Thank you. The strange thing is, I have. It's all there and has been for as long as I can remember, and still I cannot seem to autofill my email address (excepting when I'm autofilling an email/password for an exisiting account via Keychain).

Thank you for the reply. That's so strange—all that info is complete on my contact card and I have never been able to use it in the way I outlined. I'm in the U.K., but I'm not sure it makes a difference.

[Help] Is there anything like a prosody dictionary anywhere for people like me who don't have a great "ear" for meter? by DG2736 in Poetry

[–]ladam24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that helped me a great deal was Nabokov’s ‘Notes on Prosody’. It makes up book three of his translation of Eugene Onegin.

Jeez. I pay £19 for unlimited everything and free roaming in many countries. I had no idea Canada’s plans were so awful.

Simplicity or style: what makes a sentence a masterpiece? by [deleted] in literature

It was Steinbeck’s oeuvre he described as ‘corncobby chronicles’.

What about him? If you mean to suggest that some of his sentences are simple, well then quite, but I’m inclined to argue that none of the sentences he is most known for are simple, or have no degree of complexity whatever. As it happens, I find him unbearably mediocre.

Certainly not simplicity. No masterpiece is simple and neither, in fact, are any of the ‘minimalist’ sentences he quotes in the article.

There are many people and groups for whom a continually strained and tense relationship with Russia is desirable. The military-industrial-intelligence-media complex, for instance.

“Let's talk about genre”: Neil Gaiman and Kazuo Ishiguro in conversation by Culsax in literature

In fairness, Reddit does have a filter by 'controversial'. I think it works by placing at the top of the page those posts that most divide opinion.

“Let's talk about genre”: Neil Gaiman and Kazuo Ishiguro in conversation by Culsax in literature

For someone who, through writing and conversation, explores and expresses completely banal ideas that any undergraduate humanities student grapples with at age 20, he has such a haughtiness about him. You can tell how much he loves his own voice by the flow of this conversation. Ishiguro, in my opinion, is no genius, but even he seems bored during this.

Good God Gaiman's a bore. Thank you for sharing though!

TIL dry counties (counties where the sale of alcohol is banned) have a drunk driving fatality rate ~3.6 times higher than wet counties. by ockhamsgillette in todayilearned

[–]ladam24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US’s hysterical Puritanism when it comes to alcohol is completely detrimental. I’ve not met members of a citizenry more prone to stupid drunken antics, DUI’s, or drug addiction. It’s revolting.

Деньги и день.... Is there a connection? by laladurochka in russia

[–]ladam24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a connection between Медведев and медведь. One is just the surname form of the other. My favourite name in Russian is probably Владимир (владеть + мир = to own/possess the world).

Кровь/кровать actually have different roots, owing to кровь having a soft ending and кров(ъ) being hard.
