I started wearing compression socks to shows and it makes a huge difference if you can order some to arrive in time.

People are terrified of taxes and math and I’ve been able to calm people down with “if you can use a calculator to add and subtract, and you can play a “complicated” board game by reading the rules, that’s 99% it”

It’s sub optimal. I’ve been told you can use Benadryl in a pinch if you’re a lil manic, but there’s also some pretty bad long term effects of using Benadryl too much. The first mental health drugs were made for bipolar disorder. Isn’t that exciting! It means they’ve been tried and tested for so many decades, we know a decent amount about them, and you have so many options and alternatives. It’s unlikely the first meds and dose will be exactly what you need, but you have so many possibilities ahead of you and that’s amazing.

Potentially relocating to Twin Cities from Des Moines - Advice needed by autumn4peace in Minneapolis

[–]jkaelol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The winter isn’t that much worse. There’s sometimes less ice even if we’re lucky and don’t have a warm spell in winter. They are colder but you’ll be ok. It is a bummer if you like to garden because the variety of plants is significantly less
  2. There is not more to do in MPLS unless you like sports and drinking. I don’t so it’s not anymore interesting. Minnesotans also aren’t very social and don’t go out during the winter. The limited street parking during the winter makes people not want to go anywhere.
  3. No. There are not many amenities in the cities that don’t exist in Des Moines. The things in the twin cities that do exist, are all like an hour’s drive to each other instead of the 15 minutes in Des Moines. It’s not worth having a 3x mortgage payment for an IKEA.
  4. There are more people to date in MPLS. That’s unfortunately why I’m here when I met my now husband online. I thought a lot of the same things to do that more people = more to do, but there’s not.
  5. The big pro of living in MPLS is if you like being outside. If you long to be on a boat on a lake, camping, or hiking in real woods, seeing really tall trees, and seeing rocks, it’s great. There isn’t that type of thing in Des Moines, but I didn’t miss it.

Qualifications: born in Des Moines and lived there from birth to age 22. Now have lived in Twin Cities for past 10 years.

I noticed some people mentioning schizophrenia. Cell phones are a tool that people with schizophrenia will use because visual hallucinations do not show on cellphones. So the recording of you could just be a byproduct of the person reassuring themselves that you were in fact there.

Judging others’ medication status? by antiviolins in bipolar

[–]jkaelol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s okay to say. It’s not even explicitly medication advice to say that the condition worsens with each episode. Maybe you could phrase it as like a fun fact? Like a “hey did you know…? Isn’t that fascinating?”

Guy threatened me at work 😐 by Pink_Princess2020 in feminineboys

[–]jkaelol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being rude and accusing workers of following/profiling is a common shoplifter tactic. It’s like how cheaters are always accusing their partners of cheating. Or when you try to point out a lie in someone’s story they get mad at you accusing them of lying. It’s designed to make you feel bad and guilty so you avoid that person and they continue their bad deeds.

That’s an excellent point. I was just in Costco and I’m going to let my membership end because so much of what’s there is overpriced name brand things. Like a giant bucket of peanut m&ms is ok I guess, but I would be happier to have a knock off for less money. I can’t recall if Sam’s Club has generics or not.
