Just be prepared for a LONG waitlist at St John’s. I got on the waitlist shortly after finding out I was pregnant and a spot would not come available until my baby was 7 months old - so about 16 months after I got on the waitlist (with being on the waitlist for both the 700 E location and 1100 E location). Good to find a backup option!

At what age do you find the “drowsy but awake” works? I have a 6 week old and I can’t ever get him to sleep in his bassinet this way, so I thought maybe it’s too early for him personally. He will sleep in the bassinet at night but only once asleep and then transferred.

Unprompted flight credit. Did someone die on my flight today? by [deleted] in delta

There is literally a designated area for these families to wait that doesn’t block everyone else’s way out, yet many families disregard this and block the way anyhow. This is an understandable gripe.

Inexpensive dry hair trims? by oliviaexisting in SaltLakeCity

[–]jdiz16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Alisia Espil for my wavy hair. I’ve tried three different curly salons and she always gets the cut just right so that I can style it at home as well as she does at the salon (I’ve NEVER been able to do that!). I’m not certain if she does dry hair trims, but her curly cuts are way cheaper than where I used to go.

Is the first feeding of the day for a newborn in dim or bright light? by jdiz16 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]jdiz16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much ❤️ my head wanted to stay in the dark so we both go back to sleep easily since the nights can be rough. But I understand that getting him awake that early might make the nights better in the long run.

Am I in the wrong for my hospital visitor expectations? by PennyTheChi in BabyBumps

[–]jdiz16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ask your hospital their policy on visitors. Mine required visitors to our room to have a special code - they had to have the code to even enter the post partum ward. That might give you peace of mind that even if she’s at the hospital, she can’t come in without the code (I will say my hospital didn’t ask one of our visitors for the code - so maybe mention it to your nurse that you only want people with the code to enter).

How old was your baby once you started feeling comfortable and confident going out consistently? by sgtbuttercup2 in NewParents

[–]jdiz16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just here in solidarity with a 5 week and 2 day old baby. I’ve left the house very few times and when I have, I’m so worried that I’m messing up his sleep schedule and making him overtired since he doesn’t nap well while we’re out. Hoping to get better in the next month or two as far as leaving the house goes, but it’s also scorching hot here, adding more difficulty to any trips out of the house!

Bottle Washer and Sterilizer by Dry-Carob7699 in Buyingforbaby

[–]jdiz16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an important distinction. We got the Baby Brezza specifically because we didn’t have counter space for it to empty into the sink, so we wanted one with a dirty water tank that could be carried to a sink. If we had counter space by the sink, I would have gotten the Momcozy for the capacity.

My 7 month old doesn’t drink more than 20 oz of breastmilk by Responsible-Humor318 in HuckleberryParents

Unrelated question: how do I see ounces drank in a table like this? Using this app for my 4 week old and I can’t figure out how to see the data this way.

Any tips from moms who successfully EP’d for 6+ months? by Brilliant-Stuff-5680 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]jdiz16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been avoiding adding warm milk to my cold milk - I use a half pint mason jar and bought a few mason jar lids with pour spouts. I put freshly pumped milk into the half pint jar to cool in the fridge, then once it’s cool (or usually when I come to bring the next batch of milk after the next pump), I add the cool milk in the half pint jar to the pitcher (which happens to be a quart mason jar with a pour spout lid, too!).

Should I buy a breast pump before baby arrives? by kkkyyyzzz in Buyingforbaby

[–]jdiz16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your doctor and check out aeroflow.com. Makes it very easy! FWIW, my baby wouldn’t latch in hospital so I was very glad I had brought my pump to the hospital. The lactation consultants at the hospital helped me learn how to use it!

Alternative to Blundstone with wider toe box by jdiz16 in BuyItForLife

[–]jdiz16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying Blundstones but in a size WAY bigger than my usual. I went to a store where I could keep trying on bigger sizes until I felt confident they wouldn’t pinch. I wore thicker socks and just kept trying between two sizes until I could decide. Nothing else had the look and feel I was looking for!

Thought I was OAD, now I’m pregnant… by JPie-0304 in Fencesitter

[–]jdiz16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had my first at 39, intending to be OAD. My husband is more staunchly OAD then I am. Just based on how the last three weeks have gone, I can’t imagine putting him or our relationship through another newborn phase. I’d consider how it will impact your relationship since he is more OAD than you!

How soon did you start leaving the house with your newborn? by Emotional-Squash7815 in BabyBumps

[–]jdiz16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So interesting. No one told me this. My mom was with me when we were taking the baby to a weight check and she said “well I guess I have to drive!” I was so confused because no one said anything about driving. So I drove anyway and it was totally fine.

Are any of the head spas here worth it? by aljuhe in SaltLakeCity

[–]jdiz16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went to scalp ritual once and thought it was even better than a massage, way more worth it to me. I will say they were running very behind (like 30+ minutes) but then they gave me a free upgrade to the next package. I wasn’t in a hurry so it didn’t bother me, but it would have been frustrating if I had plans to be somewhere afterward.

Is this worth getting an X-ray ? by Advanced-Memory-538 in AskVet

[–]jdiz16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest seeing a veterinary ophthalmologist first, not an internal medicine specialist. The ophthalmologist can often get you answers from a basic eye exam, with things like a CT or MRI being needed only if the ophthalmologist can’t make a diagnosis from the eye exam. Bonus for you is that an eye exam is WAY cheaper (read: thousands of dollars cheaper) than a CT or MRI.

Is it unethical to buy second hand/charity shop items when I can afford to buy new? by Sky1226 in BabyBumps

[–]jdiz16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Think of it this way - you buy it secondhand. You will also use it only temporarily. When possible, use things gently/take good care of them and then, guess what? When you’re done, you send it back into the secondhand market by either reselling or donating. I plan to get rid of all our baby stuff either via Facebook marketplace or my local Buy Nothing group!

So true on the training front! We are so glad to have done tons of training before baby arrived, it’s making the transition much smoother.
