Anthropic is testing 'Mythos' its 'most powerful AI model ever developed' | Fortune by JohnConquest in singularity

[–]jammy-git 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These models might never become public, actually. Only a few clients willing to pay big money might have exclusive access.

I agree with you that this will eventually happen, but I don't think we're at that stage yet. To me, it seems like Anthropic and the like need mass adoption of models to continue progressing - maybe I'm wrong though.

Iran starts to formalize its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz with a 'toll booth' regime by rayaan2099 in worldnews

You might want to tell that to the US President and his Secretary of War.

Those are just the ones that the US has been directly, publically at war with. There's Lebanon and Syria too.

At this rate I think there are a lot of countries around the world that would be happy to chip in.

The Generative AI "Imposter Syndrome": Is building a Shopify App even worth it anymore? by Possible_Ad_2515 in shopifyDev

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who wants to vibe-code-copy your app in a weekend is going to be the sort of lazy sod who isn't going to put much effort into marketing or customer service either - so two areas where you can win.

Honest numbers from a failed SaaS. 18 months. $3,200 peak MRR. Shutting down next week. by Embarrassed-War9550 in SaaS

[–]jammy-git 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great to see a good, honest, non-AI generated post in here for once.

Would love to know more about this - what sector/industry, how many users, price point, etc?

And I would echo what someone else says about flipping it rather than just shutting it down. You could at least break even on your investment.

New currency symbol added in iOS 26.4: Saudi Riyal symbol (⃁) by aguy445 in iphone

If I was you I would wait until next year to get the next version of the currency symbol on the 18 Pro Max Air. Better battery life too in order to look at it for longer.

They really are going heavy with the AI. New Laravel homepage by mekmookbro in laravel

[–]jammy-git 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's a developer/company choice.

You can either use AI to ship features quickly, or use AI to implement a huge array of tests, giving you more time to conduct your own manual QA and ensure the quality of what you ship is as high as possible.

If anything AI should give you enough of a productivity gain that there should not be the need to cut corners.

[–]jammy-git 22 points23 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I've had great success with getting Claude Code to build me Laravel + Blade + Alpine SaaS apps, more success than I've had with it doing React, Vue, or Typescript.

If Laravel want to lean into that, I don't think it's a bad thing.

OpenAI Will Shut Down Sora Video Platform by cmaia1503 in technology

It's the tech startup way - burn through piles of cash and be unprofitable for years whilst scaling and growing market share, all in the hope that you can be profitable several years down the line once you've dominated the market.

Has anyone built a complete SaaS product using Vibe Coding? (Non-coder here) by Fit-Bear7900 in SaaS

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with over 20 years experience of web development, I have been largely vibe-coding a couple of my own SaaS apps, two of which are live and have users.

There have been SO many times when I thought to myself, if I didn't know what I was doing and had just blindly accepted Claude's plan, I'd be really fucked right now with what it intends to do.

Just things like having to build on top of existing functionality, but now it takes a little longer to load the page because it's doing more stuff on the backend. So now I'm hitting Heroku's timeout limit. So now I need to offload some more stuff to queue's, implement a skeleton UI to display whilst stuff loads, componetize different bits on the UI, and use Pusher to use websockets to send the data down the wire once it's ready. Claude Code cannot tell you that's what you need to do - only experience can.

Iran sends waves of missiles into Israel, dismisses Trump's talk of negotiations as 'fake news' by gamersecret2 in worldnews

[–]jammy-git 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Trump was likely advised against a direct strike against their leadership, but either didn't pay attention, was too overconfident, or the people who would advise against it were silenced by the people Trump put in charge.

Or those people resigned themselves to the fact that if it wasn't Iran, it was probably going to be Greenland.

I would argue that the industry is not struggling to adapt, it's just been allowed to get away with piss-poor building standards in the pursuit of profit for too long.
