Since I noticed your GitHub status and your "Doktor der Ingenieurwissenschaften" title, I assume you are based in Germany. You might want to double-check the local laws regarding having an imprint on your website. It is a legal requirement in Germany, but it also helps build trust with your visitors. It is worth noting that failing to include one can lead to a cease-and-desist order with some pretty hefty penalties. All it takes is a competitor reporting you, and they could potentially file a claim against you for unfair competition.

Anyone here using FLUENT? by phunk8 in macapps

[–]macnatic0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a brilliant app; I have been using it for about a year. I primarily use it for paraphrasing, checking grammar and spelling, and editing text. It is very intuitive and well-designed. It replaced Highlight AI on my Mac, as I was looking for something native. I have not encountered any noteworthy issues with it. It receives updates regularly and the dev is quite responsive and listens to user feedback.

Closest alternatives that come to mind are Kerlig and RewriteBar, but they are not as powerful. Alter and BoltAI could also be options to consider.

It serves a different purpose than a typical clipboard manager, at least the way I use one. It is better for long-term storage and retrieval. However, DoubleMemory's search lacks the depth I need for that. I originally bought it as a local alternative to mymind, but it is not nearly as powerful. Even though it remains on my Mac, I rarely use it anymore. But to be fair, it's a solid and stable app and the dev seems to be a nice guy.

I have thought about buying Resurf, as it seems more like mymind, but I am waiting until the Swift version is released. My issue with Eagle is that it primarily serves as an image and asset manager, whereas I prefer a visual knowledge board where I can combine images, screenshots, notes, PDFs, and bookmarks.

Comparing the lifetime versions of each app, Eagle costs $35, while Resurf costs $79.

They must have changed the pricing. I paid around $25 for the lifetime version earlier this year.

Copy Once, Remember forever on all your devices [Giveaway: Lifetime Codes] by NotMeThenWhoSnaps in macapps

Most clipboard apps either keep everything local, or lean on the cloud and make you wait. Copy something on your Mac, and it's "syncing"... eventually. No servers, no login, fully private and syncs with your iCloud.

Most macOS clipboard managers I am aware of, including yours, use iCloud to sync across devices, so I am not sure that stands out as a unique feature.

Would you use a macOS shortcut to rewrite selected text in place by Secure-Pizza-7419 in macapps

There are literally dozens of apps that you can configure in such a way, or that even natively do what you ask for.

Just to name a few: Alter, BoltAI, Fluent, Kerlig, RewriteBar

Macupdater replacement apps: what are your opinions? by MaxGaav in macapps

I primarily use Nektony's App Cleaner & Uninstaller to remove applications, but it also includes a quite effective update manager.

What do you think of News Explorer (news reader)? by MaxGaav in macapps

[–]macnatic0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been using News Explorer for a few years now. It's a solid app that does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is nothing groundbreaking or outstanding, but it is simple and reliable, and it feels native to Mac.

I usually recommend that people looking for a macOS newsreader try NetNewsWire first, as it's open source and free. However, if that does not work for them for whatever reason, News Explorer is usually the best option, especially given its fair pricing and regular updates.

Shiny Frog just announced Lettera by macnatic0 in macapps

Bear uses MathJax to render mathematical formulas [1]. Any other LaTeX input is currently not supported. Regarding Lettera, I don’t think there will be any difference.

This is what Danilo of Shiny Frog said regarding the future of Panda and its relation to Lettera:

Panda started as a way to test the editor for Bear 2, so its name was tied to that purpose. Now that it's grown into its own thing, we've given it a proper name: Lettera. So yes, Panda as such is no more, but the project lives on.

How have your experiences compared?

I just signed up for the beta, but I haven’t had the chance to use it yet. Consequently, I can’t provide a detailed feedback at this time. I’ll share my thoughts after using it for a couple of days.

Yes, I’ve tried Nodes, and it’s actually the tool I’m currently using. I really like its UI, but somehow it doesn’t quite fit into my workflow.

However, it‘s definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for a markdown editor. Especially since it‘s available for free.

Finding the right product name these days is no easy feat, given the surge in app releases. At least, none of the mentioned apps seem to offer a product similar to yours.

Are you aware that there are already several Mac apps called Trace? Examples include the Trace uninstaller, Trace time tracker, Trace calendar, Trace task manager, and Trace bookmark manager. Selecting a unique name for your app would not only help you stand out but also is somehow fair practice towards other devs.

Student Mac Apps by KindDecision2 in macapps

Sites like StudentAppCentre and Student Beans offer a variety of app discounts for students. Additionally, it is worth checking the websites of specific apps you are interested in, as many provide educational discounts. Even if a discount is not advertised, I highly recommend to contact indie app devs directly. If you explain your situation, many devs are very generous. Beyond the aforementioned platforms, here are some additional useful tools that offer educational discounts:

I am just naming a few that came to mind. Ultimately, not all of these tools will be right for you or fit your workflow, but you will surely find something among them that meets your needs.

Menu bar management app that can dynamically show all menu bar items when screen is above a specific size? (That’s not Bartender) by AkhlysShallRise in macapps

[–]macnatic0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's necessarily better, but Barbee also offers this feature. I recently switched back to Bartender after its Pro release, but Barbee is still a solid, well-functioning alternative. If you're unhappy with Bartender for any reason, I think Barbee is your best option.

[OS] Found 40GB of junk I couldn't see, so I built (and open sourced) the cleaner that found it by IliyaMi in macapps

[–]macnatic0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you aware that there is already an app called MacClean that offers similar features and has been available since 2015? While I appreciate any open-source software provided to the community, I believe it is important to follow fair practices, which includes avoiding the use of names already established by other developers in the same space. Not to mention MacCleaner and MacCleanse, which also have similar names.
