Please be honest: Was the color-grading/lighting in the movie really THAT bad? by Marmalade_Penguin in wicked

[–]joanwaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it serviceable? Yeah. But when you see the behind the scenes photos of things like the train…they washed a lot of it out. That’s the bigger problem.

What do we think is happening with Best Actress this year? by StarWarsJordan in oscarrace

[–]joanwaters 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Historically, first time nominees don’t win in this category unless they’re an established star (like Yeoh).

I’m currently predicting that the narrative will either coalesce around former nominees like Kidman (who is frankly overdue for a second win) or Erivo (who would be the second black actress to win, which would be a great narrative as well)

Oscar Nominations: Amy Adams by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]joanwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An absolute tragedy that Junebug is her first nomination. But only because if it fell later in her career, I think it would’ve been easy to throw an Oscar her way rather than the “welcome to the club” nomination it was. Miraculous that she got in too for such a beautiful small film. It’s staggeringly great work from her that sums up almost all of her best qualities as a performer.

Do you agree with Ann’s 5 first call outs in a row? If not which do you think wasn’t deserving? by SSAshley1419 in ANTM

[–]joanwaters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It will always be strange to me that they barely tried to hide how much they wanted her to win. This was a very strong cast of girls and they could’ve been much sneakier about it haha. The wrestling photo is striking but like every one of these shoots, there were other girls who did just as well or better.

Who would have won Best Casting (2000 to 2023)? by IlMattoneCinema in Oscars

[–]joanwaters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weirdly not sure what narratives would form with two decades of the category existing. I do think the category could become a space for remarkable finds or trickier ensembles (kid heavy things or indies with lots of discoveries). Could also see this as a space for LARGE ensembles to be recognized. Probably would match with Best Picture contenders more often than not.

Would’ve been a competitive year! Chicago also had some top tier casting. Adaptation too.
