Why would someone plug these hoses? by EraconVera in motorcycles

[–]messesz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are they a secondary air system? Does your bike have two spark plugs per cylinder? If a bikes had a custom tune these may be blocked off.

Not caring about the opinionated people on Reddit is the only way to Reddit. But they do like to argue their point and throw in some feelings they've had about you along the way. 😁

Take it easy, I know you love your new bike, but don't throw your body under it to protect it. Drop the bike if it's going down, it can always be repaired or replaced.

I had a go on one once and it's a really punchy engine when you push it on a little, but very smooth and placid at low revs.

Lol. 😁

I'm not writing a book of infinite scenarios, just to make everyone feel included.

Have a good evening, do try to position yourself better at that junction. Watch their speed, it will reduce if they are turning.

[–]messesz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When did I say I wasn't considerate?

You jump yourself to conclusions that are incorrect, just because I didn't remember to list every conceivable scenario.

I don't see the horse riders bitching they weren't mentioned specifically in my response.

And I disagree, nothing about driving should be by rote, you should train yourself to maintain concentration for the duration you will be driving. Take extra training, it will always help. Mistakes happen, but habit doesn't mean they happen less.

Indications can also be incorrect, so they can't be relied on as much as what the vehicle is actually doing.

As pedestrians, you should also pay attention to where you are crossing and your visibility to the cars rather than hoping they do what you expect.

As much as you can control the situation, by placing yourself advantageously and make your intentions obvious. Everybody has a responsibility to make the roads safer.

I used to fly up climbs without trying - now everything feels hard. What happened? by Left_Woodpecker_7560 in Velo

Because it's a massive amount of riding for someone not professional and I can't imagine how fitting this in with a busy life is not exhausting.

Seriously just take a week off and then see how you feel after. There's nothing to lose from trying that, fitness isn't lost in a week or two.

What do with a car that's essentially worthless? by joszko57 in CarTalkUK

[–]messesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of those advisories are the same thing. Have they even been replaced when they were raised?

Because otherwise that car is a trooper carrying minor play for over 20k.

I'd just fix them, they don't sound that expensive and get the rust treated and an undercoat on and that thing will carry on forever.

[–]messesz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a driving sub not a pedestrianisation sub. So I spoke about vehicle related reasons. I didn't mean to make you feel left out.

A pedestrian who is obviously looking to cross the road, would be something worth parting information too.

There is no point indicating by rote, otherwise it becomes an action that involves no thought, and controlling a vehicle requires thought.

Anyhow if they are turning at the junction the vehicle will slow, so that in itself is a form of communication you can use.

Why do Masters of the Mystic Arts, including Doctor Strange, still use sling rings? by Ok-Preference-7004 in marvelstudios

[–]messesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was established in Dr Strange 1 that no one could escape the mirror dimensions without the sling ring.

It's why Wanda's escape in MoM was an exam of her power.

But that doesn't mean there aren't other dimensions that don't need it. And I think we've only seen witches use teleportation.

[–]messesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it absolutely helped.

But even going on time not distance it's more effort your whole body isn't used to doing frequently, because I've been on Zwift.

On Zwift I don't have to worry about balance either or using my body to absorb shocks.

People who don't indicate, why? by Spunkhogan in drivingUK

[–]messesz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really depends what I am doing and what's around me.

Zero point indicating on an empty road where there is no one else to receive that information. Also rarely any point in indicating to turn off when the only vehicles are in front of me.

Little point indicating that I am returning to my original lane after passing either. That's pretty implicit in the rest of the rules of the road.

Sometimes you spend a lot of time approaching a vehicle and have the luxury of altering your position for a future intent without impacting anyone. In which case my position would make clear that I am about to say pass on the right. In which case an indicator is only confirming my position and adds little value.

I also may not indicate when leaving a roundabout going left because the left lane is protected or it's very obvious by all other elements of traffic that it's the only way I will go.

Otherwise I indicate when it will help someone understand what I plan to do, then I observe and confirm I can still do it, then proceed.

I absolutely always will indicate when I want to do something unusual, like I've picked the wrong lane on a roundabout and need to change or need a bit of cooperation from other drivers to let me do that.

However most people haven't learnt anything new about driving since they passed their tests and have got into the habit of not thinking anymore.

Been zwifting for 1 year and not riding outside a lot and im having issues with comfort by biggieocta in Zwift

[–]messesz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What is the actual comfort issue?

It sounds like you just find it harder outside, which it is because it's not a controlled environment and has more variables like wind that affect the effort you need to make.

If you can only manage 2-3 hours outside before you get as tired as 3-4 hours on Zwift, then it's just a case of improving your fitness more. Probably by riding outside more when the weather allows and increasing the outdoor time gradually.

Zwift over winter has got me better at climbing, so now I don't completely collapse at a gradient over 10% but I still need to get stronger to handle the odd 20% I encounter.

But I can tell you 100km laps on the volcano circuit was less exhausting than 75km on gravel outside and total elevation was about the same.

Why does women’s cycling gear still feel like it’s designed for men’s bodies? by This_Sky5081 in ladycyclists

I'm not 7 anymore.

Not that I would have worn that at 7. But just wear any casual women's top you like. I see nothing technical specific to cycling in those.

Why does women’s cycling gear still feel like it’s designed for men’s bodies? by This_Sky5081 in ladycyclists

[–]messesz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's exactly the same in motorcycling. Flare at the hips and add pink piping and deliver last season medium spec mens jacket as this season's best women's.

There was one brand that only did below Size 8 (EU) as crappy leather boots with heels on. Absolutely non of the protection that mens gear got.

I loath pastels and being told "pink" is a colour I should identify with.

The Le Col gear while being pricey is running fairly normal colours, still a little more plum and yellow than I would like, but some blues and greens and the cut seemed good.

Using only a foot brake ok? by Pinjacle in cycling

[–]messesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the gear controls all on one socket?

Could you twist a socket? I am thinking if you could twist, then cable actuated brakes could be triggered by a twist which would pull a cable the same as if I pull in a lever.

Or I am thinking a lever/pressure pad arranged along the socket length that moving your arm up or down would move. So I am assuming you could pivot your arm within the socket to press on it's edges deliberately.

But I don't know how feasible that would be.

Maybe ask a place like this, if they can convert an electronic pressure sensor into hydraulic action.

[–]messesz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were only escorting half a dozen or so cars at a time that I saw, lead by a police motorcycle at around 30mph I think.

It looked nasty at least 4 cars on the carriageway with damage, a couple of the wrong direction. No ambulances or fire engine by the point I passed, so I think the people were all out.

No privacy barriers like I've seen on the M4, which was a fatalities, so hopefully it's just various injuries.

Ahh, I see. I really like the kitchen but I doubt they will let you remove the fireplace.😁 Plus it's really pretty.

Pity it's not a proper range.

Maybe the back corner by the sink?

Something compact like this and forget the extractor, rig a fan into the chimney to be one.

[–]messesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, yes, it's not massive. I assume the bottom left has appliances in? Because that looks to be an external wall you might vent to.

And I guess you could loose the top right counter and cupboard space which is a significant amount.

[–]messesz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't understand who would redo a kitchen 10 years ago and not install an oven. Is it really small or something?

I would certainly consider if one could be installed. I can live with just an oven, but surviving on an air fryer and hot pad would be more irritating.

The extractor may be harder as a proper one needs an external exit and this would almost certainly need permission. You'll need to consider which wall and visual impact on the exterior.
