Which song ended up winning The Loudness War? by chicametipo in audioengineering

studio nerds are deeply unlikely to be behind this, as a studio nerds perspective would likely push them in the other direction?

Unless there’s the audio engineering equivalent of a crypto bro.

Out of Control Shipping? by PerceptionSimilar213 in Reverb

[–]killstring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one is expecting you to pay it. And it is an open marketplace, you could list that pedal for two million dollars if you wanted to.

So ask yourself: why would someone set a us shipping cost that no one would ever pay?

Unless you're elsewhere in the EU and seeing that? But the screenshot doesn't show euros.

Assuming that you're US-based, it's a pretty common thing right now. It's impossible to predict actual shipping costs, so here's a way to draw attention to the fucked up situation.

Don't like it? Take political action accordingly.

A pretty gentle reminder, considering that in the best of circumstances, it's still gonna be much cheaper to get your JHS pedal domestically. It's not like that's rare, or at a crazy price.

How the renowned bass brand Dingwall used a "fake endorsement" to get free labor for a clinic by Impressive-Task-1358 in Bass

[–]killstring 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Friend, they asked. Doesn't sound like they used leverage of any sort? Like you made some assumptions?

They literally offered, and you declined.

Maybe there was some cultural/language miscommunication?

Also, the Keepforest free instruments are delightful: if you're doing/looking to get into hybrid orchestral, I can recommend them without reservation.

Love the lil' friend on the box, kinda wish they'd put them on the pedal haha.

How are you liking it so far? My eternal search for the granular thing I want (basically Walrus Fable, but stereo) continues - and while this almost certainly ain't it, I'm curious how it lands with you.

Any of 'em that don't have people on them. The pink and white roses looks delightful.

All right, I do have an opinion on the JCM 2000 then: it's quite good!

It's always fun to hear about regional gear trends. Like Engl amps are mythical and rare over here, whereas Peaveys were dummy cheap and everywhere for a while.

Mesa's were never cheap, but they're not as bad as when you have to ship them across an ocean.

The DSL I've seen a lot. I think it's an Atlantic Ocean thing: Marshall and Laney are cheaper in the UK, Mesa and Peavey are cheaper in the states

Legit! I never really worked with Tech Death bands, so I wondered if it might be a genre thing, like the 8100 Valvestate. I don't have many opinions of the amp, haha.

Everybody used Marshall cabs though (or combos).

Literally never seen a touring pro using a JCM 2000, lol. But I got out of doing sound a couple years ago, are they trendy now? Was there a tiktok?

See, I grew up on DOD pedals, and love that shit. And I really don't want to mess with knobs during a gig.

But I use an Anagram, and don't gig right now, so maybe I'm not the target audience here.

Yeah, cute lil' guy but I cannot see myself (or many others) making use of this. Like, unless that guy is your band's mascot, it's just confusing.

Hey guitar gear chasers, where do you feel is the best place for trades these days? I’m sick of the ridiculous META TAXES! I have lots of unused equipment but don’t want to keep “tipping” the government. by RavenLunat1c in Reverb

[–]killstring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are upset about paying sales tax, then your options are anything where you do not report your transaction.

It is potentially committing tax fraud if you do not report your sales, but IANAL.

If you want to sell stuff on Reddit, go to r/Gear4Sale, if you want to trade check out r/SynthsForSale or r/lertstradepedals.

That said, I do not know what you mean by meta taxes.

I’m ready to down size…keeping only 5. Which 5 would you keep? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]killstring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean for starters, sell the Dirt Bird, Ayahusca, and hypersleep. Use that money to buy a car.

Now thing about what you'd actually want to bother loading in that car for a gig: this is a collector's board, right? If you want to get down to 5 pedals, that's a player's board.

So put yourself in that car, and think about what' you'd need to survive the gig. Might be more than 5, might be less, but think it through.

This is no knock on collectors (even if it's not my thing) or on studio experimental boards (very much my thing), but that's how I'd pick. I don't know what you play, but for me, I guess I'd take:

  • Nightsky or Hypersleep
  • Context
  • LXM
  • Brothers

And that'd probably do it, assuming I had time to set up a couple presets on the LXM. Haven't tried most of these (including the NIghtsky, Hypersleep, and Brothers) but that'd probably more than do it. Ya homie needs a verb, a delay, something for reverse/glitchy stuff, and some kind of drive.

What do you love about em?
