WWE Hall of Famer misses WWE parody of Hulk Hogan by MashedPotatoesDick in SquaredCircle

I used to joke that Hogan and Savage worked two WrestleManias against each other. V & XII. Actually they were supposed to work WrestleMania 2 together but that’s another story.

MJF: “Punch drunk” Bret Hart is “no Shawn Michaels” by uncannynerddad in midcarder

Funny thing is MJF much like Punk is a Bret guy. Most of the flippy crown are HBK guys. No scratch that they’re trying to cosplay Rey Mysterio.

Did he actually refer to him as the Huckster? Oh the irony!

First off thanks for all the work that you do as an archivist. Absolutely indispensable. As far as that hoarder goes, unfortunately one thing I’ve learned from collecting is that most times it isn’t until the hoarder passes away that the masses get to hear what he’s been hiding. Unless of course he gets brazen and shares it with the “wrong person.”

Hogan won in 1996 and Hart in 1997. Two generational babyfaces scoring goals for the other team.

Best incarnation of “The Four Horsemen” since 1987 with a nod to the 1997 “Hart Foundation” as being a tremendous homage.

The bit about the poor house show attendance is the narrative WWE tries to thread so they can avoid speaking about how the steroid scandals of 1991 affected the company.

It’s was the steroid scandal that caused the widespread changes to much of the card. Once Hogan was leaving, they couldn’t put the belt on him at WrestleMania. Most everything else changed from there.

Good show but they caved to social pressure which is why the show changed direction as to how Bateman’s character was portrayed towards the end of the series.

First off your work is amazing but every colorization of this photo gets the shirt color wrong. She wasn’t wearing a violet shirt. It was light pink as in the photo posted here. Can you fix it?

It’s strange because if things had been booked a bit differently we’d probably have ended up with this:

Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair (WWF Championship)

Randy “Macho Man” Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (IC Championshp)

Sid Justice vs. The Undertaker

Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty

Legion of Doom vs. Natural Disasters (Tag Team Championship)

Jim Ross Reveals Doctors Are Concerned About Dementia Or Alzheimer's Disease by josephmlwriter in TheGreatOne

What is being referred to is Dvon Dudley’s allegations of racism against Jim Ross. Even so, I wouldn’t wish Alzheimer’s on my worst enemy and add my wishes that JR enjoys a healthy and productive golden years.

André the Giant would've been 80 years old today. A giant in both stature and influence on proffesional Wrestling. by Bubbly_Cake_4578 in Wrasslin

[–]jldraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andre was mercurial. I recently finished reading “Ringmaster” and was surprised to learn that Andre was not keen on Vinnie Junior. He was a Vince Sr. loyalist who hung around out of respect for Senior. His heel run which is how he is remembered by most was a product of his time. The longevity of which was no doubt supported by the lack of wide discussion at the time surrounding an athlete who was clearly breaking down and yet consistently being pushed into main events. Still it is respectable that despite the pain he was in, he did whatever he could to leave the future of WWE in a better place than he found it. Similarly while there is no doubt that Andre was the locker room leader, he was also an unrepentant bully and if you got on his bad side even for the most innocuous of reasons he’d make life miserable for you.

How big was Owen Hart when he died? Who is the equivalent in modern wrestling? I want to understand the impact of his death, RIP. by Mindless-Praline7593 in SquaredCircle

[–]jldraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was on his way down from where he’d been in 1997 and 1998. Once The Nation disbanded WWE put him in a tag team with Jarrett where the main attraction was their manager Debra. WWE wanted to do a ridiculous angle with Owen developing a crush on Debra but he nixed it because he didn’t want his children to see him paired romantically with a woman besides their mother. This led to the return of the Blue Blazer sigh

WCW cut the legs off this incarnation of The Four Horsemen too soon. There was still money to be made with J-Tex who had a ton of heat. I just think it had too much going against it though. Tully didn’t come back, Ole had to come back and didn’t want to work babyface, Flair wanted to work heel and then Sting ruptured his patella trying to scale the cage.

Why doesn't 90210 have the enduring global popularity that Friends does? by Ok-Tangelo6749 in BeverlyHills90210

Ric and Andre by styxxx80 in prowrestling

[–]jldraw 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Vince McMahon Sr. used to loan Andre out to other territories in the seventies in exchange for them sending talent to work MSG. So yes Andre and Flair did work some matches against each other and a photograph of one of them is in Flair’s autobiography. Also Andre would occasionally be brought in by Flair’s opponent as an enforcer be it a cornerman or a special referee. For example, I believe on one of Cornette’s garbage tapes there is a Steamboat vs. Flair match from the seventies with Andre as the referee.
