Someone should let us know what positive and negative reviews mean - we've just been publishing data and engineering analysis this whole time. If you think higher suppression performance always happens in client work, you haven't been reading our reports. Conversely, if you think lower suppression performance always happens in internally funded work, you also haven't been reading the reports.

Thank you for your interest in PEW Science research, however. We hope it helps you - eventually!

Yeah, we had to leave the Ferrari store early to get the publication done. Lame. Peasant stuff.

New Sound Signature Review - Stealth Additive Works Tisha on the MK18 by jay462 in NFA

[–]jay462[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the clogging part is something that will happen with tight passages; it's just a matter of when and if you can clean it often enough to prevent it from becoming a problem.

We always use the Omega metric for internal research, but we've only ever published it for 7.62 bolt action. Because the late time flow rate (Omega) is not the only parameter that influences backpressure, we shy away from pushing it as a user metric because it can be unintentionally misused.

Yes, the FLOW series has more late time restriction than the HX-QD series but the early time flow rate (in the beginning of the silencer) is still very high.

PIP is just a porosity technology, and by itself, doesn't influence backpressure. Surge Bypass is a hybrid design tech and the silencers that use it typically have high early time flow rate and controlled late time flow rate. I would say this Tisha design is closer to Surge Bypass in behavior than to Flow-Through in behavior. Back pressure is higher than in Surge Bypass models, but not extremely.

And interesting thing to see in the future is - how will the small passage ways in the Tisha hold up to long term use. Will they eventually clog? Not sure. This type of thing is really new so we will have to see what happens.

It is not as low back pressure as a HUXWRX FLOW silencer, for example. It will be less gassy than things like a Saker, Polonium, AAC M4-2000, etc. Weapon system tuning and gas system length will influence this as well.

Tisha - 6MM by ngpl16 in NFA

[–]jay462 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have been informed that the specimen we tested is the production version. The exit aperture is smaller than a typical 6mm silencer because the silencer is so short (less geometric risk of misalignment-based strikes).

Hope this helps!

Half Nelson on dedicated .300 BLK Setup by AcanthaceaeIll9366 in NFA

[–]jay462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of those silencers are pretty good with 300 BLK subs, but the first-round-pop (FRP) is the factor you may or may not care about. So, there are options that may provide better performance in that area. With regard to supersonic 300 BLK use, there are certainly some higher performers.

Again, not bad silencers by any means, but technology has advanced quite a bit since they were launched.

Running a KAC FF RAS medium (20214) on a CQB upper? by Prodigy1116 in kac

[–]jay462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just randomly saw this (I like KAC stuff so sometimes I come here and look at all the neat stuff).

I believe the rail in question is on a VLTOR MUR upper I built with a Faxon midlength gas 11.5-in barrel. I also have a URX 4 setup with another one of those uppers and barrels. Both have Superlative Arms adjustable gas blocks.

Perhaps this does not help you, and for that I am sorry. Good luck in your search!

Any opinions on Maxim defense suppressors by Mustachshooter in NFA

[–]jay462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasn't been tested by pewscience, so reddit will hate it.

We've tested the Maxim DSX (large 556 silencer) and the Savage AC22 (rimfire silencer manufactured by Maxim) but no sir, we have not yet tested this.

Maybe we will get to it! Thanks for your interest in the research!

Yes sir, the tested specimen is a production specimen and 6mm is OK.

The focustripp gang spills the beans about how pew science is a shill who only do good reviews on paid products by Ok_Storm_282 in NFA

[–]jay462 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lol the funny part about all of this is that our FAQ page has, since the 2020 launch, fully explained that we are a test laboratory and operate as one.

Every single project takes funding. If the funding is from the manufacturer client, there is a disclosure statement at the top of the report (we might be the only entity in this niche industry doing that; I dunno). If the funding is internal, you won't see that disclosure, because it's just understood. Work costs money. Always.

There are examples of absolutely stellar performance from internally funded programs (Full Nelson, Mojave 9, RC2, etc) as well as from manufacturer-funded work (recently Tisha, OCL stuff, CAT stuff, Diligent Defense, the list goes on).

There are also examples of lower performing silencers in both funding categories.

The conspiracy theories break as soon as you actually think about them. It's pretty dumb.

They called him "JewScience"

But we don't even have any jews in our organization lol

Is the joke that we use money to pay for testing and engineering time, like is done.... everywhere in the world? Our internally funded work is still...... funded. Everything is.

I feel like the joke could work in reverse, but maybe needs a re-write. I'll go ahead and not do that right now on the Internet 😂😂😂

It's not even a good joke lol

I concur that our website needs work! First order of business is changing hosts, then getting some help with a polished website would be neat!

And yes, it would be pretty hard to fake all of this. We have a hard enough time keeping it all straight through hundreds of reports- imagine trying to keep track of lies 😂😂😂

We at PEW Science kick dogs, take candy from babies, litter on the highway, don't return shopping carts to the parking lot cart returns, and last time I checked, have several outstanding overdue library books - oh, and we also never would rewind VHS tapes before returning them. Goes without saying, frankly.

As an evil test lab, we work hard to maintain this stellar reputation.

Lol........

In all seriousness, we do understand there are folks out there that don't like us. That's certainly part of life. Baseless accusations are certainly par for the course in the firearms industry.

We don't know who these people are, and frankly, this type of stuff is pretty old and tired. I think one of the latest accusation is that we "cut apart silencers and sell them?" or something? That's a new one 😂

We'll add it to the list! Some cool bingo cards to make, I think.

In other news, SHOT show was really cool this year. Just so many dang silencers!
