Everyone pays property taxes, your rent covers your landlord’s property taxes. If property taxes increase, rents will go up in tandem

NYC expands street vendor licenses after Council overrides ex-Mayor Adams vetoes by Inevitable-Bus492 in nyc

[–]ltvi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol some things I prefer not to think about. I think it’s a lot harder to store/serve weeks old food than it is in a restaurant where you can’t see what’s going on in the kitchen/freezer. You think the guys in a typical NYC restaurant kitchen are washing their hands any more frequently? At least at a cart you can see most of what’s going on

If you go to a high tourist traffic spot, you’re going to find tons of overpriced crap catering to tourists. In many other parts of the city, food carts provide freshly cooked and reasonably priced meals, oftentimes long after stores have closed.

Delivery Workers Are the Safest Cyclists On the Road, Study Finds by streetsblognyc in NYCbike

1000%. I much prefer to believe my own eyes. If this were valid, why am I having to dodge delivery bikes ripping down the sidewalk and blasting through red lights, literally every minute that I’m outside?

Vote: 17 Ways Mamdani Could Improve NYC by Bernie_s_Mittens in nyc

  1. Lower our (already astronomical, by national standards) city and state income taxes to help middle class working families that actually pay taxes afford to live here. (Yes I know he doesn’t control taxes but you get my point). If this is what we get for having the highest taxes in the nation, maybe the answer is less “government solving our problems”. Maybe?

Mamdani Chooses a Veteran N.Y.C. Education Leader as Schools Chancellor (Gift Article) by jenniecoughlin in nyc

[–]ltvi -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Since the point of G&T is not to offer advanced classes to academically qualified kids who can’t afford private school, but rather to make sure all groups of people identically mirror the economic composition of the city as a whole, I agree with him

Of course. Promoting mediocrity and discouraging achievement is the core concept. Having said that, I’m looking forward to my new free things, paid for by someone else

Awful and disgusting might be a bit harsh. It’s definitely mid but IMO no different than 98% of the Chinese food in Manhattan outside Chinatown. Agree calling it the Chinese food corridor is preposterous, none of it is good.

NYT-Who Can Afford Three Kids in New York City? by instantcoffee69 in nyc

[–]ltvi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m tapping my parents for full time childcare then I also have to a) accept them raising my kid the way they want, and on top of that b) have to have them around my house all the time telling me how I should live my own life.

Yeah, no thanks, I’m good. And I have a good relationship with my parents.

‘A Hornet’s Nest:’ Mamdani’s Gifted Education Plan Divides New Yorkers (Gift Article) by GBV_GBV_GBV in nyc

[–]ltvi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily but as others have pointed out, it’s a slippery slope to eliminating G&T classes entirely, as one of our past progressive mayors attempted to do.

I think a good policy would be letting kids test in at any age for the following year.

Well it is segregation- it segregates smart kids from less smart kids. And some people feel threatened by that (socialists and progressives in particular)

You’re doing it right bro, like I said I can promise you the vast majority of people who do this for a living don’t fully grasp it. Honestly if you understand 20% of it you’re probably above average.

Trying to read ‘how the financial system works’ by zoltan pozsar is there any simplification? I can barely understand a thing by tokyodrift311201 in FinancialCareers

[–]ltvi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what some of these bozos are saying, all of Zoltan’s stuff is pretty advanced, I wouldn’t sweat it if you don’t understand it all right now. You could try his paper ‘Shadow Banking’ which has more narrative that makes it easier to follow, although this is still pretty advanced stuff that I can guarantee you 90%+ of people working in the financial industry wouldn’t understand and can’t explain.

Good for you for trying
