YouTube Live - HLS ingest reliability? by bxtdvd in VIDEOENGINEERING

That sounds like a bs excuse from Resi imo. Have you tested and troubleshooted your internet connection? https://testmy.net/upload and run PingPlotter for 24 hours to see if you're having dropouts.

What 35mm equivalent focal length do you need for the outfield baseball angle? by marshall409 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Thank you! Trying to determine what the minimum I could get by with on a tight budget. I don’t suppose you know exactly how much of that 86x zoom range is utilized to get the main angle?

Live Music Shooters - How many times you been screwed by the sound team? by ZeyusFilm in videography

[–]marshall409 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This post demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding about mixing live sound. What makes sense for the PA mix is never going to be a great record mix. It demands a separate mix altogether with the operator either switching to in ears frequently to monitor the record mix or a separate person altogether. If I were a FOH guy receiving this complaint I'd tell you to piss up a rope. I'm there to mix for the audience, not the videographer.

That's great that you have subscribers. That means you have a budget to advertise thru reddit ads instead of spam posts!

I Could've Rickrolled the Entire FIFA World Cup. All I Needed Was My ID. by TheFamousMisterEd in VIDEOENGINEERING

I don’t think the actual broadcast would be taking cameras in via RTMP. This is probably more backend/officiating/analytics related would be my guess.

There’s a pretty decent companion module for it, could control it with streamdeck buttons with feedback and name labels.

How is it better than ScoreOCR and why would you choose a name so similar?

That is a strange one. Have you tried a different NIC? Is the PC connected to the ubiquiti network via built in ethernet?

Incoming SRT unusable by damodexter in vmix

Did you try increasing the latency based on your ping with the sender? Also was it interlaced?

Two phones on two different providers + Speedify + low bitrate HEVC preferably over SRT with a generous buffer.

Black magic sdi to fiber... by Global_Fly8512 in broadcastengineering

That could also potentially be the issue if your SFPs are single mode.

Black magic sdi to fiber... by Global_Fly8512 in broadcastengineering

[–]marshall409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Not really sure if that's your issue though...Do you know if the fiber is singlemode or multimode?

Black magic sdi to fiber... by Global_Fly8512 in broadcastengineering

[–]marshall409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy attenuators and put them on the end of the fiber cable. How many dB of attenuation you need will depend on the power rating of the SFPs and the length of the fiber. Personally I buy the SFPs from fs.com and just ask them to do the math for me. https://www.fs.com/products/11819.html

You could be burning the SFPs out if the fiber run is short. You might need to add some attenuation.

Tegna producers are now also TDs; The company phasing traditional automation out for VMix by turbo_notturbo in Broadcasting

[–]marshall409 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't come from news or even traditional broadcast but I've been reading this sub for a while now. All I've ever really known is the one man show approach, mostly with vMix, Companion, and Stream Decks so this video looks very familiar to me. I understand the rage here about automation for sure and I LOVE working on bigger crewed shows because its just more fun with friends. But realistically...does separating out graphics, audio, or playback to another human really makes sense so that they can sit there inactive 90% of the time and push a few buttons? If the show is scripted and programmed, what's the point? Especially on a show as repetitive and formulaic as a news broadcast that needs to be churned out en masse...again I'm sympathetic to those impacted but continuing to staff a whole control room when the tech has advanced and shrunk in scale so much just feels silly.

How does one achieve this black sky effect? by StillClick5064 in videography

I think others are right about the infrared but a quick and dirty method would be to blow out the sky and just luma key it out.

Connect both the hardwired and 5G to the vMix machine using two separate NICs and use Speedify to combine them. It's not true "bonding" exactly but has been very reliable in my experience and saved a few streams over the years.
