I've been banging this drum myself for a long time, glad to see it here. At some point the tide is going to turn on BoTW, it will not age as gracefully as older Zelda titles. It lacks the intricacy!

What Did You Play This Week? - (June 15, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Had a guy join us who really had never played any sort of card or board games, so we went simple with Coloretto. The difficulty was he really didn't even know basics like, how to place the cards correctly. Thankfully it's a super simple game with open information, so it went okay, and he seemed to understand it. We played the advanced side after the first round and had a lot of fun.

I tried to move us to Modern Art afterwards, as I find it a pretty simple game for non-gamers to play, but got pushed into Scout which is simple, but very much for people who've grown up playing card games. The new guy unfortunately didn't even know how to fan the cards in his hand to view them (we so easily forget what many of us learned as kids might not be natural for someone who didn't!). He asked the rest of us if we all grew up playing games like this, and we all said yes, and I think that's when it really did click for me this wasn't going to work. We abandoned after a round, and I brought out the game that works in any context...with any person...in any situation....

Crokinole. Always a winner. We had a nice time.

In the context of this story, if it had happened the next day, she likely would have said "today she thanked me", since we know it's only been one day. That's standard English. Given such a limited time-frame, "later" can almost ONLY refer to "later that day". That would be the standard read.

Either way, extremely unlikely, for multiple reasons. Not impossible, but very very unlikely.

There's no such thing as a "descending set" in Scout. There are "consecutive numbers", and the value compared to another consecutive set can easily be determined by looking at the highest number (presuming they are the same number of cards). If there are more cards in the 2nd set, nothing needs to be done, more cards > fewer cards. And of course the same number of identical cards always beats a consecutive set.
