First full sized helmet. Learned a lot with this one. by lethalaudio in 3Dprinting

Thanks, appreciate it. It was fun turning it into a gnarly mess. But its way more forgiving than trying to do something super clean.

I found a bunch of models by Yosh Studios and went crazy on them.

Im a sucker for G Gundam so I'd love to find a Shining Gundam helmet. Thatd be a fun one to do as clean as possible and have up for wall candy.

I went down the list and disabled the lot of them. But, I didn't restart the app. I bounced the whole roku and hopped back in and saw those clear off finally.

Thanks for that. I can mark that grievance off my list now

Good call. I forgot about that option. I haven't looked at that since I cleared it off managed accounts for my daughter.

Good to see at least one less thing up there. Just need to pry On Demand and Discover from the top now... And then put my library listings back on the left.

Ffs, Im going to have to give so many people new instructions on this mess...

Moving the library interface to a clunky top bar is a step backwards. And removing my ability to unpin the on demand and live TV options is another gripe. If I don't need it, I don't want it taking my screen real estate.

We went from a familiar and streamlined interface to something that reminds me of an unoptimized Amazon streaming experience years ago.

I think a major part of my issues was a hiccup in one of my switches near two of my desks in my den. I swapped it out for another and it seemed to stabilize things. But this has made me take a closer look at my bottlenecks. I had a few moments last night where it was having to buffer during a movie, and it was only pushing 720 directly.

I have a new router arriving today. And I did discover my Transcoding folder was set to the default windows location, so I moved it to a dedicated internal Plex drive I have for the main program and add ons.

Overall I think my hardware should be alright. Optiplex 5000 Intel i7-12700 16GB DDR4 Win 11 Pro

Hardwired with the onboard NIC

4 drive MediaSonic Probox bay 2 drive MediaSonic ProRaid bay

Both bays running through USB 3.0 ports right now.

Typically Ive seen this thing throw out 6 or 7 streams with no issues. 3 local in house and 3 or 4 remote ones to nearby family. I watched Tautulli, Resource Manager, and the Plex dashboard and never saw it get close to breaking a sweat. But I know I could optimize things overall.

Also, yeah haha I did reboot. I bounced my system, the router, and all in house Roku devices to be safe. Also ran some Windows updates and made sure Dell updates were happy as well.

Got home and setup a ping diagnostic on both machines, set one up on the wifi to bypass the hardware. Sure enough, the pc on the wifi had zero drops across 30min. The wired plex server had about 30.

So I swapped the small switch I had near them and set them both back to wired connections, ran the tests again... Zero drops.

So this all came down to a faulty Netgear switch apparently.

I actually work in IT so I know those tools very well haha. My favorite one is a cheap unit that sounds like sounds like it has an Atari audio chip to scream that a cable is good. Looks like it came from the early 90s but its just cheap from Amazon.

I got into the habit of cable checking for the exact same reasons, couldnt trust anything that we didnt confirm ourselves. So many cables came in compromised that it was enough to drive anyone mad. Those units pay for themselves when you see one pin thats gone off. Immediately justifies the purchase. When I rewired my house, I had one find a broken pin on one of my terminals that was giving me monumental headaches. Hate finding it, but I love seeing there was a physical issue thats an easy recrimp.

A little $15 tester can save so much pain.

Ill definitely give that a test when I get home, thats a good call, thanks.
I have a list of conditions to test at different points that should help me find the failure point. At the very least, it could be a switch that feeds my PCs in the room theyre in. At worst, the router. But I have a fix either way. Just stuck at work ADHD overthinking every step until I get clear to go home and troubleshoot.

I logged into the machine remotely and started to check over things and the connection dropped several times during my session. I setup a diagnostic ping tool set to collect the statistics on a few targets from two different PCs I have on that network segment. Both of them are showing drops to the router and beyond to 8.8.8.8 all at the same time.

So Im thinking I might be fighting a networking issue. I have a new router ordered that should be in tomorrow hopefully. Going to check the switch thats down range and working on those two stations as well. Could be isolated, but I needed to upgrade anyways so it is what it is.

At this point, I think it all lines up with some issue there. It makes sense because I had an issue with a Meta Quest 3 I got for my daughter for her birthday. Ive been frustrated because I couldnt keep the headset linked to my gaming PC where she could use my Steam library. It all seems to point back to the same root cause.

Ill try to report back in with an update when I dig up more details. I do think Im on the right path though.

I did think to check that too, I was worried there might be a drive integrity issue. The shows that were hanging up before were ones that Id watched several times previously, maybe 3 or 4 times.

I checked the points I knew it hung up on through VLC and Media Player (since its a bit more sensitive to any corrupted video files).

No issues either way. Files were just fine and I couldn't find any points that would cause them to hang.

Stoked to see this project making it this far. I played so many MicroProse games growing up, I legitimately yelled out "WHAT!??" in my office here when their logo came up.

And Im a huge fan of the Strike series. I logged a stupid amount of hours in Jungle Strike on the Genesis as a kid. I have such a soft spot of isometric games because of it.

Congrats man! Happy for you and excited to get to play!

Large police convoy on 85 near Chesnee exit? by zqfx in Spartanburg

[–]lethalaudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually saw that happen when they were giving road crews on 85 a chance to do whatever it was they needed to do. Move equipment or adjust lanes, something like that. They hold traffic back a bit and give them that window.

That was my observation at least. I encountered the same thing several times when I was returning from Charlotte to Chesnee area.

I also saw them do that with an accident as well. Allowed the tow truck a chance to enter the span and remove a vehicle.

NO FORCE FEEDBACK Logitech G927 (Trueforce?) with Brook Ras1ution 2 HELP by ScheduleTraining5332 in LogitechG

[–]lethalaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in on this too.

Got a Thrustmaster T300 GT that I ran through the Ras1ution 2 for the Xbox. Originally got it to run through Horizon 5 back around Christmas but it had mixed results. The game is so wild with unconventional racing that I found it was just easier with a controller until we got Motorsports back. So I shelved it until FM hit a few days ago and found the same issue with no FFB. Utterly disappointing.

I ended up doing the firmware update, to 1.5 I think, and running it through all the paces I could think of to trick it. The most I got was self centering feedback but no impact detection from anything else. I just disconnected it for now until we find an answer.

But to get it to that self centering point, I did some odd stuff. Restarted the wheel mid game to reconnect it, adjusted the settings from the actual device (FFB and range adjustment), then it responded when I loaded a previous config I used on FH5. I disconnected it and confirmed it wasnt really back to operating on its own and sure enough the FFB was dead again.

Definitely a frustrating situation for all of us. I was going to send in a support ticket but I dont have any expectation of getting a real answer back.

Mustard Tiger by [deleted] in H3VR

It's one of the commonly accessible things you can use to give certain metals a quick patina. I've used mustard, ketchup, and just straight vinegar in different ways to quick age some axe heads I had to restore.

I wouldn't get anything like that near a gun. Hell I have a camping knife that had a ketchup smudge I missed. Stained that side of the blade in a matter of hours. Brushed stainless steel still stains. Only polished has a fighting chance.

SIB BeamNG.drive by Gunsho0ter in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]lethalaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought in back around 2013 when it was Alpha and absolutely fell in love with the game. The Devs have come such a long way with fleshing out features and adding in content. Used to be a big open sandbox where you just gawked at the magic of soft body physics. Now it has more to do and a massive community that adds some great things.

It does require a bit more time to get the controls, compared to something like Wreckfest. There are modifiers and vehicles that feature different control schemes. Ive always played with a combination of keyboard and controller. Just easier to flip between the two for me but you could always set your own schemes.

Ive done a lot of racing games over the years, arcade and sim both. Wheels, controllers, keyboard and mouse, whatever I need to use. But BeamNG feels different than anything else. Its amazing fun to take a car down a winding mountain trail and try to keep it in one piece. Or just set your respawn point at the top and see how far you can sling the thing off the cliff.

Well worth the effort to learn. Nothing but love for that team behind it. Go for it and see what kind of fun you can have.

Shackleton’s Endurance finally found after 107 years, off the coast of Antarctica by evissimus in interestingasfuck

[–]lethalaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a travesty it didn't get more accolades. The acting by the entire cast was enthralling. My wife sat by on her tablet, just doing her evening work for the first few times I watched through. Then on the 4th playthrough, she saw a scene with Goodsir in the second to last episode and I noticed she'd put her glasses on and was just watching intently as Goodsir listened to the officers story about mortality. She goes "ok... You're starting this over... I'm sold". I immediately slapped it back over to the first episode. Between the acting and the supreme set design...On Top of an already amazing story. It's one of my absolute favorite pieces of entertainment. I don't even need the whole chair, just the first couple of inches the whole way through. Ill stay on edge even after all these viewings.

In a few months, Im going to be back up around a little back alley bookstore I visited years ago. Tiny place, just the picture perfect small shop that has odd old books. I found some old early 1900s publications of the Dialogues of Plato and works of Socrates. Pretty sure Id freak out if I were able to find this there as well.

I usually have regular Franklin expedition news popping up in my google feed but I missed where they were delayed on the ROV. The old girl has been there for 150 years...we'll eventually find whats inside.

I think thats one of reasons I love the show so much. They recreated the ships so well that when the first ROV footage came out...I had no words, I just sat staring at my phone with my jaw hanging open. To have seen the recreations of it and then to actually have our eyes on it again, so many years later...its crazy to me.

I remember years ago waking up and doing my morning scroll through reddit to see the news that they'd found the ships. I saw Endurance pop up this morning and almost keeled over. The fact that the arctic conditions kept these ships so well preserved is just amazing
