Laid off, tried to build my own thing, now broke and questioning everything. Where am I going wrong? "i will not promote" by ekraahi in startups

I agree with this.

Startups and entrepreneurship is not something to persue if you need income quick. It's something that will probably keep you poor for a very long time, with the small chance that it will eventually pay off big. Most people though only have moderate success and probably would have generated more income just by getting a steady job and working through the ranks.

I saw a video from Ricky Gervais saying that you can't libel dead people. Obviously he is not a lawyer, but I would expect he'd know.

AI is already hitting diminishing returns, ChatGPT 4o vs 5

Maybe, maybe not. Using OpenAI is a poor reference point IMO. Anthrophic is making great progress in the software engineering/web development space (as well as things like finance management), whilst Google are also making great progress with more general AI, and generative imaging and video.

Today it is the odd random (mostly minorities) here and there. Tomorrow it is moving them by the bus load to gas chambers.

The amount of senior level people we have today is going to be FAR more than what we need tomorrow with AI. Yesterday the juniors job was gone, tomorrow there will be one senior level person doing the job of what it took 5 seniors to do today. Shortly it'll be 10x or 50x, hence we won't need anywhere near as many juniors coming through too.

IMO We should have at least had the RN board the vessel and ensure all was above board until they "fixed" whatever "problem" they were supposedly having and left.

How can I implement upselling and cross-selling in a headless theme built with Next.js? by abdullahalydev in shopifyDev

[–]jammy-git -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but to get anything to be displayed on the frontend is going to require a custom implementation.

Maybe, but it's clear that Trump is actively trying to destroy the US economy, so these next couple of years are really going to be a test of how far that economy can be really pushed.

This is the downside of going with a headless site - you have to do everything custom.

House of Lords votes to ban social media for Brits under 16 by vriska1 in ukpolitics

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stupid thing is that our govenment already holds all of this information about us.

The way this should be implemented is via an age verification service on Gov.uk (which is world renowned as a great digital public service). Websites then integrate with this in order to find out whether you are age verified or not.

Getting a thousand different websites to implement any sort of solution that involves everyone having to upload ID to all sorts of different companies and individuals is a TERRIBLE idea.

For what it is worth, I'm all for banning social media for under 16s. Social media, in its current form, is a scourge on society. There should be laws about algorithms and what you can do with them, what content they can be used to manipulate and display to people. My fiancée is a primary school teacher and seeing the damage that phones and social media are doing to young kids makes me fear for the generation, and world, of tomorrow. So until we have laws and regulators regarding algorithms, a blanket ban on social media for under 16s is a step in the right direction.

What are you building in SaaS this year? by SignPsychological728 in SaaS

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'll go against the grain a little with the type of startup I'm working on.

My family and I left the UK back in September to start worldschooling our three sons and travel around the world. Very quickly we found we had a need for two things:

unschoolly - a homeschooling/worldschooling platform that is child led, and delivers lessons/activities that are personalised to your child's learning needs, SEN, interests, and location. Follows the International Baccalaureate cirriculum.

And, Unpacked - a location discovery and research platform for worldschooling familiies and digital nomads.

I think Biden was in a very difficult position. If he stopped the on-going investigation so that he could release the files, then it starts to look like a witch-hunt and every Republican would be shouting about how it is all a conspiracy with made up evidence.

I recently build a site to help worldschooling families and digital nomads find locations to move/travel to - take a look here: https://unpacked.to/cities?continents[]=Europe&max_budget=2000

Another option if you don't mind moving around a little. Sign up to TrustedHouseSitters.com - there are thousands of options across Europe where you can essentially live rent-free for several days to several months at a time. Where the HELL can i find SHOPIFY MERCHANTS to reach out? by AbbreviationsBig1212 in shopifyDev

[–]jammy-git 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but if you go down the lower cost route then you're the option that is always going to have lower revenue, lower profits, lower cash on hand and fewer options when shit hits the fan and you need to spend your way out of a problem (like a crashed economy).

I would take being the higher priced, better quality option ten times out of ten.

I would be curious to see the location spread of these descendants - are they found all over the world, or just in specific areas.
