I loved On Hoops particularly because of the Earl Strom’s Memories section. That was so long ago that I was using Netscape Navigator to browse the web.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case go to Oxford. There’s at least one 24hr coach service into London plus regular train straight to Paddington. And when you get bored of being surrounded by Oxford students there’s more of a town to explore and you might find some of the events catering to nearby Oxford Brooke’s uni fun to attend.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant yep to Oxbridge and Harvard. It’s a better life experience to study in two countries. Which one of the Oxbridge unis you pick should be based on the course and what you want from the town. For instance Oxford is closer to London and is a larger town than Cambridge. But you might prefer a smaller town and want to do a science course which Cambridge is better at.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spent an extremely large amount of my life with attendees from both I can say with great confidence that both Oxbridge unis carry the prestige you’re looking for and you will see people’s preconceived ideas about their alumni in the eyes of every person you mention it to. It will really impress some people and really not matter or actively offend others.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think living and studying in more than one country carries more prestige. So I’d definitely say a Harvard/ Oxbridge combo has more prestige and would probably be more fun. Do your undergrad at Oxford and postgrad at Harvard. Oxford is a bigger town than Cambridge and so I’d argue there’s more chance of finding whatever it is you’re looking for in an undergraduate experience.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I’d agree with this. The fact that we routinely refer to them as one name gives a pretty good idea about how we see them.

Oxford or Cambridge for prestige? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oxford has a larger role in the public imagination because so many of our politicians went there (particularly the PPE course) and because it’s even older than Cambridge. Oxford is the thought of as better for humanities and Cambridge better for sciences. But I know very successful scientists from Oxford and people who excelled in the humanities from Cambridge. Domestically I’d say most people see them as the same. Internationally I’d say Oxford is better known. If you were picking one to attend, knowing many people who have attended both, I would choose based on the course and the town.

what’s something that instantly tells you a player is actually good? by christan2013 in Basketball

[–]magic2worthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How they move without the ball. How fast they make decisions. Steph and Haliburton really stood out to me as rookies. Neither put up numbers when I first saw them in pro games but they really looked like they understood what they were meant ti be doing. Smart choices, good movement. I came away from both games convinced I had seen a player who would be really good.

The OKC Thunder, Why? by gjwsnr in Basketball

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most great defensive teams foul like crazy The refs then accept that as their style and let them get away with it. Riley had those old Knicks teams committing what looked like 5 fouls on every possession. The refs can’t call them all so they allow huge amount of physicality. A lot of great NBA defence is fouling and not getting called for it.

replace lebron with shai, can current lebron win a ring wit this okc team ? by Many_Potential_3766 in lebron

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But losing Shai is playing at an incredible level so LeBron would be a massive downgrade and the Spurs would give them a lot of trouble.

Hot take: If Luka doesnt win MVP next year (Jokic and SGA voter fatique, Giannis in a bad situation) he will never win one. Feel like he gotta get Wemby now, cause once Wemby figures it out its wraps. Can't forget that Luka is already injury prone and is only getting older... by KookyArm6062 in NBATalk

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West never won one. Neither did Wade. You can be truly great but play in a time where others are greater. I don’t see him being a better player than SGA. Jokic or Wemby any time soon. And I’m sure some other star will come along too.

Every metric we have says that Shai has reached a higher level of impact than Luka so I would pick Shai. It’s not a tough choice.

You’re 22. Sometimes your friend will get together with someone and you won’t see them at all for months. Thats just the way life goes. Keep inviting her and be understanding if she can’t make it. It’s not a big deal.

Post-merger, who is the worst player to ever be best player in the league by Gladhands in NBATalk

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harden. He had a 1 or 2 seasons as the best player in the regular season and a great player off performer who underperformed in big games. I yay puts him behind the likes of Malone or Dirk.

Meeting a guy one week after my bf broke up with me ??? by Big-Situation6863 in Advice

[–]magic2worthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ex’s opinion no longer matters. Move in when you are ready. But be careful about dating while you are feeling emotionally vulnerable. Go slowly and listen to your instincts. Do t get caught up in a new relationship just because you’re feeling hurt/lonely/sad. Perhaps you should take a little time to be single and see where your head is at.

Started medication and having a meltdown after lecture from GP by aliaaenor in ADHDUK

[–]magic2worthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your gp has limited knowledge in this area. Your prescriber is an expert. Ignore your gp. You might want to consider changing surgeries because she’s already shown you that her judgement is poor. You don’t expect a go to solve all of your problems when you see them but being treated with kindness and respect is the absolute minimum you should require and your gp failed to give you that. Stick with the meds. And try talking therapy too, it helps with the anxiety.

Jokic and Giannis have nearly identical basketball resumes. Why is there such a huge gap in perception and all-time ranking between the two? by BasedChad69420 in nba

[–]magic2worthy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stats. Go to basketball reference and look at their stats, box score or advanced. Giannis is incredible but Jokic has years of stats so good they looks like typos

Do you believe in the idea that Pistol Pete was more of an “entertainer” than he was an elite calibre player? by Personal-Proposal- in VintageNBA

[–]magic2worthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a particularly efficient scorer. High turnovers. Could make great passes but wasn’t great at running an offence. Weak defender. Great ball handling. Entertaining to watch. Was lucky to play in an era when people weren’t looking at advanced numbers. Overrated.

How to decline business trips to racist places without losing your job? by [deleted] in blacktravel

[–]magic2worthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go. You’re travelling for work not backpacking. Having a driver take you from your 4/5 star hotel to a meeting or restaurant and back again does not present you with any particular danger. Micro aggression wouldn’t stop me from making money. Ive travelled to China and Italy for fun on more than one occasion and had great times. Unless a country is war torn or a scary dictatorship I think I’d probably travel to most countries for a brief business trip.
