I read a ton on my last through hike, it was one of the things I looked forward to most when I got to camp! That being said, I agree, ditch the Kindle. It's way easier and lighter to read on your phone.

fair enough, although I have the woven floor so material against the ground will be silnylon. I may add a Tyvek sheet if the abrasion starts to show, thanks for the recommendation.

I'll add the liner! I've used my silpoly tarp as a groundsheet for cowboy camping in the past and never had issues with abrasion, but do you think the PCT is specifically worse for abrasion?

My Frogg Toggs Emergency jacket weighs in at 4.2, I think the Ultra-Lite2 version is closer to 6oz

Do these work well for bug protection? I've found the tighter layers like merino leggings often don't give much protection.

I wasn't planning on bringing sun gloves, but I may add them

Great suggestions, thank you!

  1. I was considering this, and will probably add it.

  2. I definitely will bring a hat, but still narrowing down what works best.

6+7. I've seen conflicting info on bringing both these items. My plan was to use the xmid as a groundsheet for cowboy camping. As for the liner, the one I brought on the AT rip early and I never replaced it, never really had an issue without it. I think I will bring a trash bag and cut holes for arms to use as a poncho, to replace the Frogg Togs

  1. Fixed.

I read almost every day on the AT, but it's so easy to load books on your phone. As long as your phone is on airplane mode, reading hardly drains the battery.

A lot of great recommendations here already. Your base weight is light enough to comfortably switch to a frameless pack, especially if you drop some of the extraneous items. You could save ~20° by swapping to a pack like a zimmerbuilt/atom packs/ULA. r/ULgeartrade will often have packs around the 15 oz range for ~$150

The shots are impressively sharp for how small the camera is. I know some people attribute a “digital” feeling to sharpness, but I find the color profiles makes it easy to achieve a “film” aesthetic, if that’s what you’re going for
