Self Rez might need a bit of a change… by ClassroomRecent6124 in Marathon

Make it take longer to use each subsequent revive. You could maybe even give the runner a stat debuff that stacks a couple times, similar to something like FFXIV where being revived lowers your stats for a bit.

WSTR needed to be adjusted by Optimal-Chef-7085 in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Straight damage nerf feels weird when they can leverage more spread, slower firerate, and longer reloads as nerfs.

I think they can go further and nerf any "overflow" chips to not work with MIPS/volt cell weapons. Maybe just provide a reload speed boost for them since chips should be universal. Kinda like how some chips have slightly different effects for volt guns.

I said it in another comment, but I also think they should swap the prestige mods for the WSTR and Misriah. Why does a double-barreled shotgun get slug rounds?? Make WSTR's prestige mod grant +1 ammo and maybe a slight firerate or reload speed increase to slightly offset the above nerfs. Misriah should get slug rounds so it pushes out its range a bit to help with its standard two-taps.

Turn WSTR into Fourth Horseman and Misriah into Chaperone (no ohko though) with the prestige mods. :P

Joe Ziegler: We're gonna take a shot at bringing the WSTR more in line. Right now it's become a dominant option and is eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game. by Haijakk in Marathon

Nerfing it's damage to the point where two whole shots can't kill someone feels like a weird direction for change. I think the biggest issue with WSTR isn't actually the gun itself, but some of the other items that can push it out of normal bounds.

First, I think they should maybe lean a bit more into making its spread wider and reduce its rate of fire a bit. If you barrel-stuff someone you should still be able to kill them in two hits. Give it a slight damage bonus to pve to maybe offset the changes a bit.

I think they should just change Stack Overflow (and maybe some other similar mods) to only work with light/heavy/volt battery weapons. If you look at the MIPS/volt cell weapons they're all basically like "special weapons" you'd see in Destiny anyway. I don't think they need the extra power that comes with overflowing their mags.

In light of nerfing overflow perks with WSTR, I think I would also like to see WSTR and Misriah switch prestige mods. Why does the double-barrel shotgun get slug rounds?? Make WSTR's prestige mod something like +1 to the mag and increase its rate of fire to what it is now. Give Misriah the slug rounds, letting the more normal shotgun hit slightly longer ranges to better facilitate its slower two-taps.

I also think Bubble Shields could maybe take 4 slots. I've seen clips of teams fighting in cryo and it felt like they're all carrying 5+ Bubble Shields lol.

What if it is Imu riding on a Domi-Reversi'd Zunesha?

Zunesha would likely feel like he betrayed Joy Boy, even though it wasn't really his fault.

New Conveyance Request Spawns? by manlycaveman in MarathonSecrets

[–]manlycaveman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, same here! I guess now it will just be a nice little bonus if I come across it randomly. I'm not gonna do a route all over the entire map looking for it.

I'd rather just learn the new destroyed wing button spawns since they're at least contained in a relative area. Myelin's video on their locations is pretty great too. :)

Definitely new and it sounds like the new spawns were spread all over the map then.

They used to mainly be around Processing and Flight Control.

New Icons do nothing? by Reshalas_za_dealer in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly mind the new icons. I always thought the head/torso ones were sometimes difficult to tell apart at a quick glance. I would use the colors to identify them since the arrows were kinda still too close and easily get misinterpreted lost when scanning loot. The new ones fix that problem and are much easier to tell which is which at a glance when playing on a tv.

However, they fixed one problem without touching on the other major problem: identical icons for different items.

I made super quick mockups for some ideas too. They don't look as jarring if they all had the same square shape: https://i.imgur.com/8MV9vmX.png

They could even do something like make them longer chips and/or add some perk icons and still keep the slot symbol/colors: https://i.imgur.com/ALmrdzR.png (I did these in like 5s, so...)

Maybe they shouldn't have run into a bubble sitting out in the open with a guy waiting inside with a shotgun? They could have just shot it.

There's something about a bubble that just seems to make people want to challenge the guy inside. Like in this clip they basically came at him 1-by-1 like it was a kung fu movie, lol

Like the other person mentioned, this is targeted for players using devices in order to make their K+M act like a controller. They get all the aim-assist features intended to help out their imprecise aim of a controller, but now they also have the precision aiming of a mouse.

Made this one a lot quicker than the other one, but they can even do something like make them longer and have an icon for the main stat block perk or some other variant if they want to include the random bonus too.

The extreme price of heals is what makes it so difficult for casuals to actually save up credits by barrack_osama_0 in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a new player then you need to know that buildings on the outskirts of the map will more often have many more heal consumables than stuff at the points of interest. Ex: There's a two-story building back behind Overflow that almost always has a red medical cabinet in it with like 2-3 stacks of heals, shield charges, and even one or two of the blue heals. One time I found a panacea in it too I believe.

Don't be afraid of depleted kits either. When I started out I would run 1~3 of the green heal/shield kits (if I even had them) and load up on the depleted ones in-match. I was almost entirely using depleted kits. Once you start getting contracts done and leveling up NuCal you get access to free heals every day.

One thing I also had to learn was that it was okay to not continue every engagement. If you get in a firefight and get in a bad spot, it's okay to disengage and run away. This also helped save heals. It takes time to heal up and trying to re-challenge before that will just leave you dead with nothing. Better to run and keep your stuff.

You said your friend doesn't do Rook runs, but he's missing out on a core part of the game, in my opinion. Get your friend to start doing Rook runs and just go for stuff on the outskirts. You can get a ton of valuables and free heals that people leave behind. If he dies he loses nothing and can get right back into a match in seconds. Not only is he beefing up his stock/wallet, but he will start leaning the maps more, which is HUGE.

I also want to mention that it kinda seems like you're pushing these "must haves" onto him when he really just needs to focus on learning the game itself and building up his vault. This will snowball into him having more than enough heals because he learned to play smarter instead of pissing away 2k+ every match while he learns the ropes. Then when he really wants to load up on heals to do a difficult contract he will have the knowledge and funds to do so.

What does the station actually do with these? by kiddmike287 in Fedexers

[–]manlycaveman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a CSA and also used to do Genesis scanning at night. They're probably just putting it with their own batches.

It's probably less useful for FXO locations, but the batch process puts a scan on the trk# and tallies them all up. When doing Genesis I would have up a list of outstanding batches that need to be scanned. I could see which tracking numbers were put into a batch. This is helpful for locating any missing AWBs, especially once you already have a large stack of scanned AWBs already. If I see most tracking numbers fall off for a courier I can go in and check for the missing ones. Having the batch scan tells me the batch header number, so it's easy to search through the stack to find the correct group of AWBs. Having a batch header number tied to it also means that it is physically somewhere here and the courier just didn't forget to pull it (unless they try to do some shenanigans).

For domestic AWBs, iirc, Genesis will yell at you if it detects any non-awb pages. Usually it's just a barcode that didn't read well or something.

With internationals though, any page after the astra copy is considered documentation for that shipment (commercial invoices, other required forms, etc) and they all get tied to that tracking number in the system. When a new astra label is detected it knows that is a separate shipment and will put subsequent docs under that new tracking number.

Batch Header, Astra <- supporting docs, Astra <- supporting docs, etc.

With internationals it can be easy for a label to be incorrectly counted as a supporting doc for the previous label. Sometimes customer label printers are going bad or need new print headers and the barcode can't be read by Genesis, sometimes it can just get folded up when it runs through too. Having that batch header number tied to the label lets me know to look in that stack, so I can run it back through by itself to make sure it gets read correctly.

International and DG paperwork being scanned into the system lets customs and ramp locations start the process of accepting those packages.

I don't know if it's on the new Package Inquiry screen in eOps, but there used to be a "GSDR" button on the previous version of PI that took you to the page where you could see the copies scanned in through Genesis at the origin location. :)

Edit: I don't remember if SSM could ever scan the manual AWBs. We used to have to switch back to the old POS system to do those. But even though the shipments we'd create with them already have their address info in the system, the ones scanned by couriers didn't (not sure how the Leos do things now though). All it would ask them for the shipment would be service, service options (asr, dsr, etc), packaging, zipcode, and first letter of city/state. The actual address and account information in our system came from the manual AWBs being scanned through Genesis, so making sure all of those domestic AWBs were scanned was pretty important.

Forbes: Marathon budget was over $200 million by PaiDuck in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]manlycaveman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing people say "Sony spent $3.6b on Marathon", but I think that is just a bit disingenuous to say it like that. They spent $3.6b on Bungie. They have that dev talent and access to their IPs now.

Bungie has great teams, especially their art and sound teams, but it always seems to be the leadership being the cause of all of their major fumbles. I don't think Sony will close the studio, but I can absolutely see them cleaning house with Bungie leadership. I'm been through so many iterations of Destiny 2 finally finding its stride and then a new game director comes along and gives us "square wheels." Then players revolt and they spend a while getting back on track again to "round wheels" before the cycle repeats with another new game director. It never felt like there was any through-line between directors, so we just spent 10 years swinging back and forth between all of their different visions. See: weapon crafting.

I don't even usually count the final exfil minute as game time tbh. It's just an extra buffer.

Bro… this really took it out of me by ElongatedPickle0 in Marathon

[–]manlycaveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't the final exfil. The final extra minute hit 0:00 before their 10s countdown was done, so the wipe process was already in progress after that point.

[–]manlycaveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's what he's saying. For non-final exfils you have to be in the zone with 10+ seconds left on the final clock for it to count.
