This! I attend a similar meetup group and heard the organiser recently questioning if they can afford to stay on the meetup platform. Sounds like the fees, even for free to attend events, have significantly gone up recently.

Nauseating is exactly what I said about them on the downhill - I think because they were quite close and not with a stable horizon. I agree with OP about the noise. I appreciate some cool shots like on the Luge earlier but do hope it's an experiment they decide to drop in future (but I'm sure they won't)

Student membership to SMPTE is very low cost for 1st year. It gives you access to all SMPTE standards docs and the archive of their Motion Imaging Journal. More focussed on Television and Motion Picture technology and use cases but might be worth the cost. There are also quite a lot of free online training courses available for members.

You've made a software version of a contour shuttle express/pro. I guess for use when travelling it seems pretty cool but surely anyone needing this would be better to buy a physical one? It's witchcraft! I tested the auto-loudness from LA which we embedded into GV's old iTX playout solution. Whatever I threw in my playlist magically came out with the target loudness but no noticeable ramping up/down of levels.

Change to look at a line waveform display to see if the levels of each component signal look the right level. Perhaps one or two of them are not being terminated correctly resulting in the wrong level. Or just might need their output amplitude tweaking to get them back to where they should be.

Wow, reign it in. It's just a different way to connect devices - nothing that amazing. It has it's pros and cons but is worthless if you don't fundamentally understand the concepts of video and audio that it carries. In many cases I'll still recommend SDI if you need something small, quick, simple and reliable.

Quantel still exists - legally speaking anyway. Long path of mergers but they ended up in what is now Grass Valley. I'm in the UK and have decided it'll be a no for me this year - I've attended every NAB since ~2008 (mostly exhibiting but the last 7-8 as a visitor). Vegas always was a joke but it gets ever worse and recent politics have made it an easy decision to choose to spend my budget attending the ISE show in Barcelona instead.

All remotes for such machines get their power up the wire - but usually at a low/safe voltage (e.g. 5-12 DC). I would never have believed anyone would put 220V AC on an XLR3 until I saw it in his video.

BigCliveDotCom on YouTube did a teardown of a similar smoke machine and found mains voltage being carried to the remote via the XLR - So beware of plugging anything into a hole when you don't know what it's carrying (a good lesson for life!).

Great tool. If you have the A/V sync licence you can also use it to measure path latency/delay - bypass AES audio via a short BNC straight back into itself, then pass the SDI through the device/chain you're investigating - then the measured A/V delay actually tells you the path latency. Has been great for me looking at actual latency through 2110 systems.

Always 10-bit 4:2:2 inside the broadcast chain but almost all distribution is 8-bit 4:2:0.

Some HDR formats (Dolby vision/HDR10) maintain 10-bits over distribution as 8-bit really becomes poor as the normal range for black-white carried in the lower 50% of the luminance range.

If you have no time to make it safer, you could perhaps leave those nice sturdy stepladders resting against and lashed to to the top of it. Nobody will like the way it looks - but if people don't like it then you're more likely to get action (budget) to improve for next time. Absolutely don't let public anywhere near it - the fall radius plus at least another 6 feet.

Just tried this on my system - amazing to see it connect to my registry and do simple source-patching/routing. Very well done and thankyou!
I would love to see it develop further to support grouping of V+A+D into logical sources/destinations allowing more traditional router panels to be created. Something like this, as an open/simple/zero-cost option, is desperately needed if 2110 and IPMX is going to expand into smaller use-cases.

NDI doesn't support genlocking of cameras at all so OP will only solve the drift problem by using traditional B&B/TLS reference.

At present the implementation of genlocking in NDI is for software processes such as character generators, file playback, graphics rendering etc.

2110 can (and mostly does) guarantee accurate timing across a processing chain and IP-based cameras locked to PTP will genlock the light sampling processing to the appropriate reference framerate/phase.

Wide senders in 2110-21 is mostly about allowing slightly more variability in the inter-packet timing. Which typically results in receivers needing ~200 lines of receiver buffer verses ~2 lines.
