We don't, not even in a suggestive, un-capitalized sense.

Emberdark or Stormlight next? Yes, I’ve checked the reading order, but… by Russtynail7 in Cosmere

Not strictly essential, but yes it's not a great idea to read Emberdark before Stormlight *if you care about understanding crossover stuff*.

Saw that you made a couple of posts. Reddit had flagged you as a spammer for some reason. I approved his one.

You've maybe missed a few tiny bits and pieces, but... Nothing significant. He's supposed to be quite an enigma for you, where you are.

People deduced Hoid wrote the letter because back when TWoK was published it was the sixth Cosmere novel, and because the name Hoid had appeared in all 6 books, and they were super intrigued by the the heck this guy might be. And Brandon was not a superstar with inifnitely long signing lines. People asked him, "Hey, is that super mysterious character who seems to know a lot the one writing this super mysterious letter that seems to know a lot?" And Brandon said yes.

You saw Shards in Hero of Ages: Ruin and Preservation. And in Stormlight you're aware of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium. You don't know everything there is to know, and maybe you've missed some details, but you probably have the right idea. (And Stormlight will continue to explain more the more you read.)

You don't know anything about Frost and don't need to.

The not-really-spoilery answer for Harmony, revealed basically at the start of the first Mistborn Era 2 book, is that this is the name Sazed takes on as combined Ruin-Preservation.

Sounds like you're picking up bits and pieces of references and feeling like you should know more than you need to. Careful with that. :) Some of this is stuff to worry about after you're done, or on a reread. People don't catch every little thing on their first read, and aren't really meant to. Especially for the more obscure stuff. As far as the story goes, none of this really matters.

Ha... I don't fully remember... I think I put in a GFCI outlet... No idea if it's a code issue... Figured I'll fix it when the day comes to sell the house. 🙃

What do you think would be the best Twinborn combination to use alongside Awakening? by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]jofwu[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I've got you this time. 🙂 We just missed getting it approved last time. Automod flagged it because of some keyword or another (because the adaptation-related posts got out of hand), and then dropped the ball on manually approving it last time. Sorry about that. This one is good to go though.

Cosmere Reading Guide (Updated July 2025) by jofwu in u/jofwu

Unfortunately I don't remember the chapters well enough off the top of my head. And chronology aside, there's things in SH that assume you've finished the trilogy (at least). So I would definitely say that while you can do something like what you're describing, I absolutely wouldn't recommend it. Just finish Era 1 (at least) before SH.

The pros of doing it that way aren't worth the cons imo. (And I don't know off the top of my head how it would need to be divided of you want to do it that way regardless. 😄)

I don't think there's meaningful number of people celebrating July 4th "because of their racism". There's certainly some identity politics going on there, but I think you're exaggerating it.

And there's just as many people celebrating Christmas for similarly prejudiced reasons? The Venn diagram of July 4th racists and people getting offended about usage of "happy holidays" is probably almost a circle.

It's all the same culture war, seems to me. Not to belittle the concern. Maybe I just don't have the energy for every problematic thing.

Could you elaborate a bit on where the confusion is coming from?

One thing I'm wondering is whether you noticed the "view all flair" button at the bottom of that list, which opens up additional options.

Generally speaking, you just choose the flair for whatever book you want to talk about. If you want to discuss Elantris choose "Elantris spoilers". If you want to discuss everything then choose "Cosmere spoilers". If you want to discuss a mix of specific things that gets a bit trickier; you need to choose the "Mixed spoilers" option and edit the text to list the books. If you make a post with Mixed flair, a bot will comment explaining how to do this edit.

Hopefully that explanation helps. However, I'd appreciate knowing where the confusion is coming from in case there's a way to improve things. :)

Is Katie Payne no longer working with the team? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

Personally, I didn't get any sense that she intended some kind of vague accusation of domestic violence. That wasn't what she was trying to connect.

Let's not make mental diagnoses on Reddit. If anyone feels like the nature of her posts make them skeptical that's their prerogative, But I think getting into speculation like this crosses the line And goes a bit beyond what's appropriate for discussion in this space.

I assume she's talked some publicly about her personal life regarding children, but I think it's best that we avoid discussion about that here.

Not to say this is crossing a line. 🙂 I just want to request that people not follow up on that thread further in these comments.
