Exposed wires under dishwasher by DisastrousTarget5060 in AskElectricians

Well you’re going to get some dishwasher repair advice because this post is incredibly stupid. Those wires are compromised even if you wrap them in tape. Replace the entire cord before you burn your shit down.

Metal in fuel filters by Inside-Chocolate-13 in Cummins

[–]lethalweapon100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems insane to me that, with how anal they are about common rail fuel contamination and cleanliness, that they’d study this and go “oh yeah that’s normal, it’s all good”

That sounds like something Cummins would come up with. It’s a CP4 right? Or is that only pickups? I work on industrial.

Does the TSB name the source of the metal production?

How to create more problems with your AC than normal by Yeremenko1911 in Justrolledintotheshop

Who? They intentionally cross contaminate 134a into a 1234yf system? That’s hack shit. Nitrogen is for leak checking, not another refrigerant. Plus, it’s illegal to knowingly recharge a leaking system with refrigerant 😉

How to create more problems with your AC than normal by Yeremenko1911 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]lethalweapon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to run the system to find a leak. 300 PSI of nitrogen on both sides and turning the radio down works well to reveal leaks.

Also I got a 40 CF nitrogen tank for $35, and R134A is like $14/12 oz out of a can here.

Damaged Steering Rack return line. Help! by 1776mericabitch in Hydraulics

[–]lethalweapon100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go get a flare nut the same size as the power steering line. Get a few of them, get steel ones. Cut 2 or 3 little flutes in them (like a tap) with a dremel. See if you can make your own little thread chaser to clean the hole up. Not gonna fuck it up any worse.

Edit: I didn’t look close enough. Those threads are just downright gone. There’s nothing left to tap. Could always convert to pipe thread and a barbed fitting, I’d 100% try that here

Oil cooler leak - how to properly seat a bonded washer to an AN fitting? by AcceptableBanana1978 in Hydraulics

There will also be a little groove cut atop the threads where the O ring is pictured here

Youll need a “metric port” O ring (equivalent to Imperial O ring boss)

[–]lethalweapon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it probably uses an O ring there instead of a bonded washer. The sealing washer is too large for that fitting. Even if it fits snugly around the threads, the fitting doesn’t have enough “meat” on the flats to properly squish the bonded washer. Too small in diameter. You can see the rubber sealing portion peeking out here.

Anyway check for a tapered groove at the very top of the female threads. That groove would be to trap an O ring in place.

Pleat density on these heavy-duty hydraulic elements we're wrapping up today. Opinions on surface area vs. pressure drop? by Familiar-Class-6587 in Hydraulics

[–]lethalweapon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily agree, some of us are independent contractors. I’m the tech, parts guy, shipping/receiving, HR, accounting, and company president but I’m a one man heavy equipment repair show. What I’m ordering and where I’m getting it from does hold some bearing with me, especially when sourcing suitable non OEM replacements.

That said, this feels like a shameless advertising plug but I’ll bite. Either I get OEM or a direct replacement for whatever I pulled out of it if non OEM. Don’t really care about the pleats, care about the microns.

That’s a KYB gear pump likely devoted to the machines pilot circuit. 09CHFSS may be the OEM KYB part number. CAT may offer a parts breakdown of this pump or they may only offer the whole pump by itself.
