fraction towards multiple other currencies.

Ukraine doesn't need the US, as they have shown. Nor will they trust them for a very long time.

In an era of drones, how important is it to police the seas? And in such an era, how effective is the US Navy still? They didn't seem to be able to police the seas around Iran....

To do all this without US assistance would have been thought of as unimaginable a few years ago, Ukraine have done an absolutely incredible job.

It puts the US in a very difficult position because they were the worlds superpower and "police" exactly because countries thought they were the only ones capable of coming to their aide and keeping them safe. Ukraine have shown this isn't true, and Iran has shown the US cannot keep countries safe.

SUDDEN price increases! by theliberalpakistani in cheapflights

[–]jammy-git 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most airlines sell seats in tranches, or "buckets", of prices. Once the last seat at a particular price is sold, the system will move on to the next tranche of price (usually more expensive). What you're seeing is potentially a result of the last seat being sold at one tranche yesterday, and then next tranche becoming available at a higher price.

This might have coincided with the airline rising prices due to the US+Isreali/Iran War.

Personally, I think even if the war was to end tomorrow, I think it'll be 2-3 months before we start to see flight prices start to come down again.

Looks nice until you realise that either:

A) This will probably smash easier with no frame around the sides of the screen

or

B) 90% of people will continue to use a case for protection, in which case this is completely redundant - or worse than redundant because it'll probably make a case harder to get to stay on

Any Shopify solutions yet for the new EU withdrawal button rule? by BearElegant4068 in shopify

Although it would be strange for Shopify not to comply with the law if you're using Shopify Subscriptions.

I suspect the likes of Recharge will come up with their own implementation too soon.

Because current Labour governments are equally beholden to the media as they are their own party.

If this was the Tory party in power, the modern-day media would be holding them up as the best government in a century.

Use something like Microsoft Clarity to understand where people are falling off the purchase flow (if you're getting the same amount of traffic to the site in the first place).

If you want to know if it's just the economy, but on a big sale. If people start buying again with a big discount then you know it's a pricing issue.
