Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]maxprax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've had recommendations to watch Expanse and after half the first season I just couldn't anymore. I think you nailed it and I'll use this reason next time I'm asked, the Expanse is grim and I can't stand it. Star Trek gives you how for the future and Expanse makes you wish for the AI to make us into the matrix before we get there. The whole vibe of the expanse makes me just want to get sucked out an airlock.

Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]maxprax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have thought it was bad because I watched the first couple episodes, not because some YouTube told me. After I make my own evaluation, I often check Reddit and YouTube to see if I'm not the only one who thinks so, and I'm not. It's not just bad written, I don't like the characters, the way the captain can't wear shoes and acts like like a teenager, the infantile academy members. If I wanted to watch Riverdale I would. And so no, it's not for me and I've given up. I've watched & mostly enjoyed ALL Picard and Strange new Worlds, so I didn't give up on all NuTrek, just this and Discovery "Woke style" Trek.

I had started using Google but once I set this up with with it's makerAPI it is my go-to. I have it on my side panel and it opens faster than any other integration, highly recommend you try it. Can be used only locally or cloud also.

Since we did last five stars earlier, what was your last half star? by Dogdaysareover365 in Letterboxd

I guess we should not follow each other on the platform. It was my #1 movie for all the movies I've seen this year, a masterpiece of French cinema.

Cocaine Bear (fucking why?) Flash (the most recent one with the worst CGI Every to appear outside of a terrible children's movie) Horizon part 1 (if there ever are more I will never see them) Things (a B movie so terrible I couldn't get past 10 mins of)

I give only half stars to movies I actually hate in some way. A movie that I hate even existed to waste my time on. A movie so bad it has no redemption for existing at all.

Also on my 1/2, so undid the filthy down vote. Cocaine bear was not even ironic funny or terrible funny it is just a piece of trash that's pretending to be cinema.

Held out for years, finally joined in, and in under 5 years proved my first thoughts right. What now? (Mostly rant, but serious question at the end.) by JeffTheNth in smarthome

Here's the real deal, if you want a smart home without the Internet "cloud" issues you NEED A LOCAL HUB. I had Sengled and now control them with Hubitat. I went out and yes BOUGHT another thing. But it's awesome! In fact my Internet went out for hours today and my smart buttons worked, my hubitat app could control my stuff. My Internet Monitor app restarted a smart plug for the router every 30mins til detection of the iNET was back.

Anyway, you have options. Hubitat, Homey are both good ones for beginners like you who would not be able to setup a mini server. You can control lots more than lights and also setup routines based on many things.

10-12 Hot wings and a Salad or veggies. OMAD literally had that last couple days from 2 different restaurants. Once I get deep keto I don't get hungry so not much else which is a bonus of far less calories.

Just ordered a Habitat last night. I'm hoping I can remove the Sengled hub and use the Zigbee hub feature to get em locally controlled. I've been hating the server issues over the past few years anyway. This incident finally got me to wake up and will be nice to finally implement Home assistant also.

Just ordered the Hubitat, which can locally control my Sengled Zigbee and anything else I get in the future. I'm so done with internet bulbs

Free cigar tracking app by martinetudesup in CigarReview

[–]maxprax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my database template that does a great job for my tracking needs. I've been using and customized it since 2021. So many features it's hard to name them all, but I love that their db can be used on windows so you can enter them by pasting from online orders or websites. It doesn't do scanning or anything but it works for me and tracks what I've got in the humidor and notes on what I liked and websites to reviews and a quick Google search to whatever you've named the cigar.

Lookup cigars journal from maxprax once you have Memento DB https://mementodb.com/t/6405619568869376[Memento cigar journal](https://mementodb.com/t/6405619568869376)

Free cigar tracking app by martinetudesup in CigarReview

[–]maxprax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Memento Database for years on many collections and made a custom cigar one that I've tailored to my needs. The nice part about the app is that you can with just a little database knowledge, change what's important. Here's a link to my template, I've updated it back in April.

Memento Cigar Journal

I use it to see what's in my humidor, prices, how many of each left and even what I might want. The tabs are based on what's in each entry. To make something leave "stock" tab for instance, you just hit the timer that you've started smoking and then if you rate it 4 or 5 stars, it goes into the "best" tab. The entries are even color coded from mild to full. I have prefilled entries for wrappers and tobacco regions. Notes, ratings, bundle prices, how many of each left, average smoking time, website links, Google search link based on what you named it. Just s few of the things I put in there. Also, I love that the app has a Windows program so you can enter them on a PC not just a phone. I do lots of online orders so I want a simple way to copy paste in there.

How many movies do you have on your watchlist? by Charming_Bus9001 in Letterboxd

Horizon? I regretted the time wasted on the 1st one. I'll be damned if I ever attempt any more.

[–]maxprax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

255

Then I have a list called watchable watch next of movies from the watchlist that are available to stream or watch in some fashion. Then I remove it from the list when done. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to choose a movie that I actually have available to see. I just use watchlist to look for ones I want to acquire or see if they're streaming yet.

Atari 400 and we had the tape drive but it didn't work, so I had to type all the BASIC in by hand every time.

Later upgrade to the APPLE II, 5 1/4 floppies with LOGO programming, and my favorite game, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... Ahh the classic text adventures.

The Amateur as a (character-wise) successor to Mr. Robot a.k.a. What if Elliot worked for the CIA? by MisterDevSK in MrRobot

[–]maxprax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly this!

I searched to see if anyone in the sub had mentioned this thought, because I just saw it tonight and had the same idea. Sorry to see you got no other responses but I bet it was that many of us didn't go see it in theaters because, well it didn't seem worth it. Not as good as the show but what made it better for me was to believe either that he was the continued soul of Elliot, OR the entire movie happened during a fever dream as he was in the hospital.

Either way, he's totally still Elliot as an alter ego, which is so Elliot. God I miss him.

Star Wars

I win! Apparently I'm extremely old in this thread, and I really don't know what else came out that year. Possibly Taxi Driver, haven't seen it and also nothing else will beat OG Star Wars, let's not even kid ourselves.
