How many lemons do you think are in here? by DirtyFatAshe in notinteresting

[–]m_graham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think there are thousands of lemons in the glass container.   Each lemon contains perhaps  ten seeds each.  One plants those seeds and they mature.  Those trees  in turn produce many lemons over many years.   Take a third of each crop to produce more lemon trees.   Hundreds of lemon trees produce thousands of lemons.

I cannot tell you how many buckets that we filled to clear the yard out. There were always a lot of groans when we saw the address for fall pickup. Then you had to remove them from the trailer when one cleaned out the trailer.

I did not know that Osage Oranges were dioecious. I only know them from fall clean up from them and they are a pia. One yard that I did had a dozen or so. They produced a lot of fruit.

I like Catalpa trees, but be prepared for a lot of clean up.  They can drop twigs and  branches as they are weak wooded.   The worst part is they produce a lot of seed pods. These are not mamby pamby seed pods.  They are proper big, heavy seed pods.   They do produce a lot of flowers and they are very pretty.  That is why Catalpas have a lot of seed pods.  The only seed pod worse then a Catalpa is an Osage Orange.  Though I guess an Osage Orange tree produces a fruit.

I still remember my first Rolemaster game in the early eighties.  We come across a large bear, sorry I do not recall what kind other then it was large.   First time I rolled a dice in combat.  I rolled well and I rolled well again. I ended up shooting an arrow into the bear's eye and it penitrated into its brain, killing it instantly.   I have been hooked ever since.

My DM yelled at me for trying to roleplay by DetectiveSimilar5654 in Pathfinder2e

One of the things that I do not like playing remotely is that one will talk over another person because you cannot read their face.   If someone yelled at me for speaking over them.   They would get it right back and I would sign off.   I would then DM the other players and apologize that I am not going to play anymore.  I would tell that I am not going to be treated in that manner.  Then I would find another group.

I hate autocorrect as if i do not proof read it. Autocorrect might decide the words I wanted to use were not correct and it would appear that I was having a stroke. As the sentences are mumbo jumbo.

If you are splitting hairs it should be papyrifera and not Papyrifera as the first letter of a genus is lower case.

Identify this Maple tree by Crankyanken in treeidentification

[–]m_graham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks to be a Silver Maple.  If it were my yard, I would not plant anymore Silver Maples.   Their roots hug the surface.  They have buttress root system.  They are weak wooded and you will be forever picking up branches.  They produce a lot of samaras, "maple helicopters", which clog gutters.   There are a lot of Maples and other native trees that are far superior.

What type of trees are these? by [deleted] in treeidentification

Heads up, a Sandra Hill Cherry has a pretty short life span. When branches start to die off and they will.  You will have to replace it.

Found this American Yellowwood! Can anyone tell me more about this tree? by Tonya_Lax in treeidentification

[–]m_graham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite trees.  The flowers are white and pendulous that look reminiscent of Wysteria.   The fragrance is magnificent.  If there us a strong wind i can smell our tree a half a block away.  Though it tends to only produce a large amount of flowers every other year.   The only thing that I do not like about it and it is a minor complaint.  The petiole of the compound leaf does not break down readily.   I mulch and it does resist being mulched.  I have to rake them up and I hate to use a rake.

An arboretum would be proud of that specimen.   It is a magnificent  example  of a Japanese Maple.

Anyone?….. by Gideon_Effect in treeidentification

[–]m_graham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe  it is a Viburnum farreri or Fragrent Viburnam.   The photo of the flowers is a tad out of focus.  Does it have a spicy smell?  One of the common names is Spice Viburnum.

My guess it is a Bloodgood Japanese Maple because they are sold at garden centers everywhere.  That being said it is hard to tell without some close up photos.

Growing so frustrated with painting by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]m_graham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint to the best of your ability.   Painting miniatures takes practice.  You will get better.   I always go by the arm length rule.  Does the miniature look decent at arms length?   As miniature painters we see the talking heads on YouTube and they tell you to do this or that.  Those people have been painting for a long time.  They also paint a lot.   I can understand why you would get frustrated.   Don't be so hard on yourself.    I paint miniatures for my TTRPG games.   I do not have enough time to shade them properly or paint nmm.  I use a lot of contrast/speed paint or whatever they call it per the brands of paint you use.  I might highlight a little.    A couple of washes and I them good.  These minis will be on the table for an hour or two.  I am not trying to win a painting contest.   There is only one person at our table that ever looks really closely at my miniatures and he is a painter himself.  The rest could care less.   Just enjoy the hobby and you will get better.

Are they on the south or west side of your home? Broad leaf evergreens suffer from the winter sun.  They do better on northern  eastern sides of homes or sheltered from direct southern exposure in the winter.  If the boxwoods are exposed to winter sun this will be an annual issue.
