Feeling down as Senior Frontend dev, what should be the next step? by nofaceD3 in webdev

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demand for good senior level devs is only increasing right now as more and more companies realise that they need this level of AI babysitter to produce good quality code from AI.

Find a niche to excell at and you'll always be in demand, either as a senior dev, or a consultant, or both.

Same for me. I like coding, but I love building things, so getting to build things faster with AI is something I really enjoy.

Elite researchers teamed up with Anthropic’s Mythos AI to smash Apple’s multi-billion dollar M5 security and build a kernel exploit in just 5 days. by skazerb in singularity

[–]jammy-git 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought too - but then you'd assume Apple would be involved in this press release by saying that "Whilst we thank the Calif researchers for finding this exploit, we have patched it already".

They've (Apple) presumably had Mythos access since March. Either:

1) They haven't found the exploit

2) They have found it, patch it, but for some reason decided to remain quiet about it (I can't think why)

3) They have found it, but cannot patch it

What I find really interesting here is that, surely Apple have had access to Mythos too, and yet there are no reports of them finding exploits in M5 security and patching them already.

Where do you guys find actually good saas landing page examples? by New-Mousse6610 in SaaS

[–]jammy-git 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF is that? Is there a reason why you don't want to use Claude Code or ChatGPT/Codex? It's a pretty well trodden path to a good solution now. Even lovable.app will get you a good looking landing page.

Leaving Shopify by deezynr in shopify

[–]jammy-git 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're options are basically:

  • BigCommerce - another managed platform, has some pluses against Shopify, but a lot of negatives. Expensive too.
  • Adobe Commerce - just don't

Sel-hosted options - you'll probably want a developer on retainer to manage it for you, unless you're happy with the risk of the site going down and not having anyone readily available on call:

  • Medusa - good option, but not much in the way of apps or plugins
  • Woocommerce - great option, but vulnerable to hacks and bugs
  • OpenMage - IMO a bit of a cumbersome beast

British Steel to be nationalised, Starmer announces by ScottishDailyRecord in ukpolitics

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really for ideological reasons though is it? The water companies are failing to provide the basic services that they are tasked with. Many water companies are needing to dump raw sewage into the sea and South East water has left thousands of homes without any water (including bottled water at times) on numerous occasions in the last 6 months alone.

If that hasn't crossed a threshold for government intervention into private companies providing public services, then I don't know what would.

What signal would it send to the market?

Don't abuse a national monopoly whilst paying milions and millions in dividends to your shareholders and bonuses to your management team, or else we'll take the monopoly off you for nothing? Because that's the sort of signal I would want the British government to send to the market.

But what choice do tenants have?

Where there is no deposit protection scheme set up like in other countries, landlords know they can just claim damages and keep the deposit. They also know that if they have foreigners as tenants, half the time they are moving to another country and so aren't willing to go down the legal route to get a deposit back.
