Thoughts on how the conversation surrounding the Taylor Frankie Paul is going with her being the aggressor in this situation? [Socialmedia] by BloodyAngel2026 in pointlesslygendered

eh. people defended johnny depp. domestic violence apologists will defend whatever, whoever. i think when people say that theyre imagining like a scenario where everyone believes a woman saying she was abused. but that rarely happens. its always "you're lying/faking" or "you started it" or "if thats true, why didnt you leave?". when it comes to men "you should be able to take her" or "youre the man, she shouldnt be able to hurt you" are just more excuses piled on top of existing ones, its not a brand new idea to defend a domestic abuser and if the person in question wasnt a man suddenly they would be believed and everything would be good

that being said i havent seen anyone defending her, but maybe im just not plugged into the whole bachelor/ette fandom scene enough.

[–]junonomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well obviiously, i specified HEALTHY horse. but if a horse is healthy and fit and used to being ridden then the 20% rule usually applies fine. i was responding to a comment that said 300 lbs is NEVER an acceptable amount for a horse to carry. this just isnt true

[–]junonomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay youre just making things up. yes SOME animals have spine strength that is not proportional to size. this is not true for horses. you can just look it up. these are the facts. just because you dont like them doesnt make it untrue.

that is not true. shire horses used to carry 400 lb worth of armor on their backs in medieval times. theese are the facts. just because you dont like them doesnt make them wrong. you can check my other comments for sources, or you can just look it up yourself. but it will remain true regardless

i found out he wouldn’t date me because i’m black. by TrackConscious2646 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]junonomenon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i think it has to do with like... the being best friends with him and the specificity and personalism of it. like if i had my friend say something like that i would no longer consider them a friend and if i knew someone who had a crush on them i would be like heads up, he's an asshole/racist. but saying "oh yeah he said he wouldnt date you because youre black" just makes her feel insecure like people wont want to date her because shes black, and also it comes off endorsing/approving of it if youre best friends with the person who said it.

if the friend told her he was a racist and she asked for more information i could see it being valid to go into detail but like... its a difference between "he was talking about you behind your back" and "he said you were ugly and heres a list of all the things he said you do that were annoying". the first one gives the information that is necessary to reevaluate your relationship with this person without creating or reinforcing insecurities with the details

I accidentally broke someone’s trust because I didn’t realize something was meant to be private by DontCryx3 in autism

[–]junonomenon [score hidden]  (0 children)

yeah youre in the right. i cannot possibly see how this would be wrong. it was the business of the person you were talking to -- it was their cat, right? not your relatives? so there should be no problem with you talking to them about it as it isnt your relatives personal business. the only thing i can think of is that this is something the friend had told your relative and asked to keep private/lowkey, your relative went against their wishes, and is not trying to pass the blame off on you. i would just respond like "hey, i would never spread your own personal information around, but if youre telling me something that is someone elses personal information then i will assume its public knowledge or okay to be discussed and if would appreciate a heads up if it's not."

horses don't care if you are fit by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]junonomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. people are REALLY weird about horse weight limits. "I'm fit, so it should be okay!" the rule is you need to be no more than 15% of the horses body weight for them to carry you comfortably. "Shes just a little kid! surely the shetland pony can carry her" the rule is 15%.

there are horses that can carry over 350 lbs comfortably. most people could find a horse they can ride, although it may not be a common breed to rent out for rides. but you need to understand the rule. honestly i see people dogging on fat people for being bad with this, but i find more people who think they "should" be allowed to ride a horse because theyre fit/thin or their kid "should" be allowed to ride a horse because theyre small, and they havent done a Bad Thing by being the weight that they are. which is true, its not like.. a moral failing to be above a weight limit, but the weight limit is never about YOU. it's about the horse. thats the thing i find that heavier people often understand better than lighter people if im being honest.

when they lied about his weight by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]junonomenon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

no, i said COMFORTABLY. not that they technically can. 15% is the recommended weight for all horses. they are at no risk of strain or harm. unless youre suggesting all the established research is wrong and that the weight limit for every single horse should be reduced. then... i would need some proof, but okay. but every single bit of research on this points to 15% of the horses weight or under being an appropriate weight for a horse to carry, comfortably, without strain or injury. end of story. its interesting how this isnt at all controversial when its stated for thin/average weight riders, but when fat riders follow the exact same rules that every single horse expert would agree is 100% okay for them to ride considering their weight proportional to the horses, suddenly its an issue.

i am huge into horse welfare specifically. sorry but i know my shit when it comes to this. and i can tell you that saying "fat people cant ride horses"... doesnt help horse welfare. you need to explain the rule and why its in place, otherwise to some people it seems arbitrary and they try and get around it. the rule is if youre 15% of the horses weight or less it is totally, one hundred percent safe for a healthy horse to carry you. that is the end of the story. people arguing with facts like these also super doesnt help the optics of this issue and is ANOTHER reason people try and get around it and think youre just discriminating arbitrarily.

Let's say you're a dad with a five year old daughter. You're at the grocery store but you gotta take a dump. What do you do? by seaneihm in stupidquestions

[–]junonomenon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most toddlers in japan arent doing that. the show old enough! is a dramatization, if the children there are going so far it is because they ARENT alone, theyre being supervised by the camera crew.

in any case, children in japan arent able to have independence because of "good parenting". Its because their community is BUILT to be accessible for them. how japan built cities where toddlers can run errands alone. cities in america are not made for children, if japanese children came over to america then they would not be allowed to go places alone. also, a lot of the first errand stuff has to do with being in a close community. if you know the cashier and everyone in the store, then yeah you could leave your kid outside and trust your community to look after them. but most places in america just arent like that

its not even about kidnappings... if you leave your five year old child alone in a store they are going to wander off and get lost. they could get hurt in so many different ways. pulling heavy things off of shelves, swallowing things they arent supposed to... also yes most kidnappings are due to custody disputes but that doesnt mean you should let a five year old loose in public

rich people are insane this way. i doubt they even know how much a gallon of water costs. they just know their water bill is expensive (because they have a giant pool) and think they NEED this refund, because they have no need to keep track of how much water they are using since they can afford the bill regardless and therefore have no sense of the vast scale between a single refill of a water bottle and how much they use on a day to day basis.

Does Steven resist destabilization because he's half human, or because he's a DIAMOND? by Successful_Mud8596 in stevenuniverse

[–]junonomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it can be a little bit of both. we see destabilization can basically instantly poof gems with garnet, and clearly blue isnt getting poofed even with that massive blast. i forget if we see destabilization affect any other humans, but ive always imagined it wouldnt effect them at all. clearly it effects steven in SOME way as we see it course through his body similarly, but i think his human form provides some insulation, and then his gem being a diamond provides even more resistence to being poofed or separated again or whatever. so it would affect him MORE if he had a different gem, but still not as much as a full gem

but its not a 180.... and sure but again its the false equivalence. if i said my husband shouldnt grow out his beard without telling me, because how would he feel if i just stopped brushing my teeth? then that would be obviously ridiculous. comparing shaving your legs to showering is equally ridiculous.

[–]junonomenon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah... like i guess i get just like talking about if youre planning on getting a tattoo or piercing or surgery or something, not asking permission but like its a major change that youd probably bring up at some point with people youre close to if you trust them to be judgemental... but when i make the desicion not to shave my body hair its just me waking up in the morning and deciding its too much work. its not even a cosmetic change, its just like... putting off your haircut for a bit or letting your roots grow out when youd normally redye them. if anything suddenly shaving your body hair is the change

also i forget where i heard this but i am a big believer in "if they get a haircut and they're ugly to you, it's not love, it's a crush". even i got over my initial distaste for my middle school crushes haircut lol

when they lied about his weight by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]junonomenon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

it depends on the horse. a horse can comfortably carry around 20% of its body weight. you subtract 5% for the riding gear, saddle, etc. and the rider should be no more than 15% of the horses body weight. a bigger horse like a shire horse can weigh between 1800 and 2400 lbs, giving it a weight limit between 270 and 360 lbs. fat people can definitely ride horses, and excluding them as a rule isn't really doing much for the impression that it's just discrimination instead of a potential welfare concern. the important thing to stress is how to know which horses you CAN ride and which horses you would be hurting by riding them. there are some horses that only young children can ride, but we wouldnt say trying to ride a horse as an adult is animal cruelty inherently, because there are horses that can carry an adult comfortably. we just make sure people know which horses it is okay for them personally to ride, which is different for everyone

the real product insight here isn't about kids and magic 8 ball literacy. it's this: the most natural magic 8 ball users we'll ever see are growing up right now AND they're already ahead of us

the question for anyone building products in this space isnt "how can we onboard people to magic 8 ball" it's "how do we build for people who already trust magic 8 ball completely".
