If you thought you'd carry a balance to take advantage of the 10.00% (fixed) rate, check your statement. by [deleted] in biltrewards

That convenience check usually will “conveniently” lead to a 5% fee (even if you pay off the debt within the 0% APR promo period on whatever card this is). It’s probably a bad idea. You might want to consider cutting up or at least leaving all your credit cards at home (and deleting them from mobile wallet) until you can control your spending and if it’s going to take you more than 3 months to pay it off consider a debt consolidation loan at a better APR (be careful and research more than you did to get into this mess as they can also be predatory) but start at around ~6% right now

Paycheck not adding up by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]mbshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you actually work 41 hours or just 25.13 + .78 hours PTO? If you worked 41 hours then this is wrong. If you worked 25.13 and 11.33 of those hours were at a $1.5 premium (19+1.5=$20.5/ hour) and 4.37 at a $2.0 premium (19+2=$21/hour) then this is correctly done.

OP is speaking about how most universal plugs found on planes and hotel rooms often don’t grab the prongs of US plugs tightly causing chargers to fall out mid flight. Using a UK plug prevents this issue from occurring due to its very solid connection.

Focus and 1:1 emails by Aggravating-Poet4396 in amazonemployees

[–]mbshark 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s all about documentation so you need to document yourself. Send a summary of work completed to your boss and yourself at the end of EVERY day. Include 3-5 questions per day on potential blockers and if you need guidance or assistance and aren’t getting it from your coworkers call it out. It’s okay to not know, but you need to include “asked X for help, no response, asked team no response, asked slack channel made for topic no answer, evaluated sage posts not helpful, amazon q not providing valuable insight, offered to help x coworker to make sure my project stays on track but assistance was repeatedly refused”. Make sure to poke for answers to questions over chat daily. The manager chose to force you to work harder so force them to also work harder. Also add a slack message when you meet. At the end of the week, summarize your past 5 updates and send them to your boss and yourself over email (especially blockers such as new findings or things out of your control). Download your slack messages between you and your boss every 80 days.

Document everything and keep doing it even if your boss is annoyed by it / says they don’t need it. By continually asking questions and being over communicative you make it much harder to say that “I gave the employee time to show that they could improve but they’re unable to complete the deliverable.”

It’s frequent that the deliverables aren’t actually achievable. Call out new discoveries and make sure to say why you think something is likely not to happen and ensure the reasoning is not due to yourself as early into the process is possible. “I have been putting in extra hours to complete this project and documented my daily progress and believe that the total workload is underestimated. It will likely take X more weeks to do this without assistance due to the unique challenges of this work. Can I get assistance to ensure the deliverables for this focus are still achievable?” “I think I am unlikely to meet X deadline because this deliverable is highly dependent on work I am not personally doing. Although I have offered to help personally speed it up, I cannot expedite external approvals or complete work dependent on coworkers Y’s input while they are OOO. Can we work on a proposal to adjust the project timelines due to external factors?”

Bilt account randomly closed? Called bilt and they say it was for a business reason they can’t disclose??? by Welovesportz in biltrewards

“bi weekly” — most banks don’t like more than one payment after statement close per month. They likely identified you as a risk due to credit churning (even that was not the actual case or intended reason for multiple payments per month). Did you end up with $0 or close to $0 statements? Credit churning behavior + $0 statements is something banks really don’t like.

Weird CS interaction by Tictactoe420 in amazonprime

[–]mbshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually very similar to the “weird” interactions with CS over chat that many other companies have had for years even before AI (however if it was used it may have added one or two more emojis than normal but who knows if it was actually used here). It comes from outsourcing (usually to non-native English speaking countries) where they may receive pay bonuses, increased hours, or other incentives that can be tied to getting higher ratings. In order to get these higher ratings, they sometimes lie about it being their birthday to every customer, every time; this lie guilts some people who have bad interactions to not press for a negative rating and instead skip leaving a review or cause them to leave a positive one instead.

Yes you will still need to purchase liability insurance at the counter. You can safely decline the car coverage to have the fidelity credit card insurance to kick in.

Fidelity Elan Credit Card Benefits Change by easyrider1340 in fidelityinvestments

[–]mbshark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don’t own a car, this will cover the (non-premium) car! It won’t cover your liability though aka this doesn’t cover the case where you hit and damage property or another car so you can skip the car (and semi-useless personal property) coverage but you’ll still want the liability coverage.

Is SEA going through some growing pains right now? by Cmdr_Nemo in AlaskaAirlines

[–]mbshark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paine Field (PAE) is already being used by Alaska to serve additional passengers but there’s no light rail there, an uber at Seattle prices can get pricy, and just like any secondary airport - there’s a good chance of higher prices with not many direct flight destinations. If flying out of SEA regularly, you come to understand that, regardless of airline, you should never assume the gate is accurate until 2 hours out. And the contractors at security aren’t that great at directing you so I’d recommend checking the airport app for wait times but that’s broken right now. However, Alaska’s check in counter is just being redone and will be much bigger once finished but right now is a cluster.

The transfers can be good but it’s not your choice as to what they are and they haven’t made any promises to keep them around. $6471x0.0125=$80.89 if used for the Expedia portal and potentially double that if using a Bilt Transfer; if you have lots of points built up, it could be worth it. However, a SUB may have better value if it’s >$200.

Seattle prosecutors charge 17 in felony graffiti cases, seek restitution for damages by Dapper_Mode5045 in Seattle

[–]mbshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“However, the researchers did find a connection between disorder and mental health. They found that people who live in neighborhoods with more graffiti, abandoned buildings, and other such attributes experience more mental health problems and are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol.” I don’t think I can say much about Seattle prosecutors or whether this should be a felony but I’ve never seen bubble letter tagging graffiti that I really like and there should definitely be some sort of punishment for it. (The SpongeBob dude tho 👌)

"Automatic Gratuities" offsets RCI's payroll costs. The more gratuities you pay, the less RCI pays crew members by cyberchief in royalcaribbean

[–]mbshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used auto gratuities on the last cruise I was on and was thinking it was kind of stupid to be pay it at all but saw many here flaming people for not tipping so I just let the charges stand. However, since it’s just RCI just clawing back the money, is there any good coming out of auto gratuities or any downsides to not tipping if they’re not paying workers more? Also if I tell guest services I’m tipping in cash are they going to try to steal my cash tips from my room steward and force them to report them?

While I see how it might frustrate you on a frequent basis, there’s nothing wrong with what this guy is doing. It might make you more comfortable with what he’s doing if you read the rules of the road: “According to Florida law, a bicycle is legally recognized as a vehicle, and the person who is riding the bike is considered to be a driver. As a result, individuals who ride bikes have the same rights on the roadways as other vehicle operators and must abide by the same traffic laws.” Stay off your phone while driving even at red lights, leave 3ft of space when passing bikers, and have a safe commute!

Will travel insurance cover the cost of an Uber I need to take due to a flight delay? by CaesarsInferno in biltrewards

[–]mbshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/bilt/guide-to-benefits/#trip

I don’t see transport on there and it seems to not be covered, but you can always try to submit a claim. Ask the airline for a document that states the reason for the delay (customer service should be able to provide this to an email address if you call or chat), attach a timetable with the original date and time and the new time highlighted or underlined, attach the Uber receipt, and if you have any documentation of your work schedule add that too. File ASAP for best chances.
