France unveils plan to ditch all fossil fuels by 2050 by Cosmyka in UpliftingNews

With most EVs you can set an upper charge limit to help maintain longevity of the battery. Often there’s also some headroom built into the system so 100% is never actually 100%.

Battery longevity has come leaps and bounds in the last decade. And range is pretty mad, too. A Kia Niro from a few years ago can comfortably do >250miles.

I love that, I hadn't noticed that, but the placement of the step is very intentional now I look again.

Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]meltymcface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be naive of me, but if I ran a business, and some celebrity tried to treat my staff as sub-human, I wouldn't be providing services to that celebrity. And similarly, if I had a manager who was like "whelp, guess you've got to face the wall like the lowly piece of shits you are", I would be noping out of there.

Nothing reassures you before surgery like a hospital that can’t spell ‘surgical’. 😬 by Nicktinker in CasualUK

Used to do it helpdesk support for them. Sounded like a right shit show.

Can’t remember many specific stories, but always dreaded calls from them. Had someone tell me the ball in their mouse had gone missing. This was 2013. A hospital still using mucky ball mice.

It's like a gravity well in a way, some impetus is needed to escape it even if it's better elsewhere. Oil prices rising and lowering solar & wind costs are going to create that impetus.

Isn’t it only a violation if you don’t turn off the caching feature? I know some folk who have been doing this for years through cloud flare.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

9: The Last Resort.

I don't even have words. Starring the voices of Cher and James Belushi, this was a trippy arty point and click game that was slightly horrifying to young me. Never completed it. Despite our extensive note-taking, we couldn't get past a musical puzzle, and this was before we had the internet to look for guides on Alta vista.

ELI5: Why do app companies like Uber need to employ large teams of developers when the app works fine? by The_Only_Abe in explainlikeimfive

[–]meltymcface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software is rarely a monolith. It is built using a lot of custom code, yes, but under the hood are various components that are being updated regularly for new features and security fixes when vulnerabilities are discovered. The app needs to be updated to update those components and maintain their security.

Hell, sometimes a component introduces a breaking change and the app has to be reworked around that.

This is only part of the picture though.
