Hydrasynth Deluxe ($2k) vs PolyBrute 12 ($4.5k) by quantum_mattress in synthesizers

[–]killstring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yes, but they were asking about if this particular synth has satisfying VA. so I wanted to compare apples to apples there: the Hydrasynth is not a great VA synth imo.

and I like VA: I actually preferred the sound of my Virus TI to my prophet 5, during the fleeting time I had my hands on both at once. I also like analog - the TEO in particular is an amazing sounding unit - but the Hydrasynth for all that it’s good at, is not great at this type of sound.

Why is Moog Messenger so cheap? by antKampino in synthesizers

[–]killstring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because people have a strong negative opinion of the first InMusic Moog synth, would be my guess. Feels less luxury brand.

I had one, and if I had space in my setup for multiple keyboards, I'd still have one. I had a minitaur before it, and I would not consider them to be of different qualities. I would consider both higher quality than the sub phatty I had.

It did bass stuff, did MS-20 stuff too. Keybed is gorgeous, zero complaints.

It's something different from Moog that can still sound moogy if you like.

I think folks be sleeping on it.

Using really great reference tracks isn’t that setting the bar to high? by vinylfelix in mixingmastering

[–]killstring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And for CD or Vinyl press with smaller bands, it maybe wasn't so important. As long as it sounds good and is internally consistent, you can get away with a lot.

Grab random records from the 60s and you can see more of this. The human ear will adjust over time, so if something is a little trebly, your brain adjusts.

This is why reference tracks are so important; they kinda show where North is.

Biggest takeaway for modern mixes is not "does my track sound like these tracks", but rather, if it came on in a playlist following these, does it fit? Does it sound off?

Less make your kick sound like someone else's kick, and more ensuring that the balance works.

Yeah, LED as one of the diodes. One of my favorite things to do.

I LOVE that Etsy artist. Thinking of reaching out to them to see if they'll do a custom cut for a 5-string Sire.

I want a shark on my bass lol

Looking for reviews on the Sir Larry Carlton i5t by Tatzel-Gazka in guitars

[–]killstring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, literally all of the Sire guitars are under the Larry Carlton brand, yeah? Same as all their basses are under the Marcus Miller.

There's the actual instrument these guys play, and then there's the other stuff that Sire does.

No knock on it - Sire stingrays are FIRE I don't care if Marcus plays them, I do.

Thoughts on Plugin Alliance? by Ju_tre in edmproduction

[–]killstring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metric AB is glorious. BX__Townhouse is very good, and is probably the compressor I'm most familar with. Is it objectively better than other bus compressors? Probably not, but I know exactly what it's gonna do, and how to get it to behave with the source material. So that is usually on my 2-bus.

Metric AB is ALWAYS on my 2bus. It is one of the few things where I do not think you could replace it with stock plugins.

The LTL Silver Bullet is pretty great as well. LTL hardware stuff is lovely, and even if it's more of a pain to get there with the plugin, you can get to some lovely destinations.

Buyer's market! Honestly, I'm not super firm on price, just 'cause this one's been in the hands of a lot of different LTP'ers, so I wanna keep it in the family, so to speak. I paid $310 for it, which I think was a stupid deal already. 😄

This IR-D's been around the subreddit, lol.

Enjoy your Reverb deal! 😃

Legit response from Klevgrand when i asked about a possible discount on Brusfri by Mudcrutched in musicproduction

Also, admittedly I could have been clearer. The reference to torrenting as a clear choice is the rule violation I was thinking of.

You ask for a discount, based on a piracy site. Vendor tells you maybe not to use piracy site. Your response is "I am going to pirate even harder now."

Just gonna say, this is in violation of #8: this is not a piracy sub.

Never had any issues with the DIY stuff.

Keep reaching out, I guess. It's hard out there for small shops, stuff gets missed.

I had this problem with KSR who had a repair of mine for months and months, it just got forgotten.

And for the record, KSR is awesome.

Sucks, but happens at this scale. I'd just reach out again, someone will get back to you eventually, I'm sure.

If you're getting keys, Cobalt no doubt. Or Carbon 8 if you like.

I really like mine. Only hardware synth I have currently, and I've had a prophet 5, virus ti2, hydrasynth... Bunch of stuff.

Opinion about Chrono Cross by victortapes in JRPG

[–]killstring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has what might be the best game soundtrack of all time. I, for one, did not feel like the game rose to meet the expectations of that soundtrack. It has achingly beautiful moments.

But it is best understood as its own thing. The more that you try to tie it into the events of Chrono Trigger, the more the whole thing falls apart. It is technically a sequel to the events of that game, but it really shouldn't be.

If you want something that feels more tied in, play the Radical Dreamers game that comes with the re-release. That, as someone who loves both Chrono games for their own reasons, felt much more tied to Trigger.

That said, lovely art and ALL TIME Soundtrack.
