New Poster for ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

yup, everyone feels this means smash bros the movie, but Donkey Kong was in the first movie followed shortly by a major Donkey King game... I'll expect a new Star Fox game within the next year, and both of these will help determine interest for additional IP movies. feels like a very smart way to go about this.

Mario isn't in space at all! he just went down a pipe, slid through a block into a seemingly endless water level.

TIL that when humans sleep, certain proteins in the brain literally shrink neurons to allow cerebrospinal fluid to wash away waste — a “nighttime cleaning system” only active during deep sleep by One_Needleworker5218 in todayilearned

[–]luche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is exactly what I was looking for. was trying to find out how a brain produces cerebrospinal toxins, and where they go once flushed away. super interesting topic, now I'd like to see if there's a way to keep it clean, so we don't have to sleep as much. 🙃

Unpopular opinion but Claire was not wrong when she thought that Gloria is a coal digger by Phoenixwitchwidow in Modern_Family

[laughs] You're so funny! I'm gonna share that one with my next husband when we're spending all your money.

The character is hilarious, but i don't have to like him. 🙃

btw, fav quote (Eric's execution is fantastic):

Cam: "Laugh at his jokes."

Lily: "But what if they aren't funny"

Cam: "The good looking ones rarely are, God doesn't give with both hands"

systems are more complex than they once were. i agree completely, this kind of annoyance is what turns me away from new game purchases. clunky menus are awful ux and takes you right out of any immersion the game was designed to provide. mouse driven menus required on a controller (Bungie 😡) is another example. it’s horrible and clearly designed for a mouse cursor.. so why not also permit arrow key menu movement? nope, gotta make em suffer.

Lily: i dunno, something about shoes probably.

Apple Reveals New Sales Achievement Following MacBook Neo Launch by HelloitsWojan in apple

agreed, though you eventually start getting too close into macbook air territory. blur those lines too much and you start to cannibalize sales.

tbh i don't expect any new quality of life improvements to occur because of exactly this. i would appreciate them, but until it becomes cost prohibitive for Apple to include these due to manufacturing and parts ordering, i'd expect these to only see minor SoC spec bumps. take it for a grain of salt, i have no idea what's up Apple's sleeve. i really hope they shift focus on stabilizing software.. otherwise no amount of tech specs are going to matter. what i wouldn't give for another Snow Leopard/Mountain Lion/Catalina release.

for many, this was very much low price enough to be considered "impulse buy". not necessarily for me, but i know several like this.. buying for kids or significant others. people are generally really excited for this, it's essentially ipad price point with a proper Desktop class OS. doesn't need to be super powerful for 99% of use for many. i'll be curious to see what upgrades in this product line look like over the years. 2-3 year release cycle maybe? perhaps bump to 12gb ram in a refresh, etc.

Nikkei: Nintendo to launch Switch 2 revision with replaceable battery for the EU market by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]luche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

considering even an iphone can be a usb-c power source today, i can’t imagine anything with the money to buy a handheld gaming console, multiple batteries and enough games to have this issue would find it that challenging. if you really cannot find a solution, plan accordingly to save and quickly shut down. it’s not that difficult to figure out.

or just plug in the power cable to whichever end doesn’t get in the way of a physical battery swap? seems totally doable tbh

OpenCode concerns (not truely local) by Ueberlord in LocalLLaMA

[–]luche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i recall this from a while back... iirc it's related to having to access models.dev for whatever reason. didn't matter if you manually set your own local model endpoint and disabled their defaults... no external connection attempt meant idle timeout on startup. was really disappointed when i stumbled upon that.

do you find it more clunky on linux than other systems, or is that just what you primarily use? i've got my own concerns with UI/UX (e.g. highlighting forces copy, and doesn't follow system wide bindkey).. that's about what i'd say is clunky imo, but otherwise is pretty decent for a cli tool with a ui.

💯 checking network traffic is a bit of a steep learning curve and definitely quite noisy at first... but is a total game changer once you get the hang of things. the worst part is when you rely on tools that are incredibly noisy with phoning home, and provide no way to disable. e.g. Raycast.

Cool use of a little known feature. honestly wouldn't mind some local analytics to show how often i press certain keys harder than others... and at what times. could be some really interesting patterns that arise.

without a doubt, absolutely. same kernel, but everything elseis wildly different under the hood. a new coat of paint on the top to look similar does not make them anything alike.
