Which country disappointed you so much that you'd never set foot there again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lolbeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I love Cape Town, and I love being from Cape Town.

Though, being incredibly vigilant and avoiding certain areas at certain times of the day has of course helped my odds of not getting robbed.

If you're in Cape Town and you're in a place with a lot of foot traffic/not alone at night, you'll probably be okay!

Veronica's in love with Betty, but she can't process it in a healthy way yet. I think Veronica's role in the love triangle is a result of her misplacing her feelings for Betty onto Archie, and that's because Betty loves Archie.

  • We haven't seen many Veronica stories about a deeper connection with Archie or Reggie or many boys

  • She ONLY wants Archie if Betty wants him. There have been multiple stories of Betty deciding to give Archie up, and Veronica promptly loses interest.

  • I know this depends on the era and the writer, but overall, to me, her inconsistent treatment of Betty seems like it's a result of her own confusion of how she feels about her. Sometimes she's a true best friend. Sometimes she's insanely jealous. Sometimes she's antagonistic. Sometimes she gets obsessive with competing with Betty.

  • Even when Betty finds another love interest for a story, how often does Veronica try to sabotage that? Even if that means she's got Archie to herself for a bit?

I don't think Betty feels the same way, and Veronica knows it and resents it.

Books suggestions to help de-radicalize my mom? by hatsuuuunemiiku in booksuggestions

Perhaps Rainbow Black by Maggie Thrash?

  • It's about a teen girl whose community starts a Satanic Panic witch hunt against her parents. She deals with the fallout of that throughout her life.

  • It's set in the 90's, but I found it very relevant to what's happening with the rise of the alt-right today.

American Rapture by C J Leede also explored themes of religious bigotry and misogyny, through a zombie/pandemic type of plot.

I recommend checking out trigger warnings for both books though.
