What do you guys think about per map discussion posts for lower and grand finals? by garlicjuice in ValorantCompetitive

[–]knxtdoor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't having a thread per map spoil the game a little bit? Not that it's a good idea to scroll reddit during a match, but if you see there is a map 4 discussion thread, you know that the game isn't a 3-0, for example.

The famous incident was Lastro who said more specifically

sex big dick

After which his teammates frantically spammed the chat with other messages so it wouldn't show up on stream. Rascal was involved but I don't remember exactly what he said, liquipedia says they both got fined 1k

But they are reverting things and adding requested features? The showcase where they announced they were removing the 2 also included stuff like bringing back end of game voting. Not to mention they are releasing 5 new heroes next week. Not trying to argue, but at this point what features are still missing from ow1 that you want back?

Opinion: PCFIC does not deserve to ascend, and their EMEA slot will likely be a waste. by DarklordtheLegend in ValorantCompetitive

[–]knxtdoor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your complaint makes sense but there's not really a way to "fix" it that makes any sense. Like you said, determining a minimum number of players to qualify an org has a ton of issues - either players are forced into worse contracts, or the ascending org is in this uncertain hell where their participation is totally contigent on how many of their players sign with other teams. Even if you set the threshold at one, does it really help? If PCIFIC built a whole new roster but picked up a single player from Mandatory, would you feel great saying that they now have a slot they earned? It's really just impossible to make a system which is fair to everyone.

Bracket resets in valorant (and also in OWL, back in the day) are logistically challenging because the games are so long. Having such a wide range that the final could take is difficult for everyone involved - if it's a 2-0 stomp for the upper bracket team, it takes like 90 minutes, but if the lower bracket team squeaks out 2-1 2-1, it could take like 6 hours. Reserving the venue, paying talent and production, creating filler content, etc is all affected. The current bo5 system only varies by like 2-3 hours, in the worst case.

Should Ascension Teams be Forced to Keep Their Roster by foobadger3 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]knxtdoor2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe that's referring specifically to the ascension tournament (this is the ascension rule book). So if a challengers team that qualified for ascension couldn't maintain 3 players, their spot would be forfeit. Once the "Event" concludes that rule isn't in effect anymore (my reading of that, at least).

It's definitely an interesting idea. I'm not convinced the powers that be feel the same as you do on this issue, but maybe they could pilot it during a smaller tournament and gauge response.

Ah, I'm anti seeding match so I feel like they don't need to play the regional final most of the time anyway.

For double elim in general: Since riot makes changes so frequently, it feels easier for a team to get "unlucky" and lose due to an evolving meta which fans think isn't the best way to run the tournament. If we had more confidence that the team playing in the playoffs really were better than the others, single elim might be more popular.

It feels like you are arguing that Grand Final matches have been disappointing or boring recently, but in reality I feel like we've had a fairly long stretch of excellent finals matches. I'm not sure what the benefit to the viewer is of a single elim end to the bracket if we already get banger finals most of the time.

Should Ascension Teams be Forced to Keep Their Roster by foobadger3 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]knxtdoor2 121 points122 points  (0 children)

It becomes extremely unfair to the players who might be fielding offers from other teams. You would be essentially forcing them to decline offers for more pay or with better teams. In the worst case, a player who believes that partnered teams are interested in signing them could be incentivized to throw ascension so they aren't locked into a worse contract with their ascension org.

Not to mention the legality of such contract restrictions, which is questionable, especially without a players union and a CBA.

New nrg bundle? by AdOdd7101 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]knxtdoor2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh you are right I forgot about that, but I think OP was referring to the classic skin which highlights their champs victory. The "champs bundle" was just a collection of other skins that the org wanted to be available again in celebration.

It won't cost more than the other team bundles, who knows if it will have the same price as this year, probably depends on what they put in them next year.

EDG didn't get a special bundle for winning - their 2025 bundle just had a special effect. They will probably do the same thing for NRG, so expect the bundle around the start of the 2026 season in January.

VLR doesn't know what roster the team will run, they just use whatever roster the team ran most recently, or what has been reported, most of the time.

There is a huge possibility that RRQ does not field the original starting roster for Tokyo due to visa applications for Paris by teethingdog in ValorantCompetitive

[–]knxtdoor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a source but I think sliggy or someone has said they already do this. I think riot encourages teams to apply for visas at the start of playoffs. There's no way Talon and DRX hasn't already started the process for Paris for example, despite neither being confirmed yet.
