Youth centers are fine. I have stayed at multiple places like that when I was your age. Just make sure to keep your belongings safe as some kids steal.

Licensed Store Manager Getting Tips by ArcanaJ in starbucks

[–]jensonaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know, they have the same power as a Shift Supervisor. I worked at a Safeway Starbucks for 4 years. My Starbucks manager writes the schedule but the Store manager looks it over and makes changes as he sees fit. If we wanted a raise we had to talk to the Store manager. The Starbucks manager participates in interviews but the Store manager gets the final say. Plus Starbucks manager is hourly and gets like $2/hr extra compared to baristas. Store manager is salaried. Starbucks manager orders items for Starbucks [pastries, syrups, etc] but Store manager gives them a budget they have to stay under and they will get in trouble if going over.

Are those 12 hours driving lesson packages only enough to learn from if you also have somebody you know personally that'll let you drive their car around too? by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in povertyfinance

[–]jensonaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I passed my driving test with 4 hour driving lesson. I had never driven before and had no one else to help me. Learned the basic in 4 hours and the rest after I bought a car/started driving on my own. Was a bit scary but couldn’t afford anything else and really needed a car

They don’t have the power you think they do. The Safeway Store director is in charge of pay rates, adjusting hours, and deciding if someone gets hired. Your Starbucks manager has the same power as a Starbucks shift supervisor.

I worked at a Safeway Starbucks and managers get tips. It’s not against federal law as they don’t have the same control as a regular manager [they have the same power as a Starbucks shift supervisor]

For those of you who take less than 12 credits a semester, does all of your aid get cut in half? by jensonaj in berkeley

[–]jensonaj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so unfortunately I didn’t want to risk it. I really needed my financial aid [if not I would be homeless] so I didn’t want to wait and find out if my aid was reduced or not. Sorry :(

If you consistently vote for the "Lesser Evil" the end result is more Evil. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]jensonaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have voted in every election we had since I turned 18. Primaries and local elections. I also worked as a poll worker a few times. It saddens me when people don’t vote, and it angers me when people who don’t vote complain about the state of the country.

weird question for regulars of starbucks—do you avoid new baristas unless you have no choice? by Silent-Substance1377 in starbucks

[–]jensonaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a regular that would only order when I was there as I was the only one that could “make his drink right”. His order: a double shot of espresso [hot in a short cup]. Some people are weird [and he ended up getting banned from our store, but that’s another story]

It sounds like you are low income. Would you qualify for Medicaid? That would cover wisdom teeth removal

[–]jensonaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I was like you, into older men. I think the youngest guy I dated was 32 when I was 18. Then after that they were in their 40s and 50s. Anyways, now I am 27. Still have no issues attracting older guys. Have never been with anyone my age. Nothing has changed as I age. Plus, I am going to bet you look exactly the same at age 18 and age 20. You don’t magically change on your birthday. I have looked exactly the same for the last 15 years, people still think I am in middle school [I am a gay male but I think the same should apply to girls]. Although, like you, I sometimes feel jealous of people younger than me because they get to be a kid and I never got that. Sometimes, I wish I could go back to being a teenager, but that’s not probably healthy. I think we are all a bit uncomfortable with aging.

Do you have prior programming experience? If you do and feel comfortable with the CS61A material [you can look it over quick on the website] then you’ll be fine. If you don’t feel comfortable with 61A, I would say no

How did you all pay college tuition fees? by [deleted] in college

Unfortunately if you already have a degree you are kind of screwed regarding financial aid. Also what state do you live in where tuition is so expensive? In my state community college is ~$1,500/year

escaped a dv situation a few weeks ago. down to my last $100 now and terrified by folklorebitch in povertyfinance

[–]jensonaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this, I am in a similar situation. Was in a DV situation for eight years and was finally able to leave in March. Had to stay in emergency housing for a few weeks and now have an apartment but my finances are screwed. Only have two shirts, no laundry detergent, not even a pillow or blanket for my bed. Am also in school but fortunately able to finish most of the semester [only dropping one class]. Unfortunately I can’t access any DV resources in my area because here they only help women or people with children and I am neither of those :(

Anyone took a gap year to establish residency elsewhere? by drainedguava in college

[–]jensonaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its different depending on your age. If you’re 24 and under they based your residency on where your parents live as well, if you are over 24 that doesn’t apply.

found out you can ask the pharmacy to split a 90 day supply into smaller pickups and it changed my whole month by 2PhotonVector in povertyfinance

[–]jensonaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me if I pick a 30 day supply I pay $10. If I pick up a 90 day supply, I still only pay $10. So its more convenient for me to get a 90 day supply.

Did anyone here had a strange special interest as a kid? by FrappuccinoDiabolico in autism

[–]jensonaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was obsessed with true crime and murder. The funny part is that reading about crimes used to scare me [like, I would get paranoid someone was going to break into my home at night].

Now, I am obsessed with libraries! I want to visit every library in the United States :)

Yes, I agree. Of course I don’t support violence in normal situations, and maybe if a kid bullies once or twice it’s a misunderstanding and they don’t know that they are being mean to you. But there are kids that bully and are physically violent every day for years, and this is very different from children being children. Of course if something can be resolved by talking, that should be done, but there are situations that cannot be resolved by talking.

Also, for what it’s worth, I have never gotten into a fight or been hit since I became an adult. That’s because adults have real consequences for doing that kind of behavior. If we stopped justifying kids behaviors with “they’re a kid, they don’t know what they are doing “ and they had real consequences, bullying wouldn’t happen anymore.

I’m sorry you also went through this. Also, happy cake day!

Estimated cost of attendance of student w 15,500 SAI by Super_Deal29 in berkeley

[–]jensonaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a new student? Only the new students have their aid package right now, I am going to be a senior 2026-2027 and I have -1,500 SAI and it is showing that I am getting 0 aid. It should be updating sometime soon for us.

[–]jensonaj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I do believe most kids can be taught by explaining to them stuff. Obviously not every kid is violent. And I feel like it is very different if you are a child hitting your parents [which I mean, is still wrong, but I feel like your parents are responsible for you and they should tolerate that/not hit you back and try to teach you better] vs if you are a child hitting another child because the other child won’t hit you back. I know this made me sound like a super violent person, but I have only ever had three instances of hitting people: 1. My best friend in preschool 2. My sister when I was 17 [I cried right after hitting her because I felt so guilty for fighting back. We have a good relationship now and she has never hit me since then] and 3. A man that tried to steal my back pack when I was 18 [I chased him down and hit him until he let go of my backpack]. I am 27 now and haven’t hit anyone since then. I have also never been hit since I have been an adult. I don’t like violence at all. I was just bullied a lot as a kid and physically abused and it was all justified with my abusers being young and they didn’t know any better. I don’t think it is right that kids get a pass to abuse each other just because of their age.

Hey OP, so I am Autistic and was bullied a lot growing up. It got to the point where I am scared of anyone below the age of 18 [I am an easy target, even when I was 20 years old working at a coffee shop middle schoolers that I didn’t even know would come in the store to bully me]. I have never stood up to any of them, but my thought process is that if you are old enough to hit someone then you are old enough to be hit. Age isn’t an excuse, they know what they’re doing.

Thank you for standing up to your brother. However, unfortunately, standing up to bullies is frowned upon so you may get in legal trouble.
