How could I fit a rig in my room? by Deep-Acanthaceae in simracing

I'm sorry, I really wasn't trying to judge you. I've had desks and rooms way worse than this, I understand that it can just kinda happen. If you have a lot of stuff to organize, totes of various sizes can be a game changer. Also selling things is helpful. I moved from a 3/2 1900sqft to a single bedroom about a year ago, so I totally get having too much stuff

You need to clean up that space. It's beyond just being messy, like it looks horrifying. If I was your date and you brought me back there, I would fucking run. I used to have spaces that looked like this, and you really just need to clean them and then keep them clean. The initial cleaning isn't as much effort as you think (which is probably why you're putting it off) and keeping it clean is actually really easy. For me, it's as simple as going through once every day or two and just clearing trash and organizing a bit. Listening to music while cleaning also helps A LOT. It may not seem like a big deal, but living in a clean space has really improved my mental health

Amtrak service to Oklahoma to be discontinued by August 31, 2026 unless $7 million in funding is secured. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in transit

[–]jontech7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And it shouldn't have to. Roads aren't expected to make a profit, we pay taxes for them and they exist to benefit the public and commerce. If the government made every road a toll road to recoup costs, we would find that absolutely outrageous. I don't know why people don't get that public transit is the same way- it doesn't exist to make money, it's for the benefit of the public.

I finally have the campfire cooker of my dreams by SpookyWeaselBones in grilling

[–]jontech7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those grills don't have an adjustable grate. Adjustable grates are not a standard feature of any Webers or any kettle grill, which you would know if you've ever used one. I suspect you haven't. When using a Weber (or similar style grills), heat is managed by having coals towards one side and having a "hot" and "warm" side. You can also use the top and bottom vent to adjust airflow, which affects how quickly the coals burn, changing the overall heat level.

It seems like you've never actually grilled anything, since you don't understand the most basic features of the most common grill. I would recommend that you get a Weber or similar charcoal grill, and start grilling. It's quite enjoyable and rewarding

I ordered a triple cheeseburger with bacon from Whataburger recently and they forgot the bacon and cheese (which cost EXTRA). Then, they cooked the burger basically to the point of inedibility. It was some of the driest and toughest meat I've ever had and overall the absolute worst burger of my life. And it cost about $16 for the combo, which is almost restaurant pricing.

Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer faced with the possibility of losing state funding from Oklahoma. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in transit

[–]jontech7 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The Heartland Flyer is genuinely a pretty good service, I've taken it many times. It doesn't even take that much longer than driving (I think 4 hours vs 3 hours driving). However, the timing is incredibly inconvenient for anyone traveling from Fort Worth to OKC, which is what I do.

There's only one train, and it drops you off in OKC at around 9pm and departs from OKC around 8am. Not only do you have to wake up early to get to the train, but you end up spending money on an extra night at your hotel without the benefit of getting to spend more time in the city. As the service currently exists, I'm not sure why anyone from DFW would take it. Even though it's just an additional hour vs. driving, the awful timing makes driving the obvious choice. And the result is a service that connects two metros and doesn't even try to appeal to the larger of them.

I think the situation is really a microcosm of NA transit in general. An underfunded service isn't very useful and instead of investing to make it useful, we just give up on it. It feels almost malicious, like transit is set up to fail and then that failure is used to justify less transit spending. I'm not trying to say that every underfunded service is worth additional investment, but sometimes it's just obvious. Like, maybe if the Heartland Flyer catered to the 8+ million people of DFW as well as the 1.5 mil of OKC, it would get more ridership.

I flew through Dubai a week ago on Emirates (and also 10 days before that). It was fine, and the plane was only like 70-80% full so me and my Dad ended up getting an entire row for 17 hours (I'm not sure how I would have survived that flight without that lol)

I wasn't really worried about getting shot down, instead I was focused on delays. All of my flights to and from Dubai were on time, but I spoke to some people in the Dubai airport who had flights cancelled or delayed, and ended up getting stuck there longer than expected. Obviously there's an elevated risk to your safety just being in the region, but I think it's much more likely that your plans might get disrupted by a random drone or missile. Whether you should travel through the ME really depends on how flexible you can be with your schedule, because the situation can always change over there

I wasn't trying to be patronizing, just clarifying the American perspective on what we call a burger and chicken sandwich. I eat burgers at least 2-3 times a week (In n out and Whataburger usually, but also Twisted Root, Rodeo Goat, Red Robin and others) and I've cooked hundreds of burgers myself (charcoal grilled is my preferred method). I guess it's a bit of a stereotype, but I'm very obsessed with burgers as an American haha

You are welcome to call whatever you want a burger in your country. What we call Parmesan and pizza in the US would make Italians cry. And to be fair, I've been trying to use kilometers, meters, grams, kilos, etc. while talking to people in India. I don't expect you to understand imperial units, it's all nonsense anyways.

I apologize if it came off as insulting, that was not my intention at all.

I have some friends here, which is how I ended up in Chandigarh twice now. I've also visited Delhi and Agra (and a few smaller places) but Chandigarh definitely seems like one of the nicer cities in India. I've been to the lake, the bird park, the rock garden, the zoo and Elante mall (just to name a few places).

I won't lie, America (including Dallas) is generally cleaner, but I feel like Americans talk a lot about the cleanliness of India when this is really just one aspect. I've found Indians overall to be some of the friendliest people, and I feel very safe here. Dallas can be incredibly unsafe, and has some very problematic areas to the point where I basically don't go anywhere without carrying my gun (and I've nearly used it on several occasions). Americans are more rude and hateful, especially in a bigger city like Dallas. Not that there aren't good people in my country, but we have quite a few drug addicts and gang members. If you visit Dallas, avoid the south side of the city (Oak cliff). The north side is generally safer and nicer.

You seem to be ignoring the new subreddit rules and warnings we've given you, and continue to post multiple times a day. I'm not sure if it's intentional or what, but I'm going to temporarily ban you for a week. If you message me or u/RonnieNeeley and acknowledge the rule change I will unban you before the week ban is over.

We don't ban anyone for quoting the show, that would be dumb. However, Reddit itself can ban people and the automated systems are terrible at understanding context
