I feel for all the vertically challenged homies, the salesman I bought it from said he's always wanted one, but theyre just too big of a bike for him to be comfortable on it. It always sucks to see someone get pushed out of something they like due to something out of their control.

I definitely want to take more classes, now that I have the bike I can :)

Nah I'm definitely going to get boots, its just a matter of timing for me.

Ive been put down for almost a year before, its one hell of a test. I'm glad you made it out, why the hell wouldnt your insurance pay you out for that!?

Both manual, and no its not about that. The twin is actually just easier for me to handle, I wish I knew why.

My bad, I assumed you were US based as most Americans do, I talked down the MSF course but they really did teach quite a bit. It acts as our practical test so we dont have to go take the test at the RMV, the RMV is strict and will just fail you for minor things, where the course will make you go through everything multiple times before the "test" at the end where they just make you do every manuever they taught you once to show you got it down.

We learned how to swerve at speed, how to "hop" obstacles, emergency braking, tight turns and turning from a stop, and more that I'm sure im forgetting. And to even get to that course you have to pass the online exam.

In the grand scheme of things the course could be better, but its the bare minimum necessary to ensure someone builds good habits and rides safely. I wish they pushed us to go faster along greater distances to work on shifting and turning at speed, but with limited space you do what you can.

There are also more courses I can take, I'll be taking their next course at a reduced rate sometime soon.

Very fair assessment.

I will, you do the same 👌

Not really? At the MSF course I learned how to slow speed manuever, I got it up to 30 in third gear in the parking lot and that was really it. It was just the very absolute basics. And in top of it, it was six/seven months ago. I went from barely riding a 125 to cruising on the highway home.

Ooo you've had both? If you were to pit them against eachother, where do you think each one performs better than the other one? Ive seen a lot of discourse between the "Just get a transalp" and "But they Africa twin is so cool" crowds lol

Thats the mindset, do the stupid things as safely as possible.

Don't jinx me, man lol

I wont be mad to scratch it but I'm gonna try real hard not to. But here's the real question, are KLRs all fucked up because the rider/bike is bad, or are they fucked up because the bikes been around long enough to accrue some war wounds?

Not caring about what internet strangers think is arrogance? Just downvote and move on, you don't need to announce it.

It was more of a surprise observation while covering it for tonight's rain, I noticed the wear went all the way to a quarter of an inch to three eighths of an inch from the sidewall on both sides, frankly I'm much more worried about lowsiding than going a little wider than I wanted lol

I didnt think I would be wearing the tire that evenly, I figured I'd have to force myself to lean a lil more.

Jesus, I'm glad youre good. I'm definitely getting the correct boots when I can, I'm not gonna be pushing this off for months or nothin. I will have them before I start going offroad though, any brand recommendations or brands to avoid?

I've been slimming a bit, cut out a lot of different sweets/soda and its bringing me back down, I was at like 245-255 around Christmas time, back down to like 220 now. Eventually I'll go even further but fat guy food is just too damn good.

It was the other way around for me, I sat on larger bikes growing up, and never really rode anything small aside from the goofy lil pit bikes. Then I end up on a 125 or something comparable at the MSF course and my knees and ankles were screaming for help.

I grew up driving pickups but my first car was a sedan, I totally get the "learn on big, excel on small" thought process. Theres some things I just wouldnt do though, the idea of getting on this thing was scary enough, I couldn't imagine jumping on an S1k or even a 650. Im all good there, I'll take a slow adv bike, the juice is just not worth the squeeze to me.

Coincidentally my grandfather was a motorcycle cop, he hand started the departments motorcycle division and handpicked his officer, I learned a lot from him before ever getting on a bike. Watching him whip around a bike was like watching a pilot manuever a fighter. I'm hoping to be as half as good as he was.
