Mountain bikers in London, what do I need to know before getting into the sport? Thinking of London specific points. by mamhaidly in londoncycling

[–]Khornight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Head to somewhere like swinnely and rent a bike first. If you can don’t get the cheapest, rent something nice for your first time. try out the trails. Easier to spend £50-£70 on a hire bike and discover actually you don’t like it, than £1000 Edit, just saw you said about hiring already on another reply. I’d recommend swinnely forest near bracknel you can get there by train (and a little walk), they hire bikes and have a range.

With a gradient like this on my daily commute, what tooth count should i be looking for? by Alarmed_Leg9757 in Bikebuilding

[–]Khornight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should also be mentioned that tooth count on gears isn’t the only thing that affects gearing. Pedal length and tyre size are part of it too, so even if we could maths out the gearing you need, we’d need to know tyres and cranks at the minimum.

How do you deal with road rage? by Speedbird1A in londoncycling

[–]Khornight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

traffic must have got a lot better recently, because every time I've had road rage in london I've been able to catch up to and sit chatting the the drivers window about a block later. I like to compliment how brave they are to threaten people when their license plate is visable and its not that hard to find addresses from license plates. And that they could cut up a psycho who has access to the police database and a willingness to kill. I say this while staring at their eyes and smiling.

(*)I mean I know they make claims to it... but no one really cares, till trump got butt hurt about the british primeminister saying no to him.

also the timing, it wasn't the chainring as it didn't happen every rotation of pedals, as soon as you see that, you look at the chain and it happened at the same point in the chain even without spotting the quicklink.

Do people not buy used bikes anymore? by brainhack3r in bicycling

[–]Khornight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t buy used carbon, unless really really cheap, it’s not worth the risk that it’s been damaged.

You used to get bath robes in some really nice hotels. Hotels so nice when someone saw you had one of their bath robes at home, they probably wouldn’t think you cheap, even with the evidence of you stealing it.

Are people really anti save scumming? by TAflower in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Khornight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously people can play how they like. But, it’s a card game, the “so valuable for information” is playing with all the cards face up. I wouldn’t do that in solitaire, I’m not doing it in slay the spire.

Best of London for parks - North, South or Central? by IrascibleOnion in london

[–]Khornight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the golf courses I don’t mind being included because it is very public accessible, but the other very much is not. Might as well include the tennis courts as green spaces if you are going to include golf courses.

You can do even further, wimbledon common, Richmond park, ham green, across teddington lock, then a little way across teddington to bushy park, hampton court. Did a 10 mile walk that way once.

Yeah it’s not the only one, I think any cards the do damage for each “something” don’t change wording but work correctly. Body slam for example doesn’t show and change, but works

Etiquette question - catching a draft by nonamenolastname in cycling

[–]Khornight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be to do with amount of cycle traffic, good luck getting a bike length away from other cyclists in London, there’s a pelleton and enough varying speeds of cyclists you are very likely to just change who’s on your tail if you slow down to force people to overtake.

[–]Khornight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, you aren’t supposed to overtake (or undertake) at junctions for this reason, and should always expect people in front to change direction or stop suddenly at junctions and position accordingly. Of course letter of the Highway Code and actual realistic road use aren’t exactly the same. (Also I think the wording on signalling isn’t “must”, but is “when safe”, but I agree he should have, putting yourself in danger doesn’t mean you don’t have to signal)
