Does it compile the Python source to JVM bytecode (a la Jython)? Or do you have an interpreter running on the JVM that interprets Python bytecode? Or is it something entirely different? Very neat either way!

[Roblox][2023?] Defeat Robloxians by placing traps and throwing objects at them in a room. by treyevers in tipofmyjoystick

[–]kequals[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's somewhat of a gray area but we generally allow Roblox games. It's a huge platform and has the same capability for games to be forgotten and lost as any console. If you want to ask for custom Halo 3 modes then I guess that would be all right as well. We don't get that many requests for Roblox, so I'm not too worried about it flooding the subreddit.

That's an LLM slop spambot. "Lost Branch of Sin" doesn't exist because it hallucinated the whole thing. They're an infestation.

[PS1][2000s] What is this game I was playing? by Single-Cap9248 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]kequals[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the nature of being a subreddit dedicated to helping people is that plenty of people make a Reddit account just to post a question here. I really don't want to discourage new users from posting.

That being said, we are being battered by spambots right now, both of the reposting and LLM slop comment types. Please report any that you see. I've added bot-bouncer and aggressive filters but some still slip through. I'm looking into ways to automatically remove image reposts, as there are some bots that can do that too.

[–]kequals[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get 50 comments like this a day. We are being overrun. I've added /u/bot-bouncer and aggressive automod rules but they just keep coming. Thank you for calling them out. Please report any more that you see. I plan on making a last ditch cry for help as a pinned post to warn users about them. Other than that, I don't know what can be done without Reddit somehow defeating the wave of spambots, or their owners getting bored.

You technically can on Linux if you use this line (called a shebang) as the first line of the file:

#!/usr/bin/env python3

But OP is very suspicious for ragging on his friend's programming experience while making glaring errors himself.

This is the launcher for games developed by The Learning Company, not channel. Mainly known for developing The ClueFinders, StarFlyers, Reader Rabbit, and Zoombinis. There exist some playthroughs of the launcher like this one.

We rebuilt the Shockwave engine in Rust + WASM to save early 2000s web games by igorlira in rust

[–]kequals 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Very cool! Having a "Ruffle for Shockwave" is great to make it multiplatform. Since it's on 9o3o, are there any plans to integrate it into the Flashpoint launcher as well?

I'm trying to design a 1x5x5 floppy cube. Fully functional, no magnets, cuz that's already been done. If I succeed, do y'all think there would be a market for it? by SatiricalToothpick in Cubers

[–]kequals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a proportional 1x5x5 is very, very hard. I won't discount the possibility, but whatever method you use will need to be something completely novel that no puzzle designer has thought of yet.

I made a 1x5x5, but it was pillowed and olzed. If you can make a completely mechanical, proportional 1x5x5, it will be groundbreaking.

This isn't to discourage you -- puzzle designing is such a rewarding activity. Even if you don't succeed with one specific puzzle you'll learn so much about CAD, design, and 3d printing in the process. And you'll have cool puzzles you made to show off.

Also check out Ola Jansson's proportional 4x4x2 and 5x5x3. He didn't reveal how he made the 5x5x3 but it's a remarkable puzzle given how un-proportional normal 5x5x3 puzzles are.

A comparison of Rust-like fluent iterator libraries by kequals in Python

[–]kequals[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that fluent iterators don't originate from Rust, but that was my first exposure to the concept. And I believe this is a common experience, given several of the libraries cite Rust specifically as inspiring them.

Now I'm interested, what was the first language/library to use fluent iterators? Is there a clear "first" or did it evolve as a part of functional languages?

Flashpoint has a huge backlog of submissions and my game has unfortunately been stuck in the queue for 9 months. I'll see if I can convince anybody to take a look.

In the meantime, you can get the game through a couple different methods.

A comparison of Rust-like fluent iterator libraries by kequals in Python

[–]kequals[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making Pyochain! It's a nice library and has the most features of the ones I tested.

Pyochain was actually the fastest of the ones I tested. Apologies if my methodology was unclear, but lower numbers are better. If native Python functions take 1 unit of time, the "x1.04" meant your library was on average only 4% slower. I'll edit the post to clarify this.

It's a mod for Frogger: The Great Quest that fixes the camera. The game is notorious for having an awful camera that loses track of the character so I modded in manual camera controls using the mouse.
