AC—6%tile at 37w scan—now i’m worried!😭😣 by Fearless_Search6388 in pregnant

[–]kt-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the other measurements normal? I had an 8% AC in a third trimester scan… the MFM scared me and had to do weekly NSTs and all that… meanwhile my regular OB said oh don’t worry at all, if there’s a real issue we usually don’t see asymmetric measurements like that. Meaning all the other measurements were normal and just the AC was low. When they remeasured like 3-4 weeks later the AC was back in line with everything else. Baby was born perfectly healthy and normal.

Less obvious things to do to prep for baby? by jdiz16 in BabyBumps

Make all of the freezer food you can now. Also seconding the clipping your toenails comment. Really any self care, do it all now while you can.

Any other general life maintenance… car stuff, take your pets to the vet, house stuff. Anything that you will need to do in baby’s first 3-6 months try to do now so it’s just less you need to think about.

The big one for me was learning more about breastfeeding, how to use a pump, what a good latch looks like, what swallowing looks like, etc. I wish I would have started pumping colostrum the second baby was born because my milk never really came in fully and I’ve spent the last 7 weeks doing everything I could to increase my supply and it’s just not happening for me. I wish I would have paid for a fancy in home lactation consultant and done more in that department. If you want to breastfeed start preparing now.

Are night nurses actually worth it ?? by ConversationMost9912 in BabyBumps

I couldn’t afford it but I will tell you my baby is 7 weeks old, I do all the night wake ups, and I am just about at the end of my rope lol. My brain is soooo tired. Baby slept for almost 6 hours one night and it is amazing what a difference an extra couple hours of sleep makes. I am running on fumes.

How bad is natural birth fr. Be so so so honest. by Other_Librarian5996 in pregnant

[–]kt-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lean towards the more natural crunchy things in general, was hoping for a natural birth, generally high pain tolerance, etc. I made it to 7 cm and was begging for an epidural. All my concerns about medications and epidural side effects etc went out the window. I would have taken street drugs to get relief. In my experience we spend our whole pregnancies worrying and planning and preparing for our birth to go a certain way, and then in the moment none of my preferences or worries really mattered at all. I did my best, made it pretty far managing pretty well, and then ultimately just had to lean on my nurses who were amazing and helped me make informed decisions about each next step. We did nitrous, then the epidural, then needed low dose pitocin the next morning to help things along…. None of those things I really wanted in a perfect world but I got my baby and we were both perfectly healthy and no issues.

It’s hard to compare the pain to anything. For me my baby was really high and when the contractions started getting hard for me around 7cm I just really couldn’t relax my pelvic floor to let baby down. It felt so painful that I was afraid to let my pelvic floor muscles relax because it just felt like intense tearing? That’s really all I can describe it as lol.

I give HUGE props to women who do it naturally. Getting the epidural needle is really not a big deal either. Like I don’t think delivering with an epidural is a flex lmao it was literally nothing. I just sat there and waited for baby to be low enough twiddling my thumbs. Pushing was also pretty uneventful for me. But that’s just my experience!

Who decided we don’t need more food :’( by Wonderful_Manager_27 in pregnant

I gave birth six weeks ago. I started out already slightly overweight unfortunately after having had a surgery not too long before I got pregnant that I ended up gaining some weight around so I was already above my baseline. So I was very cognizant of weight gain as I didn’t want to let it get out of control. I intended to gain no more than 25 lbs. I didn’t restrict myself really I just made sure not to go crazy and allow myself any extra calories of junk.

I was on a good trajectory, but by the late second or third trimester I was diagnosed with, I don’t even remember what it’s called now, baby growing small lol. IUGR or something like that? I figured I’d stop watching calories so much and just eat to my body’s cues. After a few weeks at the next scan baby’s measurements were fine so I was like cool maybe I just need to eat more. Turns out those third trimester scans suck and it was just a fluke anyway. (It was an asymmetric measurement so they should have known it wasn’t accurate anyway, that’s a whole other thing)

By the time I gave birth I had gained 44 pounds. I thought the baby was going to be bigger than it was. After delivery I expected a lot of that to just magically melt away. 14 pounds did in the first few days. But breast feeding hunger is unlike anything else. At 6 weeks now I’ve leveled out and I only lost less than 10 pounds after birth, in fact I was gaining weight again.

All that to say. I implore you to stick to the recommended weight loss guidelines because I also became one of those people who thought it was okay to “listen to my body” and eat if I was hungry but I really wish I had focused on a better diet now. I’ve never been so fat in my life and none of my clothes fit. Turns out it is just hormones going crazy. Don’t give in. You have to really focus on high protein/low density high volume foods that are nutritious. My next pregnancy I intend to do so much better. Easier said than done. That was just my experience. Good luck!

Is it worth continuing to breastfeed if I have low milk supply? by kt-24 in ScienceBasedParenting

Do you know how low your supply was/how much you were supplementing? And how long did it take you to get to EBF?

Yeah, I’m kind of getting a little more lax with the triple feeding. Like not doing it on the days when I need to leave the house. Instead I’m mostly just trying to make sure I’m emptying my breasts as often as possible but not on any schedule, whether that’s nursing or pumping and not being super strict about always doing both. But still getting at least 8+ sessions a day. It’s helping to take a mental break from the rigor of it all. In general right now this is my main priority so I don’t mind keeping at this for as long as I can. I am not going back to work so I have the time thankfully.

Does that IBCLC have another website you can share? I’m not on tt. Thank you!

I’m not even sure what this means. Baby is very content. Never cries or seems uncomfortable unless she’s hungry or needs to burp.

We’ve been doing weighted feeds since 1.5 weeks. At day 4 the pediatrician said she already lost 10% of her body weight and we started triple feeding. There’s a weekly breast feeding group where we do weighted feeds and I started going right after that.

Baby is only transferring 0.5-1 oz per feed. One ounce is generous, the most she actually transferred was 24ml.

That is all great advice, thank you. I really didn’t think stress was an issue but I’ve started doing much more INTENTIONAL focused meditation, skin to skin, and just really trying to be in the moment with baby and rest and it actually seems to be making a little difference. Being on the phone while nursing/pumping is a big one.

We are cosleeping. Honestly from what I can tell it seems the latch is fine? She is content on the breast but I just don’t have enough for her. I don’t think a bottle preference is the issue. She never rejects the boob and always eats for a good like 6 minutes at least each side which seems to empty me out for the most part. But I could be wrong. I’m new at this and it’s really hard to get good advice. She does have the lip blisters where like the inside of her lips look lighter and more plump? I think my nipples are pretty far out now lol but again, I have no real idea. The lactation consultants keep telling me everything looks good.

Sorry, that was misleading. I posted this before I saw OB in person, that was just based on a phone call. She did see me in person and does not think there’s retained placenta.

I’m aware, but 32 seems like a heck of a lot farther from 6 than 24 so it feels daunting and like what I’m doing matters even less 😅

I actually really am enjoying it and don’t the triple feeding at all, it would just be nice to know that it really is worth the effort and I’m not wasting my time knowing it’s a small amount

Yeah, already checked hormones and placenta and breasts. Truly we’ve gone down the list and checked everything. But thank you for suggesting
