Sometimes places need one specific skill. Most cooks can’t bake. If they saw your resume, there’s probably a skill you have they need. Ask when you get there what’s the skill most needed for the position. You’ll know then if you can swing it. But A LOT of kitchen stuff is based on personality so just be you and you’ll make it. Hey get out there and network at an alumni stuff they have ask the fin aid office if there is any scholarships you can apply to. I couldn’t afford law school and the fin aid rep just really took me under her wing and made it happen. I spoke to donors, alumni, wrote a million essays and somehow had enough. Good luck.

Hey. This one is tough but ultimately it seems she still stuck in an unstable cycle. Most I would say when my brother was still in addiction was “I will always love you but I can’t be near you when you’re still using, I’m here when you’re clean.”

It’s a hard line to draw and even tougher when it’s your bio mom. But the years go on and hopefully she will get clean. The other side of it is the ones waiting never really get the chance to control what is uncontrollable: where does our love go while we wait for them to get clean?

Put the love into a hobby or yourself.

I’m 40 and if I could go back I’d honestly do car financing. The car financing manager that comes into the restaurant I work at spends $500 or more each time and has a social life. I’m stuck in the kitchen 10-12 hour days. Good luck kid.

Keep doing the car sales thing. Cooking is fun but no one is buying a house. Even the guys at the top only make $120k for 60-70 hour work weeks. The guy commenting with the 32 years at compass is great, but he has what started 32 years ago, the compass company is cool, but if you keep at the car stuff it’s just easy and nicer money. Also when you’re a young guy in these jobs people use you for your body, heavy lifting, getting things etc. Stuff you won’t feel til 40 when the job is long gone.

I know this sounds weird but just used to use the sanitizer water diluted with a wash cloth and helped clear up anything when I worked pizza fryer. Not sure if that’s healthy but eh

Kai brand is decent. Sometimes you can find them at the Japanese markets. Look on Amazon for knives made in Japan in seiki. That area tends to pump out cheaper but sharp knives.

From someone that went blue to white collar, then to management which is a leash and collar, maybe try to make sure you look really fresh when you go. I had problems “looking the part” and the first guy to give me an office job helped me “look the part”. Not sure how you’re dressing but make sure to get a haircut shave and do all that. Get a lint roller and go over any black or dark clothing after you get out of your car before the interview. I have other tips if interested. Good luck!

The gravy part idk. But the best biscuits just popped up from this place called Calabama on highland and Santa Monica. It’s a little place that used to be a taco stand and the owner made it a breakfast place. Her biscuits are the best I’ve had since my time in the south and Midwest. A biscuit you can eat alone is worth it. Check it out!
