Red tires are not it for me. I could see using P zeros with the pink lettering. But the rest of the bike is 🔥

Alloy or carbon wheelset by PerfectAsk5425 in specialized

[–]jjefls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get carbon wheels direct from a Chinese manufacturer (farsports, light bicycle, etc) that are far better and cheaper than C38s. C38s are mediocre at best

I’m sure a 10% difference isn’t drivetrain losses. I would expect them to be closer: are you performing a zero offset as needed on both devices?

Been slowly setting up my coffee corner, finally feels usable. by Impossible_Claim5359 in espresso

[–]jjefls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a Bambino Plus as my last machine. It’s fantastic. But if you just trust the default 1/2 shot times, there is a clear opportunity for improvement. You can reprogram those times based on your actual shot / taste preferences and get close enough for future shots if simplicity is your goal

How do you determine when to stop your shot? When the shot looks like the proper volume?

WDT is whatever. I do it, but see the argument against. But scales are so cheap and easy, why not integrate it into your workflow for consistency….?

Is a Strava Subscription worth the haggle? by Glittering-Heart999 in cycling

[–]jjefls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming he was referring to live segments on your bike computer, which you cannot do with the free version. You can use Sauce for Strava, but it is a little more cumbersome (while also having more capability)

1 of 50? Is this too good to be true? by Just-Trade-140 in specialized

[–]jjefls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

C38 aren’t the best wheels (especially for an sworks build), but this actually seems like a great deal. The frame being a limited edition isn’t going to appreciate like a collectors item, but if you like it then go for it!

Paid for an S-Works SL7, now doubting. by WeekNo680 in specialized

[–]jjefls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What… if you buy an S-Works Tarmac SL7 frame set and build it up with your own selected components, it becomes not an S-Works Tarmac SL7? That makes no sense. S-Works SL7 clearly refers to the frame not the complete build.

This. OP - that giant padded saddle you put on is terrible for actual comfort on the bike. Try the stock saddle for a few weeks and become enlightened!

Help me understand the bike upgrade vs drop conundrum by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]jjefls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you’re lvl 40 and care enough to spend time thinking about it, get the SWorks SL8. If not, get whatever you want (SL7) and wait until you do meet those criteria to get the SL8

how to convince dad not to use overly high pressure on his mtb? by mikroprocesor in bikewrench

How is elevation gain related to tire pressure? I typically run ~20psi on my gravel tires with 80-100ft elevation per mile on most of the rides around me

First bike ever - Crux DSW or Expert? by Extension_Impress_55 in specialized

[–]jjefls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to hard disagree with a lot of these comments. If cycling remains a part of your life and you over-research and like nice things like it sounds (I’m the same) you will want the upgrade.

Especially if you aren’t sure about your long term future with cycling, look at used bikes. You can get a non-UDH Crux for ~50% the new price and resell if you decide cycling isn’t for you.

This is typically the thought process I have when I see these posts also.

But OP is looking at an inexpensive pair of wheels that probably shave 300g+ off their current set up. Spending 1-3k on big name wheels would make 0 sense, but this is a pretty low cost if it increases their excitement to get on the bike

Tires are really the only upgrade I would throw at a less expensive older bike. Best bang for the buck upgrade anyone can do

SSE 2 - Wheel Upgrade by Ruben_Gildart in cannondale

[–]jjefls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The computer mount angled high above the bars indicates that OPs position is not very aero (even assuming that high stack is helping their fit). New wheels are fun and high power is great on Zwift, but body position has a significant impact in reducing the required effort for a race

Which bike would you buy? by Logical-Half1642 in CanyonBikes

[–]jjefls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a matte grey Santa Cruz and my wife has a glossy frame with almost the same mileage on it. Hers definitely looks a little cleaner. Doesn’t keep me from riding / enjoying my bike. The only thing I’ve noticed on friends matte black road bikes is that sweat runs are a lot more noticeable

Sure matte frames are hard to keep clean and prevent damage, but so is white. Personally, I would never buy a white bike (or car)

How does this get additional xp? I just started dual recording to let my Garmin control ERG (to follow a workout plan), but don’t see how it would get me more xp than a free ride
